Now its time for the another installment of the Newbie Chronicles – following the adventures of a group of newly converted Scapers on their first trek through the Uncharted Territories! (See – I can’t help myself – I have to spice it up!)
Farscape Friday usually goes off without a hitch – notice, I said “usually.” The most that goes wrong is someone is running late so we start later than we’d like, but it’s never anything that totally prevents us from Scapeing. Well, our luck ran out Friday. The last few times we’ve Scaped, we’ve done it at the house of the first Scaper I converted. He’s been a Scaper since the first run of Season 3. We’ve decided to Scape at his place due to the fact he has a brand new 42 inch HD TV. Friday came around and I grab the DVDs and head for his place. After arriving I realize that someone had been messing around with my DVDs and didn’t put them back in order. I had grabbed the wrong set. I know it wasn’t me. I’m OCD enough that my DVD library is in a specific order. Needless to say, we didn’t Scape Friday. We really didn’t mind. One of the regular Newbies couldn’t make it that night. So we spent Friday watching second season of Chappelle Show. We still had Saturday anyway.
Saturday rolled around and everyone met at my place for the big event. The episodes we were to watch were the season 3 finale and the season 4 opener. I don’t let the group in on what episodes we’re watching unless it’s a multi-part episode. So I hadn’t told them that it was the finale. Giggles and tears were a-plenty, of course. But the moment came – the tag plays, camera pulls back and the phrase “To Be Continued” flashed across the screen. For a moment, the group sat in stunned silence. Then one turns to me and said, “Wait a minute! That was the season finale, wasn’t it?” At that point the whole group jumped up screaming “WOW! Frelling WOW!!!” (Yes, the group now uses Farscape slang in everyday conversation) They actually broke into some kind of strange Hynerian happy dance, all of them singing “Farscape rules! Farscape rules!” I’d never seen anything like it.
Now we’re in the home stretch. We’ve officially entered Season 4 and the roller coaster ain’t ready to slow down yet! At this point I can’t help but pat myself on the back for being a persistent nut and turning them on to the insanity that is Farscape. One of the Newbies said her boyfriend sees how much she digs Farscape and said he’ll buy the complete DVD sets for her birthday. Now THAT’S love, baby! Especially since him and I have this friendly animosity towards each other’s choice of programming. See – he’s a die-hard Stargate fan and is constantly ribbing me about Farscape. In fact, he’s the reason I had a hard time Scapeing his girlfriend. And she’s has so much love for Farscape that now’s he is willing to give the show a chance! Score one for the Scapers!
This Friday we’ll be enjoying the “What Was Lost” two-parter.
