Australia's most popular TV guide this week is carrying out a "your say" section with the topic being; "What cancelled TV show would you most like to see brought back?"

Lets flood them with Farscape responses and it might make a write up in the magazine, and show the producers in Australia that they should continue with the show.

The email address is:

Lets get behind the cause!

WELL SPOTTED!

I've sent in my email....and will encourage my friends to do likewise.

But I worry about Aussie fans – they seem completely relaxed nowadays (though the fault lies with Channel Nine for axing it in the first place). It's so amazingly frustrating that we're not able to watch it and help with worldwide ratings. Even release of the DVD's has been pathetic, with S1 only available in October – what is UP with that!?

Have you by chance posted this info anywhere else? For example:

http://scifivideo.com.au/
http://bboard.scifi.com/bboard/browse.cgi/1/5/984

(Didn't want to cross-post if you've already covered all the bases).

If there are any Aussies reading this....it's probably a time-limited opportunity to answer the very question we've been dying to address – so get in there...
I'm the biggest cynic of them all – but it's got to be a case of every little bit counts.

Excellent.. I've been feeling helpless sitting back here in Aussie..... Waiting and hoping that a 5th season will be complete. Shaking my head at the some of the antics. Feeling heaps better by the UPN to the rescue thread.... (Thanks Kimrb)

No at last theres something that I can do. My God isn't this an Aussie show? Well probably not in all sence of the word, it is financed by others. But 90% of the cast and crew are Aussies or Kiwi's Doing a fantastic job.

I shake my head and wonder why the show isnt on here in on commercial TV. Instead we get the watered down verson on Fox Kids. And it's still only season 1! Instead we get fed a bucket load of hospital drama, a gauntlet cop shows, mind numbing game shows and country bumpkin feel good Aussie drama. It's about time that someone in Australian commercial TV put a steak in the ground and showed something Sci-Fi (and not at 11pm like they do with Trek!)

Now I'm off to vote.

Bye for now.

I too have sent them an email! They better sit up and take notice!

Farscape deserves Australia's support, if only they would watch and see how good it is! Hopefully lots of people will watch when season 2 finally starts airing on Fox8 in a few weeks (yay no more Fox Kids or edited Channel 9 versions!) :)

...though for me personally, this wait was too long and so me and some of my friends have been buying the DVD releases from the U.K. - already up to the end of season 3! Unfortunately I guess this means not as many people will buy the Region 4 release of Farscape...but what do they expect, releasing it so far behind the rest of the world!

It's a shame SBS or the ABC couldn't have stepped up. You'd think it would be perfect for one of them...?

Unfortunately not everyone has cable :( Cuts out massive amounts of viewers I imagine, worldwide.

Still.
It would be a whole lot worse DVD, cable or otherwise, if it just stops dead at the end of series 4.

Gotta have hope.

Warning - Little rant ahead...

It's a shame channel 9 has given the show no respect, with it's support Farscape could have had a huge fanbase here, instead of the smaller-yet-very-loyal one it has.

Channel 9 doesn't give shows a chance - if something doesn't rate well in the first 3 episodes they immediately assume that it will not do well, then see about trying to get rid of it as soon as possible - witness when they started showing two episodes a week in the first season, then they finally showed the second season: every day, in the middle of the night in some states, and 2pm in others.

Channel 9 hates anything sci-fi, it's a wonder they keep buying it at all, they should be relabled as the "All Mainstream Aussie Drama" network, and left to their cop shows and soapies.

I wonder if it would do any good to rally outside 9's main office, or at Homebush studios?

I have a question, if Foxtel is now the aussie partner instead of channel nine, will nine still be able to show season 4?

Cynicat

Not sure - last I heard Foxtel had first-air rights, and channel nine planned to show season 3 "sometime". I doubt nine will show season 4, once they discovered it wasn't a kids show (got fooled by the Henson name) in the first season, they were eager to be rid of it. It's unlikely they'll take the chance to show it once it's been on Foxtel.

Can't believe there have been no posts to this site since November!

Come on Aussie Farscape fans ... where are you? If this is all the effort you've made no wonder channel 9 can't be bothered.

Make some flyers and post them at work, stick some in the local grocery store, hand them out to theatre patron when you go to the movies. Write letters to the station management ... a campaign to get a show reinstated and on at a good time needs more than a handful of viewers.

