View Full Version : Canadian effort

Alright kiddies, this Canadian is tired of feeling like her hands are tied and ready to do something.
First I want to ask if there is already a Canadian operation underway... because if there is I don't want to step on any toes or attempt to duplicate what has already been done.
That said, my idea is that we hit Space/CHUM to get them to cover the frenzy that we know will be taking place down in the US in January when the rest of you guys are doing your thing. As a smaller (relative) audience, I think the most we can do to apply pressure to the people in power is alert the locals here to the wider movement down there.
Plus, because of Space's schedule, if we launch our media attack January to coincide with the US effort, we will be directing interested people to the series during the final episodes of Season 3 on Space--Season 4 begins in February here. Haven't seen the end of Season 3 yet, but my understanding is that it's some pretty good stuff.
So anyways... if someone could direct me to the Canadian flagship or if there isn't one yet and you'd like to sign on as crew... please let me know.

I e-mailed the staff yesterday to ask if there was a Canadian coordinator (and failing that, did they want one?) but haven't heard back yet (need to check other e-mail.)
I've been working one some stuff for Toronto and there was a thread here a couple of days back from some Vancouver guys.
You can always join the FarscapeCanada list on Yahoogroups. I know there are a couple of Westies on the list who are looking to do something...
It maybe time to start a SaveFarscapeCanada list or something to get a little more coordination underway (as I don't have a website and html programming and I would not be a happy combination.)

Well I do have the web skills and the resources (over 100Meg of webspace across the two domains I already own) so if SaveFarscape Canada needs an HQ I would be more than happy to do what I can to offer that.
Again, my concern is to not duplicate any effort that is already underway. The only way we succeed is if we can keep things centralized.
Thanks for the suggestion of the YahooFarscape group though. I just posted a similar message on the Space Channel so hopefully if there is a movement I'll be able to find it... and if there isn't we can create one.

One of the producers of the Space Channel, very nice guy, posts on their boards quite a lot. He was asked a while ago if it would be possible for Farscape to be picked up and partially funded by Space and some other foreign networks. He said 'maybe'.
I think writing Space/CHUM Television (their parent company with all the bucks) is a good idea to show them that there is interest even in Canada for the show. They did fund Earth: Final Conflict and Lexx in the past as well.
I gotta join this FarscapeCanada mailing list as well.

I think contacting Space is a great idea. Don't underestimate how a big of a fanbase there is here in Canada. I have chatted with a lot of Canadian viewers. Not to mention Space has done, and continues to do thier part in advertising the show - short segments interviewing Virginia Hey, and they are still airing re-runs.

Hmm, this is interesting. I was just looking at the stats (http://farscape.noidea.us/fanscape/stats2.php) that this site has collected and Canada is the third largest group of Scapers behind the US (obviously) and the UK.
Even given the relatively small sampling just far, that's a pretty significant number.

If you want to write to Space:
Address it to one of:
Jim Shutsa, Director of Production
Isme Bennie, Director of Programming and Acquisitions
Paul Gratton, Vice President and General Manager
SPACE: The Imagination Station

Toronto, Ontario, Canada

email: space@spacecast.com
Remember that snail mail is more effective than email. I think this would be a great thing for Canadian Scapers to do since we don't really matter to SciFi. I'm writing my letter right now.

I've written to Paul Gratton already, thanking him for showing Farscape and mentioning how distraught I am that SciFi won't be producing any more episodes.
Anything we can do to be more visible is great.
Etana, if you want to talk Canadian SaveFarscape site drop me an e-mail--I'm helpless at html but I know my way around a word processor, so I can at least contribute to content.
Also, my fellow Toronto-rally planner (the one with net access at home--finally an excuse to call Sympatico, btw) should be posting Toronto rally info on the SaveFarscapeCentral.com Rally page tonight.
Basic details: Saturday, October 5 @ 2 pm at Speaker's Corner in downtown Toronto.
Our goal: raise Farscape awareness and thank SPACE for supporting us and the show.
And if anyone's interested in hanging out afterwards, I can see about arranging something.:D
If your interested in attending, PM me, e-mail me at crankygrrl@hotmail.com or sign up on the rally page (which, as I said, should be up tonight.)
Now, gotta go home and pass out. ;)

