As some of you may know – I’ve been Scapeing a few friends since November. I’ve kept you guys up to date on the thrills and chills and the fun we’ve had watching Farscape. This past Friday we watched the two-parter “Into The Lion’s Den,” which I’ve been waiting a long time for…

I kept my eye on the Newbies when Crais and Talyn sacrificed themselves. When Crais says “Talyn… Starburst!” The Newbie’s eyes welled up and there was no way they could hide it. Guys and girls alike. All were a bunch of blubbering babies. One of them, behind the flowing tears, blubbered something about how Talyn was such a cool little ship.
I love watching this show! I love watching others watch this show! It tickles me to no end watching this show push people’s buttons. I love watching the Newbies react to it in spite of themselves. And I love the fact that even the guys can’t help but turn to teary eyed messes!!!
Next time I have to remember the tissue.

Sounds like you get as much pleasure out of watching them cry as you do from introducing them to the show. Hey, this is not some kind of cruel torture, is it? Make them watch the sad eps over and over again? I can just imagine your glee when Talyn John dies! That was the one that did me in. I can't even watch it any more.

It never ceases to amaze me that women invariably want men to be ok with showing that they have a heart and that they have compassion and tenderness THEN have some "numb@#$$%&*%(#*@#^" member of the Bloody B**t Club find JOY in someone else's painful emotions...
No wonder men try to hide these things most of their lives.
Thank you for confirming your uselessness! I sincerely hope not all the women of this board feel this way.
Yes, I cried at many points during this show.
Hide from MY emotions?
I'm DRIVEN by them.
If it weren't for PASSION, this existence would be pointless.

I don't think she meant it that way. Showing emotions is a sure sign for being completely absorbed into a show, and that I would love too as introducer, especially in a scene where a ship dies. I wonder who of them woud have thought before of crying over the death of an ordinary ship.

Okay -- first of all, the reason I love watching they're reaction is that it shows me that the show pushing their buttons. Instead of just passively watching some TV show, they are actively getting into it. They are having a wild ride on the emotional roller coaster known as Farscape and they are relishing every second of it. Watching them cry shows me that they are more concerned with the story than they are about saving face.
Secondly – I’M A GUY!!!!
Why is it folks here think I’m a chick? No where have I said I was a chick so why do folks assume it? My handle is Nebarinookiee (that’s with 2 E’s) cause it was Chiana that grabbed my interest enough to give the show a chance... and I’d do it all for that nookie!
Anyhoo… I’ll keep you guys posted as to the madness of my Farscape Fridays!

It IS your forum name AND the avatar combined.

Say what you will; my only reply would be:
evil Newbie Update... blubbering babies... tickles me to no end watching this show push people’s buttons... behind the flowing tears, blubbered
these seem like phrases geared more toward sadistic cynicism and spite (especially when coupled with "evil" in the title of the thread) instead of genuine joy at the power of FarScape. Backpeddle if you wish... aside from thinking you were an evil woman, I have zero regret with regard to my first reply in this thread.

I don’t think we’ve been introduced…. you are???
I freely admit it – I take sadistic pleasure in watching the Newbies react like that – cause for so long many of my friends all thought I was nuts cause I seemed obsessed over this show. Now they understand it wasn’t obsession, it was frustration – frustration that it seemed like I was the only person I knew who knew this show and liked it and no one I knew would give it a chance. They seemed too involved with shows like Survivor, Trading Spouses and Desperate Housewives – shows that required no real attention to be paid in order to enjoy. And now, after only watching 3 seasons, they finally “get it.” They understand now that it wasn’t me – it was the show, and they are now like junkies jonezing for a fix. I take sadistic pleasure because it’s my way of quietly saying “I told you so” – so whenever one of them, guy or girl – it doesn’t matter, emotionally reacts to the show with tears or whatever, I know that they couldn’t get this much satisfaction from Survivor. It’s like a filmmaker watching an audience’s reaction to the screen. They know they did a good job when the tears flow at the appropriate times. I know I have introduced my friends to something special that I’ve wanted to share with them for a long time. I know that the last few years I’ve spent trying to get them to watch wasn’t for nothing. Sadistic or not, it is genuine joy I feel watching my friends react to the show the same way I did.
“Say what you will…” Gimme a break, dude. We’re all Scapers here.