If you are serious about this get cracking and beef up the campaign.

Hey, I don't even live in Oz and I got two guys down there to start watching just in the past couple of months. :) Isn't there a convention in Sydney this weekend where Lani, Jonathan, David F. and Anth are going to be (along with some SG-1 people, I believe)? If so, that's a great place to spread the word. :bounce:

I would like to take to oportunity to reply to this post. Firslty, the Aussie fans are out there and we have been speaking with Channel 9, we have been writing, phoning, emailing, posting on their boards and making sure that petition that we sent last year to try and get Farscape back on TV has been followed up as best as we possibly can...

As to where we are - We are out there organising bi-monthly meetings in every capital city to introduce new people to Farscape, encouraging friends and family to watch Farscape, we are out there organising trips to Sydney, and informing any of the media that will listen as to what is occuring. Sometimes more successfully than others... For instance we got national radio coverage of the Save Farscape Rally, as well as any other events that we either organise or attend, last year we also attempted to get media coverage of a Brisbane based convention, but a fire turned out to be much more interesting to the media...

We also have our own BB, which details what the Aussies are doing towards the Save Farscape campaign, and lists Aussie-specific information. We have also attempted to contact other viewers of Farscape posting on the channel 9 BB, to inform them of what is occuring in regard to the campaign, but with 9 not allowing these posts through, it makes it very difficult. During the last few brisbane Farscape meetings there has been a minimum of 2 new people turn up to each meeting, none of which had ever seen Farscape previously...

According to 9, the only reason that they are running Farscape now is the get the first run Australian drama ratings it requires to retain it's licence...Therein lies the problem...

OK, I don't mean to rant here, but how dare you accuse the aussies of not doing anything. We have worked as hard as everyone else on this. We have sent letters, emails, faxs. We have made international phone calls to sci-fi, we have donated gifts and money to the cause. We have tried to get Farscape mentioned in the media in Australia whenever possible. We have introduced friends and family to the show, lent out tapes, supported the conventions. Our Save Farcape Rally in Sydney saw 54 fans attend, more than most of the rallies in the US, not bad for a show that was not even being screened at the time, and hadn't been shown psat season 2 anyway!!! And to top it off, this weekend, a bunch of dedicated fans are hosting the annual TaScape BBQ, a chance for fans, cast and crew to get together over a bit of lunch and a few drinks in the park. It is funded out of our own pockets, and we rely on people to make donations to cover our costs, but if we don't we don't care. We are expecting around 200 fans this year, along with some members of the cast and crew, and will be contacting various media outlets about it, in an effort to get coverage. So......are we still not doing enough????? Have you done as much as this???? I don't mind people being critical, but I really wish they would check their facts before they open their mouth.

Well said OzDeb (Secretary of the FARSCAPE Aussie Mafia) & nemain!

What they have said is perfeclty true, and normally none of us would bother replying, but I guess we're all a little tired and grumpy. As Deb has said, our annual Australia-wide get-together is on this weekend, this is one of my last posts before I leave tomorrow morning, and we are expecting the company of some awesome FS people. We'd like to take the opportunity now, to invite any stray Aussies that may be cruising pas this board, and who haven't found the Aussie boards yet. Please check the Official FARSCAPE Aussie Mafia website for details and contacts.
The main reason I am an infrequent visitor to most boards - apart from the Aussie ones - is that I don't have time. Real life means that I must limit my time on the net, or else other more important activities, like the 'Save Farscape' campaign will suffer.
Anyhow - must go and pack - heaps to do before I leave. Take Care!

Tascape! Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!

So very much fun - even though Scorpy showed up 10mins after I had to go *seethes, then sobs uncontrollably* Scapers are excellent cooks, and throw a terrific raffle :D

Even managed to make a new recruit to the cause out of my friend Liz :D

Oooh! Did any other Sydneysiders catch the TV Guide in today's Sunday Telegraph? Cover: Gigi!!!! Page 5 featuring a spunky little article about her and the show (they even mentioned our campaign, and the fact that channel 9's "intermittent scheduling" hurt the show's ratings and hindered its' success in Australia.) It mainly revolved around how much Farscape has helped her career, with a basic blurb about the show. Shame half the article was taken up by a listing of other cult/scifi shows, and when and where they're showing - oh so helpful to us... *bitch moan*

I can scan it if anyone's interested :)

Ozzies Rule!! So don't worry about anyone saying that you aren't putting the word out on Farscape. Frankly, I think there is only so much we can do for the show at this point. But you can keep introducing your friends and family to the wonder of Farscape, thus making a few more fans for the show. this small effort really adds up though.