Excellent. I'm thinking I'll register savefarscapecanada.com sometime this week... or sometime today, I had to get repairs done on my wheelchair today so I've been in Save Farscape overdrive all day.
Unfortunately this is hitting me at a bad time as I have a major work deadline looming September 30th but after that my schedule is pretty much clear... so I'll probably be doing most of my actual site designing around then... which I suppose isn't too bad since it gives us some time to plan before I actually start coding.
I think, if you're in agreement, I'd like to keep discussion of the development of the site here so we can make people aware of its presence before it gets launched and get as many ideas as to how it should be used as possible. I also think that it's extremely important that we make sure that a Canadian site is fully integrated with the international effort and we also push people to this site (and savefarscapecentral) as much as possible. My thought is we would providing Canadians an option for a more home-based effort if they feel that is the best way they can take part.
My feeling is that, in addition to diving bombing UPN et. al. with letters, we in Canada should be pushing for a couple things:
1) Increased awareness of both and show itself and the campaign to save it. We actually have an advantage since Farscape is still on the air right now so we don't have to wait until January to make Canadians aware of it.
2) Hit Space with both thank you's for airing the show and the suggestion that they might want to consider adding their own financial support to the pot.
3) Hit the UPN affiliates within reach of Canada. Most of Canada lives along the American border so I'm betting that Vancouver isn't the only one that is getting UPN via cable. We need to find out which affiliates can reach across the border and make sure they're all covered.
Well, that's a couple thoughts so far... I'd be very interested hearing what other ideas are out there. Like I said I'm really stuck for time for the next week but after that I'd like to launch this thing almost immediately.

Great ideas.
If there's anyway I can help out with the site, let me know. I know some html, but I'm rather limited in that knowledge. Hitting the Seattle UPN affiliate is also a good idea. I'll be doing that tonight.
Anyhoo...I'm wondering if anyone has seen Farscape DVDs in a Canadian Blockbuster? I've never seen one. Now that may be because they're out all the time :D or they simply don't have them. If they don't have them, we have to start asking for them to get them. Future Shop only started selling the DVDs like a month ago.
For the first time in my life, I wish I was living in Toronto :lol :ewink: so that I could actually participate in the rally or something.

Etana - welcome!
Cranky - I forgot to mention the after-party idea when I put up the rally post on savefarscapecentral.com. Oops - I hope you can fix it, I'm hopeless at the thing. Saw typos as soon as I hit send!
Hegemon - good to see ya! Now get your butt onto the FarscapeCanada mailing list! ;)
I've never seen a Farscape DVD in Blockbuster but I know that Rogers Video sometimes carries them - that's how I saw my first Farscape eps! :D
A Savefarscapecanada website sounds like a great idea! We have some Canadian cons in mind that we can hit up, there will be rallies in Toronto and Alberta, we can write to Chum and Space, there are lots of things we can target/focus on to make Farscape a household name in Canada (and keep it that way for a season - or more - to come!)

Speaking of the Farscape Canada mailing list, I think rather than starting up some new forum beast for savefarscapecanada, we should just stick with what is already working. We'll link to this board as the international campaign HQ and the Yahoo one as our Canadian discussion forum. Transferring users to a new system is always a bear and I'd rather not lose momentum.
For the moment though I think we should keep discussion of the site itself here, just because we need to draw people in and this is where they'll be coming first. I put a note out on the Space channel forums, I should probably do the same on the Yahoo list.
Okay, so we're going to need a rally organization section with contact names and activities... links to our two community forums... media contacts of people that Canadians should be targeting (as well as directing people here for international campaign activities)... what else?
etana
09-24-2002, 12:17 AM
I was thinking that the Canadian effort should have a stamp of some kind... some logo that can be added to letters or flyers that identifies our movement as something unified as well. I think it's tempting for us--as well as for the people we're trying to contact--to think of Canadian Farscape fans as being insignificant as an audience and one of the most important message we need to send is that we are organized and we will be heard.
And lastly, I think what Kimrb said about knowing who are neighbour is is really important to identifying where the support is and how we should be organizing it. So in that spirit I hope everyone (including all you Canadian lurkers who are looking for a place to put your support) will add to the following list:

I think you pretty much covered what needs to be on the site. Though I wouldn't object to having a forum/BB on the site itself just to make suggestions and have quicker, more detailed discussions. Also, I think it would be good to add a brief summary/introduction to Farscape (up to S3, ep 3). So that we could point any new Scapers we convert or find to the site, but that we could also point potential new Scapers to find info about the show and get involved.
Anyways...

