View Full Version : Was I scaped ??? [spoilers for series through PKW]

It’s been two days since I finished watching Farscape for the first time !!! Even now it’s hard for me to describe what I’m feeling and what I’ve went through for the past 48 hours.

My heart feels like being broken, my chest is filled with pain and every time I hear in my mind “Moya no more!” my eyes get teary.

I felt puzzled and ashamed of what I was feeling. I’m 28. A grown man. I have a life and responsibilities. It’s just not normal to feel this way about a TV show. Not at this age. I felt like going nuts. I went on the internet to look for answers. And there it was. A world of “my people”. How could I have lived so long without knowing about them ?

I heard about Farscape about 3 years ago when I got in a dispute with a few friends. They were going mad for the show being cancelled because of SG1. I liked SG1, but normally maybe I should have been curios about this show that caused such emotions in them. I wasn’t. Their aggressive tone pushed me back from the idea of wanting to watch “Farscape”. That was until about 2 weeks ago. I already had the show for about a month, but I still wasn’t sure if I wanted to give it a go. One night I said to myself “What a hell? Nothing else to do anyway! Let’s see…” And that was that. I got frelled.

For ten days I was like a zombie. Watching 8-9 episodes per day and night. During the day I had to talk to people. I had to do my job. But I was looking through them. Nothing made sense anymore. I just wanted to get back and watch one more episode.

Now… I just feel empty and sad. I can’t taste anything. I’m still digging the internet. “Why???”. I had to crunch the numbers myself . Ratings, money, profit. I don’t understand. I read tons of reviews and critiques. I read about all the effort you guys put for making PKW become reality (for which I thank all of you from the bottom of my heart), but I still don’t get it. I’m sure this is nothing new for you. Just another lunatic, but for me…

DK’s words “We didn’t do anything wrong!” still echo in my mind.

And then… a thought. Over and over again. “Could it….? Would it…? Nah… But what if… ?”

But still I have to give voice to my thought. If not here, where ? Nothing new. Same thought I’m sure you all had : Would it… be possible for Farscape to return ?

I know that there are tons of arguments against the idea. After all D’argo is dead and Crichton and Aeryn lived happily ever after. I know it was a 5 seasons project novel and PKW kindda ended it, but what if ??? The writers are great. If there’s a will, there’s a way. After all :

- We never see D’argo actually dying, just killing some of the bad guys. Add the fact that Medic was there and we never see him getting rescued… and there you have D’argo alive and well.
- I know this may be radical, but… you can always sacrifice the baby causing both Crichton and Aeryn a nervous breakdown and yet again a break in their relationship.
- Add the fact that “DA BAD GUYS” don’t know that Crichton doesn’t posses the knowledge for the weapon anymore and you get a “Most wanted kindda guy” back again.
- We know best that peace treaties are meant to be broken therefore…

And there you have all the arches back into the show, without even using so far fetched ideas like “putting back Aeryn and Crichton for PKW”

Looking at the most important aspect now, the one the was supposed to be responsible for killing the show, the economical one, all the pieces seem to fit.

- SG1 goes for season 10 and as one who likes the show I’m ready to bet it’s gonna be the last one, even though it should have ended with season 8. So Ben and Claudia would be ready for Farscape.
- As many of the Farscape fans migrated to SG1 because of BB and CB, be sure the phenomenon will happen the other way around too.
- 7 million viewers for PKW ???? Where did they come from ? We all know that PKW was not a movie to be seen and/or understood by those who didn’t see the series. Therefore they must be scapers. Let’s say not 6.6 rating, but 3.0 and still it’s a very strong reason to get it back. And by the way. Let’s not forget we’re talking about franchise, right ? So we’re not talking only about the Nielsen Rating (which by the way sucks), but we’re talking about much more. Farscape has toured the world (by the way I’m writing you from Romania). Broadcasting rights will have another price now.
- Production costs. Well…. I can’t be very sure here, because I have no idea, but I think it’s just common sense to ask yourself this question : “Is it cheaper in 2007 let’s say, to create a Sci-Fi episode than it was in 1998 ?”. I’m not thinking only about computers and CGI, but about all the technologies involved in the show. They all got better and cheaper as time passed.
- Maybe the strongest reason of them all is “THE FREE PUBLICITY AND GREAT REVIEWS”. Only by looking at the reviews and WHO wrote them, you’d have to be crazy not take advantage of them. Add here a few hundred thousand of volunteers for free advertising and… one can only ask from a producer point of view “What more could you ask ?”
- Targeted audience. Let’s just say that the target audience for “Farscape” is “people with wallets”. And when I’m talking about “people with wallets”, I’m thinking about demographics. 21-34 is the best target advertisers want to hit. People which make money and still have the will to spend them.