The other thing is to keep writing to Channel 9 and the scifi channel in the states! All you have to do is not quit, keep the faith and eventually things will work out!

Now resorting to Sci-Fi. Currently considering threatening to sing at them (pretty scary if you've heard me sing. Just *don't* give me bacardi first!)

As for the Aussies not doing anything ... did I actually say that?
You mistook a pep talk for criticism. A pep talk, that incidentally, has produced some action!

Of the many posts I've read at a number of Aussie sites, the general tone of the posts were ... it's all over bar the shouting so it's not worth continuing the fight! That's not the 'little Aussie battler' mentality that I grew up with. If you don't believe me just take a look at some of the posts even at this site and see the negetivism such as "... I think we've done about all we can ..."
Whatever happened to never give up, never surrender?

On a further point, judging by the tripe that passes for entertainment on Aussie TV screens (from the reviews at TV Week, ninemsn.com and comments from friends and family in Aus, etc) it's little wonder dear old channel 9 are dragging their heels when it comes to showing Farscape at a reasonable hour.

And for your info file sweetheart ... I'm an Aussie ... the genuine article ... as Aussie as meat pies, Toohey's beer, Aussie Rules Football and Holden cars ... true blue, through and through! (reporting to you from the UTs and very far from home!)

Of the 8 threads listed at this site, 5 have not had one post this year (2003). :O

When I think about all the letters and emails and phonecalls I have made since the day we heard Farscape had been cancelled. All the meetings we had and all the long chat session to discuss strategy, it is amazing to me that someone can think, just because THEY didnt know about it, that we are not doing anything.

We will never give up the fight, but being Aussies, dont feel the need to post to every BB that comes into existence. We felt our time was better spent on constructive work and not constructive critisicm.

The barby was, as usual, a wonderful success and this helped to inspire people to continue with the campaign.

Of the millions of Farscape sites on the web, why is this the only one we are supposed to post at to show our support? We have regular get togethers to pep each other up. We have a regular chat every Sunday night (and more recently Saturday morning as well) We have our own bulletin board and web site. Why haven't you joined the Farscape Aussie Mafia? We have over 150 members and I don't recall seeing your name on the list. That must mean you are not doing enough Selena....better get cracking. Head over to www.magicmonster.com/FAM if you think we are doing nothing. We in Oz are one of the most organised fan groups you will find. We had the fourth biggest 5th for Farscape Rally. And as others have mentioned, 2 weeks ago, we had our TaScape BBQ. Plans are already underway for next years event, that is how committed we are to saving our show. Just because we don't happen to post a lot on this board means nothing. Now start playing nice or I will have to do horrible things to you with the broken wooden spoon I am now holding.

Fair dinkum Deb ... you have got to get a grip! I've always thought Aussies had a great sense of humor but either Aussies have changed over the last few years or I was wrong in the assumption in the first place. Perhaps you're so pissed off with me because you thought I was an American having a go. Sorry honey but I'm not! But then again, if you feel you can't get by without a rave, and someone to be ticked off with ... then I will offer myself as the scapegoat. Although I'd be happier to see that energy channeled into more productive areas.

I would have loved to have joined the Farscape Aussie Mafia except this is the first time I've even heard of it and the way I found out is not the friendliest so am now a little wary.

Finally, if you're so organized and so 'hot' with all your campaigns how is it that Farscape is not #1 on TV and many of my sci-fi loving friends back home say 'Far what?" when I mention Farscape? Hmmmm?

BTW in case this becomes a slinging match instead of my effort to take the mickey out of a site that hadn't seen a post in months, I will make this my last entry. Have a great campaign and I hope you have tremendous success in getting Farscape back into production. My heart goes out to the Aussie actors and the crew that lost their jobs last September.