Well that can be done. If people don't mind shifting over I can setup a forum in a similar style to this one. I just always have this fear of new forums... it can be so hard to get the discussion ball rolling... although with a group like this maybe it's not an issue.
I like the idea of a Farscape primer though. Maybe in addition to that we can have a kind of virtual wall for people to "write" on--how they got into Farscape, what it means to them, why they are so determined to continue the fight, etc. I know on my animation site that the thing people come for most is the reviews because they're always honest and from the heart of regular people... I've had a lot of people drop by the site and be inspired by some review to watch this particularly obscure animated film--and absolutely love it.
Hrmm, in the meantime... UPN affiliates (http://www.asb.com/usr/indtvprd/nextwave/affiliat.htm)... woo, whole bunch of them.
We know that KSTW-TV Channel 11 (http://upn11.com) Seattle reaches Vancouver. Think we can figure out where else UPN is crossing the border?
Hegemon
09-24-2002, 12:53 AM
I would guess that the Detroit feed reaches Southern Ontario and perhaps Toronto but I've seen a lot of people from Toronto say they don't have UPN.
Definitely should do that - people saying why they love the show, what got them into it, etc. I know that I checked out Farscape because someone on a message board was raving about how much it meant to them. I wonder if we could get the Space Channel website to link to the SaveFarscapeCanada site.
etana

Wow, Space coverage... that would be pretty wild.
About UPN... there has to be a more efficient way of doing this than polling individuals on whether they get UPN or not... even if we limit our search to the border, that's a lot of ground to cover.
Oh... and while I'm in little miss researcher mode:
CHUM stations with Farscape:
-- Space (http://www.spacecast.com) (obviously)
-- The New VI (http://www.thenewvi.com) (Vancouver / Victoria)
-- The New RO (http://www.thenewro.com) (Ottawa and the National Capital Region)
geez, that's not as many as I thought there were... I suppose I figured there were more CHUM affiliates and more places like Vancouver that gets the double dosing of Farscape between Space and the local guy... although it makes our job a lot easier. It looks like we should just be focusing our push on Space since it's the only national provider of Farscape.

Just wanted to say count me in... I'm in Montreal and will help out any way I can (within the obvious limitations of the time/space continuum, anyway).
I can write, edit, proofread and do quality control for the site. I can also use Dreamweaver and Photoshop if what's required isn't too taxing.
ConCept (http://www.monsffa.com/concept2002.html) is coming up in November and Cranky and I are going to do something there (as soon as I get my act together and contact them, that is). Haven't written to Space yet, but will.

The domain name has been registered and will hopefully be working tomorrow. 'Course there's no real site attached to it yet, but I'm going to be bringing that along as fast as my fingers can code.
As we are relatively short-handed, I'm going to start offering things for people to do who have already volunteered to help. I'm hoping no one will get their hair in a twist over these task 'appointments' as I'm basically going to be suggesting tasks to people based on what interest and abilities that they've already shown... and even one person writes a piece that doesn't mean we can't have a hand at editing, or if I'm asking one person to gather some info for me that doesn't mean that you can't add to the pot. This isn't about ego--it can't be or we're going to be doomed from the get-go--and the only reason I'm barrelling along right now is because of the time factor. I want SaveFarscapeCanada functioning in *some form* before the October 5th global rally... but to do that is going to require a bit of manic organization.
And ya know, if I start sounding too bossy please hit me with a wet noodle or something... I don't really want to be the one to "lead" the Canadian effort--because wow, that's a scary thought... my priority right now is just to get this site up so we can start providing some tools of assault to frustrated Canadian 'scapers.

I just want to say thanks to etana for getting the ball rolling and for what I anticipate will be a great website.
And yes, please boss me around as well. I volunteer myself to do whatever you need me to do. I'm a student and God knows, I can always put homework off until tomorrow, so I have plenty of time to waste on things Farscape-related. I'm not *really* good at anything, but I like to think that I can write coherently, and I have some html knowledge. But I can't stress this enough: I'll do anything necessary. :)