i am going to have to say that when my girl friend laughed at me for my obession with this show i was pissed, but when I got her to watch about 15 eps and then PKW she cried when D'argo died and I LOVED IT. I mean the first time I watched it I held back the swelling of tear, but to see someone react the same way you did means you succeded in scaping them, I agree that that Sadistic feeling of happiness comes more from the fact you have got them to be emotionally involved in something you love and less from a Nelson "HAHA" you cried.

DON'T FEAR YOUR BUTTONS
Nebari,
(Can't call you "Nookiee" man, it's just not right... calling a man "nookiee") :dunno:
You have plenty of friends here who've stood to defend you. Given that you've been around nearly since the inception of this site, that's to be expected and understood. I wasn't raised like most men who are taught that hiding their emotions is the true path to being a man. Quite oppositely, I was taught to be in touch with passions and be compassionate; tender when necessary and a go-getter when pressed; a defender of those who would otherwise be a doormat for any errant (sp?) foot to wipe. Your words (whether right or wrong) left me feeling (whether right or wrong) as though you had bullied your "Newbies"... not for THIS reason:
They seemed too involved with shows like Survivor, Trading Spouses and Desperate Housewives – shows that required no real attention to be paid in order to enjoy. And now, after only watching 3 seasons, they finally “get it.”
but for THIS reason:
sadistic pleasure
NOW!!!
They understand now that it wasn’t me – it was the show.... my way of quietly saying “I told you so” – so whenever one of them, guy or girl – it doesn’t matter, emotionally reacts to the show with tears or whatever, I know that they couldn’t get this much satisfaction from Survivor.
Vindication..... THAT I understand!
But Sadistic pleasure?
Sadistic... Sadism... derived from The Marquis DeSade... involves inflicting pain for sexual or emotional satisfaction... THAT (in my opinion) is offensive and :loco: so I jumped here: :box:
and now we've managed to get the board talking about some "crazy new-guy whacko and how he's railing against a regular."
I'm havin' a BLAST

We are all sadist here....and masochistes......and...
Ya know, I don't think he had them tied up with leather straps. I read it in the same way that I would read about Josh Weadon getting sadistic pleasure from frelling with our heads with Firefly, or Rockne doing the same with Farscape. Its just, ya know....one of them words that convey how much enjoyment we get from seeing an, any emotional reaction to something we already know we love.

I’ve always found it interesting that folks like to nit-pick apart posts for whatever reason they can find. I may not have posted as much as some of the long time members, but I’m here, always lurking and watching and reading posts that interest me. Unfortunately I’ve noticed that sarcasm doesn’t translate well in text form and it either comes off as cynical, spiteful or condescending. I’m fully aware of this problem, having seen many flame wars on other boards start over just such a thing, but I have no intention of changing the way I post or how my posts are perceived. Obviously scorponaleash hasn’t read some of my other posts or he would have seen that I’ve always been a bit of a sarcastic fellow (or prick, depending on who you ask… anyone remember phiser?)– even in regards to the recent Scapeing events (I.E.— the whole “Never watch again” episode). I enjoy reporting the stories of my friends’ newfound fascination with Farscape – and if I can interject a little spice in my storytelling I freely will.
Nuttin' but love for ya! :smash:

It's what we do... this is one of MY passions... because it's FarScape! and for no other reason (aside from) the person that is me... happening along and seeing the person that is you posting what was ... and in the energy of the alignment of THAT moment... BAM!!!; after that, it's spiritual balance that enjoys watching graceful ripples among a pond of infinitity.