The FARSCAPE Aussie Mafia has been in existance for over 2 years now, and well known in Oz. Those in the production office knew us well, and we had interaction with them. On the last day of shooting they received a singing telegram from us which they thought so good, they had the man repeat it again for those on set. Ricky and Cheryl Manning are our patrons, and we still keep in constant touch. We organise regular get-togethers within our respective states, and our state co-ordinators make sure newbies are welcome. We have also had several nationwide get-togethers, including (as Deb has stated) the 4th biggest 5th for FARSCAPE globally. This was organised in less than 2 weeks, and we had attendees from W.A., Vic., Qld, S.A. & N.S.W. Deb has been a tireless worker for FARSCAPE from the moment she went onto the set, and she has many friends amongst the crew who are now out of work, some of whom we renewed aquaintances with at the barby. Our efforts continue, and whether they are heard of overseas or not, is not our main concern. Just because the SciFi / Fantasy genre is not as vocally supported here does not necessarily mean that it is not popular. As an Aussie, you would remember that we don't make as big a deal as perhaps some other cultures. Our message has been heard in high places, but Channel Nine has undergone extensive management upheaval in the last 12 months, which is ongoing, and it's not a good time for any local content unless it's a cop show, medical drama - or God forbid - a reality show. FARSCAPE employed over 700 actors during it's lifetime, and injected a quarter of a billion dollars into the N.S.W. economy, these statistics, unfortunately, bear little weight when stacked against a flawed ratings system.
So I guess what I am trying to reiterate is that - just because it doesn't make front page news in the U.S. papers, doesn't mean that we are being slack here. We are still working our arses off - we haven't given up - we just do it in different places. Our focus from the start has always been to support Aussie efforts, and Aussie fans. We figured that the best way to do that was locally, as many of the bulletin boards centred in other countries were harder to navigate, and local content would have been swiftly buried - not to mention the fact that many Aussie fans have still not seen further than the first half of season three, and if they wanted to stay spoiler free, they avoided places where spoilers might be inadvertantly viewed.
Deb and I appreciate your concern for Australian efforts, and the preservation of our sense of humour, but I assure you, you have no need to worry. Deb still knows how to laugh and tell a good joke, and but for her efforts, and contacts, our barbies would not have been so amazing. Rest assured then, that although we rarely visit boards like this, and you probably won't hear about our efforts in the States, the Mafia is alive and thriving Downunder, and 'they' know who we are!

Cheers,

Sue & Deb

We may be few in Oz but we are dedicated, you cant expect there to be alot of us it's had such a crappy showing, and has just finished its showing of part of S3 during the non ratings time and when people go away on holidays (I did hear of some people who had missed it becaus they didnt know it was on because they where away), nin didnt even have the guts to finish showing the rest of the season.

I'm so sorry I hadn't posted on here before, but there are like hundreds of Farscape BB around and of late I havent had time to post on the OZ Farscape BB let alone find the time to look at others. I had thing to get ready for TaScape and what with work I havent had much timefor the net.

But hey I have showed my suport I made it to the 5th which ment I was away from home on my birthday and it took one plane ride and a 24hr bus ride back, i was just real lucky that it was on during the holidays.

My heart goes out to the Aussie actors and the crew that lost their jobs last September.
how did this spoon get brown in the first place? never mind i don't think i want to know!!
i think i know what's happening, i post to this forum all the time, just not in the aussie section i bet plenty of others do the same

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but someone's gotta do it.

Recently after being excessively narked at the way channel nine is abusing the best show EVER, I gave them a ring to 'inquire' as to what the frell is going on.

They were so kind as to inform me that farscape (the end of season 3) will not be shown until december this year.

Uh, I'm sorry, was that december, uh yes I believe it was.

This is a major bummer, actually it a catastrophe, and I think that channel nine is making a relatively large boo boo. Because if they actually showed a season, an entire season consistently then they would have found that farscape was immensely popular.

I mean how are we supposed to introduce new people to the show if farscape isn't showing, and keeps getting the treatment it does from nine.

It looks like its back to s1 dvd s2 tapes (heavily cut ones from where they showed it at 5:30 in the arvo here in Perth) and s3 & 4 vcds courtesy of high speed internet connections and friends in the uk.

Well. Now that I've got that out of my system. I can return to normal operationsand no being insane.

Sorry guys just had to vent somewhere and this happened to be my first port of call after my telephone converstaion with the morons at channel nine.

