I actually live slightly south of Jax. Florida and was wondering if there are any fans nearby.
I really want to organize some sort of local publicity to get people to watch farscape since our city has a large population. I seriously doubt I'm the only local fan, but its good to have some support.

I'm originally from Jacksonville, but haven't been back for a long while except to visit family..
I know that doesn't help, but I just had to respond to a Jacksonville thread. :D
Sunni-
You're not the only Scaper fan in this area. I live in St. Augustine and have loved the show since it first started.
I downloaded a petition and got some of my coworkers and friends to sign it and mailed it to a few places listed on SaveFarscape websites. I guess every little bit helps. I was thinking of making a flyer about the show and it's upcoming episodes in Jan. 2003 and seeing if I can place it in our local Barnes and Noble (in the free local news area).
I've actually never done anything like this for any other show, but I think that Farscape is such an original show with great writing and a terrific cast. I just hope it gets picked up elsewhere :aok:
I hope you have much luck in Jax.

I started watching the show around March this year. I had seen a few episodes casually over the past seasons, but I caught a marathon or something around that time and I was really impressed. So, I have been getting as many eps as possible to watch and have seen both 1st & 2nd seasons completely and now starting on the 3rd. I have also gotten my parents, friends, and other family members hooked on the show. I think Farscape is the best show I've ever seen and it deserves to continue for as long as possible!!!
I actually live right between Jax and St. A. , off St. Road 13. So it basically takes me 15 minutes to get to either place.
Basically I have considered some kind of ad in the Folio right before the rest of the season airs to generate some interest/support. I know the Folio is free to the public so a lot of people see it and it targets a broad range of places around this area. I have no idea yet how much this costs or what to say...it's just a thought.
I also thought about posting flyers too in anyplace that might have billboards, like around UNF/FCCJ and anywhere else.
I was thinking that if our local area could get some people together we could form some sort of SAVE FARSCAPE group. We don't necessarily have to meet in person, but we could maybe chip in together on any ads/flyers, etc. I'm not rich, but I would definitely invest what I can to help promote the show.
Take care,
Sunni
Sounds like you've got some good ideas Sunni. I didn't even think about the college campus route. I might have to do the same thing down here at Flagler College. I have some limited access to a computer and copiers so I'm going to try to create a flyer to pass out around here. I'll just have to find out the specifics of when FS will be shown (either in reruns hopefully or in Jan.) to put it on the flyer.
Let me know how things turn out up there and if you have questions or any more good ideas e-mail back.

Resurrecting this post for a get-together by Regency Square, Sunday 7-25
[and more if goes well]
As our last meetup was cancelled, why don't we do our own?
I've found that the Docking Station would be willing let us play our Farscape DVDs on their large Screen TV. No guarantee (no reservation I think) but this is to pick up their slow day, Sunday. I was told this by the manager (owner?, think his name is Sean). I'd be willing to go early to 'hold' the TV. I'm calling there again this evening to confirm. We could repay him buying coffees, refreshments, snacks or sandwiches. And.. Mudville Grill Sports Bar next door so won't miss any favorite sporting events. And other patrons there may be intrigued. ;-) (Location below)
But we could meet there as with any Meetup. If any Farscape questions came up as we're 'shooting the breeze', we could research there via his internet access (small fee).
LOCATION: From Regency Square, go north on Monument Road (or 9-A) about 1/2 mile. Just after the underpass for 9-A interchange on the right will be an "L" shaped strip mall and a gas station at Lee Rd. The sign features Mudville Grill and it's easy to spot. Docking Station is a couple of doors down in same shopping center.
Meetup may allow choosing days by mid-August according to my e-mail with them. Yeah!
Please reply if interested!
Thanks,
Pam

Farscape.Meetup.com note.
I'm going to sign-up to temporarily be the Jacksonville Meetup organizer (doing it later this afternoon). I think the last day to start a free trial is September 7.
On the eighth, some inactive locations are possibly being disbanded due to lack of interest. I don't want that to happen, here. I don't imagine much other than exchanging emails, this month. -- The disaster is in the forefront for now.
Any in NE Florida, St. Mary's/ Kingsland GA invited too, of course. Enter Jacksonville as [location]. If you're a member of MU, you should be able to e-mail me after the organizer functions permit it.(And visa versa). Then anyone interested can make plans about a casual get together, later.
Meetup has a 30day free organizer trial. Currently, I don't plan on using it after that -- i.e., I can't afford $19/mo charge. I just hope to use it to make contact with Meetup members. Then hope they'll come over here to organize subsequent gatherings, if not more.
Hope to hear from you!

DineforAmerica.org is giving a part of, to 100%, of the profits from October 5 at participating restaurants to the Katrina fundraising efforts. [Red Cross, and possibly other charities for Katrina. Some restaurants are giving 25% of Sales, isn't that even more?] http://www.dineforamerica.org/
Remember the "Fifth for Farscape" Rallying cry and, well, Rallies held on October 5? Interesting coincidence. For Newbies, we were promoting a "Fifth" Season, is what that meant..
Meetup.com's traditional first Wednesday of month meetings falls on October 5. They are the ones that sent me the reminder.
If you're gathering and dining with friends that day, consider supporting these restaurants with your business. It would be nice if Scapers could.
Organized by state>city>restaurant. Many give maps there. I liked IHOP's webpage link: They reached out to IHOP's displaced workers saying they'll help them find work.
Thanks! Can also post your interest under your state threads (Where on Erp are You?) and see what happens.
Thx! //Pam