Okay, I've been working on this message for the last hour or so and it's basically my rough breakdown of what the site will look like. I'm basically working from the assumption that we have two target audiences:
-- 1) Canadians who are already aware of the campaign and are looking for Canadian-focused information to launch their assault
-- 2) Canadians who AREN'T aware of either Farscape or the campaign who want to know what the frell is going on?!
So the site breaks down into the following main sections in the hopes of hitting both these groups:
YOU CAN SAVE FARSCAPE
We know there are Canadian 'Scapers out there but I think a lot of them aren't even aware Farscape has been cancelled right now or if they are aware they don't believe there is a lot they can do.
- First thing they need to do is be brought up on the history of the campaign. The general screwing over by the SciFi network. The major events in the timeline. The media that has already responded and so on.
- Then we offer them hope--with emphasis that their voice does matter even if they can't pick up the SciFi channel on their TV sets. Also *BRIEF* descriptions about the major campaigns underway with lots of things to direct them to the main Save Farscape site. I think part of our job here is to integrate as many people as possible into the international campaign--Canada as standing with an entire globe of 'Scapers.
- Lastly we point them to other sections on our site--particularly the Letter Campaigns and Events pages. More about those shortly.
WHY FARSCAPE?
- testimonials from users. Each user who posts will get what amounts to their own "Why Farscape?" homepage with how they got into the show, what they love about it, what's their favourite episode, why, etc. etc. Along with as much demographics as they are comfortable giving--optional for giving real names, plus their location, possibly age group, possibly interests. Basically the object of this section is to put a face to the 'Scapers, not just for the network execs as we've already been doing but to the general populous who are wondering what the heck Farscape is about. Canadians and non-Canadians alike will be invited to drop by and put up their little "Why Farscape" page.
- *note: I don't know an easy way to make this automated (particularly given the limits of my webspace provider) so if I get flooded with 500 reviews on the first day I may keel over and croak... if anyone has suggestions on what to do on that front, they would be most welcome--otherwise I'm prepared to just do it the hard way... although I may recruit some HTML helpers for this department.
WHAT IS FARSCAPE?
- The Farscape Primer - brings people up to date... to the end of Season 3 in prep for the Space launch of Season 4? What do people think?
- I also want a short and really sharp link list of the biggest Farscape fan sites on the net where people can go to find more information, multimedia, etc. Suggestions for this welcome.
- Also, where to buy/watch/rent Farscape. Where is it running right now in Canada? What time? Where can you rent it? Where can you buy it? Where can you order it online?
EVENTS
- This is the rally page and will obviously contain dates and associated information from people interested in joining or staging rallies.
- Rally blog: As events often need up-to-the-minute information to keep them organized, I'm going to create a blog that can be updated by rally organizers. I'm not exactly sure how I want to work the logistics on this but I'd either give access to a single Event Coordinator or I'd give access to the head of prospective rally groups. Do people have any thoughts on this because I'm sort of waffling between the two right now.
- page of graphics and/or links to sites with great graphics that people can download, print and poster their world with.
LETTER CAMPAIGNS
- The top three Int'l-related contacts--which I'm thinking would be SciFi (to release Farscape), UPN and Showtime (to take Farscape). Plus of course Canadian contacts--Space, The NewVI, The NewRO and any others that we think should be hit. The list should be fairly short because we want to focus people as much as possible.
With all of these we're going to want to give people some idea what they should be saying to each group along with general letter-writing tips... similar to the stuff I saw in one of the Kimrb threads earlier this week.
COMMUNITY
- links to this message board, the Yahoo board and our own forum... or is that too many and confusing?
Hrmm... I can't think of anything else off the top of my head... I will say that I think that we should leave "News" and "Links to other Save Farscape" sites to SaveFarscape.com... we don't want to duplicate any more than we absolutely have to.
Okay, I'm going to send out a couple emails to volunteers to take care of some of the stuff that's listed above. If people haven't put out their volunteer cry yet but would like to, don't fret... I've got lots of things that I can pass on to you.
In the meantime, rip the above apart and give me as much feedback as you can.

OR... option number 3 is we skip the blog idea and just say up-to-the-minute info can be found in the Community forums... this way I don't have to worry about who has access and who doesn't.