Anyway. I’m sure all the things above have been said already many times. This was just a glimpse of what went through my mind in the past 48 hours.

As far as I’m concerned, I will try to advertise Farscape as much as I can in my country and start praying SG1’s 10th season will be announced as the last one. I will then begin to hope.

So tell me dear friends, was I scaped ?

Romania salutes you.

I think it's pretty safe to say yes, you've been Scaped.

Welcome to the insanity.

Unfortanely, the ratings for PKW were much lower. But everyone here is still hoping for some new Farscape project. All we can do is try to promote the series ourselves, especially DVD sales.

Yup!
It might help to know we've all felt exactly the same way. I love to read of experiences like yours because it takes me back to the time I was feeling all those things. Staying up half the night watching it. Aaah! How lucky you are.
As for being a grown man of 28, I am a grown woman of 54! You should worry!:D

Yes, it's true. You have been totally and completely scaped. The good news is, it's permanent. The bad news is, it's permanent. But at least you've come to the right place.

And that "I'm an adult with responsibilities" thing? Forget it -- like Somniac said, there's plenty of us who are plenty older than you. And don't worry, you'll get over being ashamed very soon.

Don't give up on the idea of more Farscape. DK hasn't. Brian Henson hasn't. And if we keep agitating for it and keeping the buzz going, it can only help. So pick your head up and walk tall! Be proud of your scaperhood! Every new scaper brings us that much closer to more Farscape.

First of all lemme thank oyu for the warm welcomeFirst of all let me thank you all for the warm welcome. Then let me apologize for the double posting. I didn’t know it was a waiting period for registration and … opps I posted again thinking I did something wrong the first time. So if a moderator would be so kind to move the replies from the other thread here, it would be great. The other thread is here : http://www.watchfarscape.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36731

I posted some questions there. If you could enlighten me a little I’d be more than grateful.

For the moment I’m watching again and again “Won’t get fooled again”. Man, Harvey and Pilot playing the band really blow my mind off.

Yay! :D TaseMagu, you're among friends. Everybody's right, we all know how you feel. Regarding Farscape's demographic, I am constantly amazed at how diverse we are. There are plenty who are grandma aged, and there are people who are barely teeneagers. (I'm 23) The appeal of the show is wide indeed. ;)

After reading everything you said about watching farscape for the first time I felt the same way.I couldn't wait to get home from work to watch more episodes.I watched like four episodes everyday on the weekend.Nothing else mattered.I went on vacation in the middle of the viewing of the first season . I was bothered by the fact that I wasn't going to see more episodes for a week.I was even considering bringing some of the dvds with me.I never, ever felt like that towards any tv show.I felt weird.
I bought all the box sets once I got into season 2 . When I was done it was a month before the airing of the PK wars.I was a late bloomer so I wasn't tortured(waiting after the cancellation) like alot of the fans who were there from the beginning.
Now I only watch Sg1 because of ben browder and claudia but it just isn't the same and i'm not a SG fan so it's hard.Ben is barely a character and he doesn't get to be more on that show.I only hope for more farscape.....

I did it the other way around. I'm 55 and I scaped my then-18 and 15 year old sons. We're just one big happy scaper family. Or, I would be happy if my older son hadn't taken my PK Wars DVDs back to China with him, where he lives now. Guess I'll have to buy myself another set.

Yeah, you've been Scaped, big time! Welcome to the everlasting insanity this show has thrust upon all of us!

I admire your passion, and I confirm your feelings. It makes you kind of crazy the first time around, getting so hooked into this wild ride of a TV show. Even after seeing some episodes over and over and over, the emotions are still there.

By the way, if demographics matter (which they don't, to me), I'm a 48 year old man with three kids and three, soon to be four, grandkids. A normally rational, relatively sedate human being with a career. Doesn't make a bit of difference. I'm as hooked as can be!