Selena:

we do make efforts like debbie said, we're just not as noticeable as you guys in the US, because we don't actually see the airings there adn nobody particularly cares what we think. Thats's not to say that we haven't written, faxed, emailed, called etc consistently to Scifi and anyone else who we think may posssibly take notice.

Frell - they killed it on Aussie TV the first time 'round, now they're just going to kick it while it's down aren't they?

Guess they're afraid of showing during ratings season in case it actually proves to do better than all the other dren they're inflicting on us ("What do you mean Farscape is rating higher than 'Home Renovation Resues'?! I thought we put it on in the middle of the night to stop that happening! That's it, take it off the air - I never want that show to see the light of day! And you're fired!")

OK all, was flipping through the brand new TV Week and I noticed the editors column. She has issued a challenge I think we can do, but firsts, this is what she writes, in her words (I didn't add the Farscape bit, she did)

I don't know of any show with such passionate fans as All Saints (except maybe Farscape). A big call, I know. But these are fans who...
1. Send me petetions asking for more All Saints stories (a big hello to the Amorous Ambos)
2. Hold conferences to watch old tapes of the show together
3. Call radio stations to request songs from Ben and Bron.
Hard to beat, wouldn't you say? I love the fan club idea. After all, I was once a member of the Young Talent Time fan club. Hmm, did I just admit that? Well, Vince Del Tito was a man of immense talent.
Seriously, I think it's fabulous that people are so supportive of Australian shows. I'd like to put out the challenge. Can you rival the All Saints supporters?
We would love to hear from Australia's biggest TV fans...and we'll even follow up with a story in the mag.

So people......I think we have been issued a challenge. Obviously we have made a mark with TV Week to have rated a mention, lets show them how fanatical we really are, and get some publicity for the show we love. I wan't everyone to send a letter to TV Week saying what you do for the fandom. Mention the meetings you have, how you have tape viewings, the merchandise you buy, the stories and songs you write, the music videos you make and download, anything you do that is related to the show. Tell them about our chats and bulletin boards. Tell them how you have converted others, and mention that you belong to the Farscape Aussie Mafia (even if you haven't joined yet, we still consider everyone members). Send your emails to tvweek@acp.com.au and use the subject title, Farscape fans are the most dedicated or words to that effect. Sue and I will be sending a joint letter as President and Vice President of the FAM, outlining our fandom history. Lets see if we can send our show out with a bang, lets get a full story in the mag about our show

Why don't you post this on the main Campaign Strategizing board? It'll give snow-bound East Coasters something to do today :) Let's see All Saints top a freakishly well-organized international fan base!

Alright, I'm new to the board, but a devoted scaper. Since first season, I've just not been that active by way of fandom etc, but it's all changing now.
I want to know if there are any Brisbane specific lists? I did meet some wonderul ladies at the Star Wars convention last year and had the flyer to go watch the screening of season 2 at the library with them, but i couldn't make it then and that little flyer is lost in my house somewhere.

I know there are meetings on occasion, and I'd like to be involved. *nods*

Anyone got URLs?

Meanwhile, here's a little something I cooked up the other day:

Hi Banshee,

You can check out all the FAM meets on the FAM Website (http://www.magicmonster.com/FAM). Click on 'Events'. Check your PM and I'll get you in touch with the QLD Coordinator. She's one of the ladies whom you met at the Star Wars Con. I reckon they have a meet on this weekend but don't quote me on that. :D

Yep, the Brissie mob are having a get together this weekend, and those lovely ladies you met at the Star Wars convention will be there. I would normally direct you to our bulletin board, but it is dead at the moment after being hacked into. In the meantime, check out www.magicmonster.com/FAM for updates, or email De, the Brissy co-ordinator, on wizards_of_oz5@hotmail.com Hope that helps

Yay! We're finally back in business.

We've now found a new server for our BB, and this time, it's very stable (and, hopefully, permanent!). You can find it here: fam.gumnut.net/phpBB2/ (http://fam.gumnut.net/phpBB2/)

BTW, we managed to back up our old ozfire board at the start of Feb this year, so you should find all our old posts, members, profiles etc still there. Gumnut has also tweaked it so it looks incredibly spiffy with pretty colours and such.

Hope to see you there!