Someone sent me this via email and I thought I would pass it along as another possibility of what we as Canadians can be telling UPN:
ATTENTION CANADIAN FANS OF FARSCAPE
Canadian fans of Farscape should be interested to know that WSKB Boston, one of the American superstations offered by cable and satellite TV providers, is a UPN affiliate. Were UPN to add Farscape to its line-up, Canadian viewers who subscribe to one of the superstation bundles would have opportunity for the first time to see current episodes as they air in the U.S. This quirk of broadcasting gives Canadians something concrete to add to their correspondence to UPN. (And, who would have thought that the CRTC would finally do us a favour, eh?)
And me'thinks we need to add Boston to our list of potential UPN targets. :)

eek, I know! Your sheer powers of creativity scare me so I'm going to put off reading all those new messages until after I make dinner. ;)
In other news...
Domain name is resolving! Yay!! hehe... sorry, these little technical marvels still amaze me.
I also got a note from Red in answer to my query about how Save Farscape is planning on handling the smaller chapters. There is evidently a very very big new forum in the works on the new site with areas for all the regional chapters so I'm thinking we should probably make that our "official" one. My basic thought on this is that we've already picked up a couple new people just by using this board as our temporary base camp... and by virtue of the fact that this is where lost Canadian 'scapers seem to be coming. I'd like to keep that happening even after we do setup our own hq.
Anyways, more later tonight. My project for this evening is to design a logo that people can use for their flyers or whatever... as well as of course the website... hopefully I'll be able to run a first pass at the site tonight as well.

I'm not quite satified with it... it's very "Canadian" but it's also pretty dry. I tried a white on black version and that looked a bit sexier but I couldn't find a colour combination that set off the maple leaf sufficiently to see it. Anyways, I'm working on it but obviously feedback would be very welcome at this point... :eh:
Oh, and if you're wondering why I'm even bother with a logo... aside from it might be handy for people to use on flyers and whatever, I like having a graphic foundation to build on when I'm designing websites and a logo can provide that.

I <I>LOVE</I> the logo Etana...
I am soooo making up new flyers on Saturday!
Logo. Good logo...
Would look good on a tee, dontcha thing?
Okay, big job interview is tomorrow, so I'm officially taking myself offline for thirty-six hours.
I'll be checking pms and e-mail for rally attendees tonight but that's about it.
Hee. Great logo.
I am all atingle.
Oh, and if anyone knows where in Toronto I can buy individually wrapped packets of Saltines, please PM me. (NO, I'm not going to mail them to anyone...trust me. ;])

Indeed... that would actually put the white-background thing at an advantage.

hrmm... do you know of any restaurants that serve little packs of crackers with their soups or whatever? I'm just thinking I don't think I've ever seen something like that for sale in a grocery but you might be able to ask a restaurant where they get theirs.
Or you might try a warehouse place like Costco... if you guys have Costco in Toronto... they often stock places like restaurants so they might have something like that.

I was looking up DVD suppliers for the site and I noticed that not only does Amazon.ca have the box-set for 30% off right now ($165.21Cdn) it's ranked at #95 on their top selling item list...
And who says Canadians don't watch Farscape!

Yeah, Etana, I noticed that too! Now if I can get myself a DVD player and a few extra bucks, I can buy some and bump that number up higher! ;)

:eh:
Read this through again AFTER coffee and I agree that a black background would be better. (This is Farscape--it's gotta be black.) Red wouldn't be a problem on a tee but I think I understand what you mean for viewing online--what about a sky blue background or a star-scape?
It's still VERY cool. Logo *hee*

Blockbuster doesn't even have them in their database yet... ;) Although HMV doesn't stock them, you can at least special order the DVDs through them. Also, if you're up for a little searching, they have occasionally turned up in FutureShop and WallMart, but it's totally random as to what the chain stores get shipped.
If you haven't bought *any* yet, then hold on until October -- the Season 1 box set is coming out, and it's about half the price of the singles.

DVDsoon.com carries them online and the prices are in Canadian funds (whoo!) as does Amazon.ca and Indigo (evil*EVIL*Heather) theoretically carries them but always seems to be out of stock.
There's a dvd place near my office that carries them (and seems to be selling out frequently! Hmmmm, posters?)...like everything, I think, the bigger the city, the better the selection.
I think there's been talk of starting to lobby Blockbuster and Rogers to carry the dvds in Canada (and if not, boy, can we arrange that!)

Well, I know that the first time I saw Farscape was on DVD that I rented from Rogers, so I know they do carry them. We just have to get them to pick up the box season sets. ;) And HMV did carry some, so again, they just need some butterin' up.

Fortunately you guys are all so productive that you don't actually need me to do any kind of 'directing'... Tomorrow is Friday--thank goodness--and I'm looking forward to a weekend of happy coding. If all goes well, we'll have a site by Monday.
As for the logo... I'm still not quite happy with it however after spending five hours stuffing envelopes at work (don't ask) I had a lot of time to mull over alternatives... have patience and don't stamp it on anything 'official-type' yet. :)

yay! Thank you to Hegemon for putting this together it looks very spiffy.
My only comment... not all CHUM affiliates carry Farscape. Do we want to hit them in a "we want your news coverage sense"? Or do we want to focus on those affiliates that do carry Farscape... I'm just concerned about too much dispersing of mail... although I could easily be under-estimating the number of Canadian fans ready to send their letters in.
thoughts?

For the rally, considering CityTV is right in the CHUM building, I'd say it might be a good idea to double-team them - the New VR isn't carrying Farscape ATM (they played the last ep - for awhile, anyway - a week ago today) so maybe we can hit them with a) news coverage of the rally and b) "hey, NewVR isn't playing Scape right now, but it's such a hot topic, why not run it?" I'm sure their fall schedule is fixed, but if something new gets cancelled maybe they could fill it with Scape? Dunno, I'm just running off at the brain. ;) What do you think?
As for the other CHUM outlets, I would guess that we could ask them to cover the rallies?
If anyone has something more coherent to add (shouldn't be hard, LOL), please do!

Geez this board is active... three pages down to find our thread.
okay, with regards to what to do with CHUM, I think we need to be really focused with them if we're going to be hitting all the same affiliates whether they air Farscape or not. Hit them as a local media outlet with essentially a vested interest in raising the publicity of the show.
In keeping with that theme, I'd like to know who's handling the press release (I'm assuming there is one) for the Toronto rally. I really think you guys should let them know that you're coming... let them know that the Toronto rally is part of a *global* effort (that's going to be covered on CNN Headline News of all places) and what your plans are for the event... and you know, even hit them with a broader theme like "ensuring the survival of quality television in an increasingly wasteland" or something... anyways, in my mind they'd be stupid NOT to cover you since you're basically bringing the story to their doorstep.
This really needs to be done fairly soon and if you'd like a second pair of eyes to go over the release I'd be happy to do so... once upon a time I got training in this sort of thing although it's never gotten any practical use as of yet.
Also, people looking for volunteer tasks to do in the Toronto area, maybe you could track down who the press release would need to be sent to..?
Alright... you'll be hearing more from me regarding the site later today.

I actually finished round one of tweaking the logo and was about to post it when I found a private email on this board making a suggestion for another way of treating it... since this was pretty close in line with another idea I had I thought I'd give it a shot.
So... you now have two logos choices before you. Pick quick, one will become final sometime this afternoon when I start into the graphics for the site.
Choice #1 based on the first design.
http://adwin.ca/farscape/farcan_1.jpg http://adwin.ca/farscape/farcan_2.jpg http://adwin.ca/farscape/farcan_3.jpg
And choice #2 based on the suggestion--which I extend my many thanks btw. I did my best with Moya but I'm still a little concerned she looks like a computer mouse...

I like the one with Moya included best but I can see the mouse comparison ... is there any way of making Moya larger without it taking over the whole logo? Or changing the look of the "vapour trail" so it doesn't look like an electrical cord? ;)

It's better, but now the vapour trail looks a bit like a "tail" to me. But I dunno - just talking out my butt again. :P Let's see what the others have to say. I mean, most of the people who go to the site will probably already know what Moya looks like anyway. I think.

Yes.
And although I hadn't talked to Etana about it yet, it occurred to me that once they're done, they could be posted on the site so everyone can get at 'em.
I have two basic flyer ideas and please feedback:
1) Plain text with slogans for posters & such to be posted on telephone polls & bulletin boards. I'm working out several slogans (and snurching others from bboard discussions)
2) Stuff with pictures for bookmarks and flyers to be handed out at the Toronto Rally and CONcept and stuff.
The plan is to have the designs ready by Mon/Tues... I can't afford commercial printing at the moment, so everything's going to be B&W and designed for maximum effect on a photocopier (I hope).
If you have any thoughts or suggestions, please pm me or something.

As the Community area is basically for people who are already Farscape fans and interested in helping the show, I thought it might be fun to stick in a random quote generator with some of our favourite quotes from the show. The quotes will run in a space above the forum itself (sort of where the Save Farscape graphic is on this one).
If people are looking for something to do, could you round up some good quotes for me and dump them here for me to pick up later? My preference is for funny quotes that are one or two lines long max with what they said and who said it... the people visiting the forums will some knowledge of the show or are at least curious about it, so can have some 'scape-centric language in there as well.
have fun. :D

I'm currently trying to find some code that will allow me to change the graphic while changing the quote. This way we can have a picture of Crichton alongside his quote or a picture of Zhann alongside hers... also doubles as a nifty way to match faces to names for the uninitiated.
Try to keep the quote quite short... most of the ones you posted are fine, but some of them might be a little squeaky... I don't want to have the title bar occupy too much space since people are going to ostensibly be there for the forum. ;)
oh and I probably won't use the episode name just in the interest of conserving space.

As you may have noticed I've been waffling back and forth on whether our site should have its own forum... on one hand I don't like duplicating the efforts already on their way here--and there is an advantage to making base camp on the main highway since we do pick up the occasional wandering Canadian... on the other hand I had to pull this thread off the third page yesterday... the amount of traffic going on here could leave the Canadian connection a little squashed.
Thus after much deliberation--and nearly tearing my hair out trying to figure out the style code--we have our very own Save Farscape Canada forum which can be accessed through the main site (http://www.savefarscapecanada.com) under Community. And yes, I will be linking to both it and the Save Farscape.com forum... AND the Yahoo Group as well... but ours will be at the top of that list.
So sign up now. We have much scheming to do... :D

Tonight is flyer night. Expect flyers and semi-psychotic ramblings on yahoogroups tomorrow. ;)
I'm also consulting with "my pr team" (hee, just wanted to say that.) on the press release/media advisory thingie today.
Goal is to have it sent out to Canadian media outlets (my offline bud Jen has been compiling a database for SaveFarscape-related craziness.) on Wednesday. I don't really expect anyone to show up to cover it but publicizing it is a way to gather some attention and maybe get some articles written about FARSCAPE for the 4th season premiere in Feb or the beginning of the John/Aeryn storyline.
I've heard from a SPACE staffer that if the stuff from speaker's corner is good enough, it might get used on a SPACE flow segment...
I will make sure that a release/advisory gets sent to Jonathan Llyr, the HypaSpace guy.

Jen and I will be banging out a media advisory between commercials during Buffy tomorrow night ;)
Okay, not quite that bad but the PR plan (another plan...oh, heck) is to do a Media advisory going out Wednesday (I believe) and then a press release following the event on Monday.

okay, I'm going to continue to relay information from Save Farscape Canada to this thread to catch any latecomers and stragglers looking to join the cause.
If you haven't heard about it already, Canadian 'Scapers have their own website (www.savefarscapecanada.com) now and our own message board where we're planning the spreading of Farscape through the Canadian populous like wildfire. If you're wondering what exactly Canadians can do, and why we should even bother with all this since our voice is so tiny alongside our the giant foes to the south... well, think again. Canada is the only audience in North America right now getting Farscape and we have already had word from Space that if we can bring up Farscape into their top 5 shows they will tell SciFi. That will give all the US contingent some serious ammunition come January when their massive assault on SciFi gets geared up in full. It's a long shot and it's going to be hard, but in my books if we can make any measurable difference to Space's ratings they're going to take notice.
So check out the site... download the new flyers that have just gone online (should be even more there tonight). The flyers are targeted to home grown Canadian audiences with times for airings for Space and eastcoast and westcoast editions to reflect Space's air schedule.
see you there.

Hey Etana, y'think we should ask the mods to close this thread and start a new SaveFarscapeCanada updates thread?

Mmm... good idea... although, maybe not close this one since there's still a lot of good stuff in here... but I'll start up a new Save Farscape Canada topic thread the next time we've got something to announce... or you can when it's time to post how wildly successful the Toronto rally was. ;)

Oh, God.
I'm pretending like I'm not going to be doing this on Saturday.
Ack. Fear.
No. Must be hopeful. Calm, cool, collected.
Devoted, not demented. (Or depressive, deranged, or any other bad "D" words).
It will be fine. It will be GREAT. I will NOT have a nervouse breakdown....

Well, I did my part here in London. About the same time that everyone was heading down to Speaker's Corner in Toronto, I was giving a What is Farscape lesson to the population in London.
Wish that I could have been in Toronto, but....:(

We wish you could've been there too, T-J! Hope things went well in London. We had a great rally in Toronto and a preliminary report is here (http://www.wdsection.com/community/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4286)!