IF MEETUP Oct 5, dine here to benefit http://www.dineforamerica.org for KATRINA FUNDRAISER

Hi NE Florida Scapers! A Meetup is this Wednesday, and: Let's plan where & when to Meetup for the time after this one. Just get together and "shoot the breeze" talking about Farscape. ( Farscape.meetup.com )
For those who didn't get Meetup's email:
Meetup is Wed, Nov 2 at 8pm (Temporary arrangement).
The location is Barnes and Noble BookStore and Cafe on Atlantic Blvd at South Side Blvd (in Jax). I'll be sporting the black-T Hey sold: "Flipping, Frelling, Fantastic, Beyond"
Relly need your preferences for venue and what day works best for you? - for future (e.g., December) meetings.
IMPORTANT: Please respond as may abandon the meetup site. Replies here are even better. Do we want to move from expensive Meetup to yahoo group or something similar. And we'll know of your interest, then.
I'm acting as Meetup organizer another month as was not able to do enough with it last month. I am going to email the inactive posters at Meetup. Four people (2 non-Meetup) recently say they'd like to get together. -- But haven't heard back yet on this meeting. I hope we can come up with day or days-of-the week* that work.
*Ideas: Another city met on Sunday afternoons. Maybe rotate days if no definite concensus: One month a weekday, weekend the next, or mid-month? Any interest rotate locations: Jacksonville or Saint Augustine? What type of place: suggests menu has a variety: where can just get a sandwich or a snack/dessert, too if don't want dinners.
My interests: If a Sunday, I can do an earlier time if it's on the Westside or Orange Park, or I'll have the good car to meet at 4:15 anywhere. OP locations: Mall food court, fastfood or many of restaurants in area, even Krystal's Hot Spot and Roosevelt OP exit. These places allowed Meetups: Krispie Creme on Cassat (4 blocks South of I-10) and no grill at Cedar Hills shopping area's Phoenix Bowl-a-Matic, 2600 Blanding [I-295 exit east on Wilson 1 mile, left (north) 2 blocks just far end of bridge on left] & Country Cabin (also CHS Center) can seat 8-10 with reservation.
Don't know our numbers yet or if large enough to require reservation/permission. One scaper is in Callahan and another is disabled and imagine that they'd like Regency part of the time, atleast, so they can come.
I don't know if one, a St. Aug scaper, will come to any in Jax. I have a cousin in St. Aug so even a second meeting a month there could have me there (For me: perhaps 5pm Sunday, but Anytime Monday thru Friday 1pm works for me) .
So that's were we are. Sounds like I started the Meetup right here. :)

Here's the email I'm sending for Meetup. Also, I'd like input here as would like to drop meetup and those fees and change to yahoo groups. Watch for replies to this thread.
Wanna Meetup Sun Nov 20? Also: poll & Need ideas of days/times/area-venue even
Just for this meeting, it's near Regency at the Docking Station.
More on the get together, below. I hope you'll take a moment for the poll on the website. It's just one I threw together, it has seven options: your preferences (can choose even all seven, not restricted): I'm polling re: Meetup for whether for weekday or weekend, areas of town/s, daytime vs. evening. Give an idea of what works for you. If you like, please also reply on the MU forum under the post relating to the poll: to express better what ideas or suggestions would work for you. Without input, who knows what I'll come up with!!!
I remember some of the many places (there were dozens and into St Aug. ) that allowed meetups. Let's put our heads together and plan!
The poll is here: It's on the Homepage for http://www.Farscape.meetup.com
*** Please check for an important note that I am posting on http://www.watchfarscape.com/forums under this Subforum: Where on Erp?/ Western Half/ Jacksonville Thread.
How about meeting this Sunday? I know it's late notice, so not cancelling the other meetup already posted (that one could be relocated/rescheduled if responses show ya'll want that).* I may be in Saint Augustine some Tuesdays, too. So wouldn't mind meeting, then. -- Not asking for main meetups there, but know I've seen 3 people from Saint Johns County on websites. Hi BigDaveJag ( if they're lurking, FMD's Sunni, Todd ).
Didn't seem that the Wednesday meetup was good for people. If prefer sooner than December, let's also try another day. --As it's going to get busier closer to the holiday season, maybe this Sunday is when it would be a good time. I had to wait to check with the manager at this location, too. I'm going to leave the other December meetup there (not cancel), as some people already thought that one was planned and not recheck. And, perhaps lurkers who wouldn't get this email, maybe they'd show for that one, only.
No ConGo? This is the weekend Creation has the Farscape Burbank Convention. I didn't get to go either, let's commiserate! Last year, someone posted from the auditorium in Burbank, if they do this year we could check. This meetup is at a cyber cafe with computer rental The Docking Station.
They also have a Wide Screen TV (32 inch I think). They say we can play our Farscape DVDs on it. (I have season 1 and willing to bring them.) They serve simple sandwiches, sodas, perhaps cheesecake, and candy if I recall correctly. Any one have Season 2, (hint - hint)? There are only fees for computer usage (small charge), but we should support them and buy refreshments/ snacks. If anyone has to check on their Football teams, there is that sportsbar just next door.
The Docking Station website is http://www.dscybercafe.com They are on Monument Road (if travelling north from Regency Square, it's just past the 9-A underpass, on the right in a shopping strip with a Sports Bar and Pizza place. There is a traffic light on the corner..
-- This is getting way too long, so ending this here. Let's hear from you! And hope to meet with you, Sunday!
* I'll go to that December First Wednesday, too, just to welcome Newbies left out of the loop.

Barnes and Noble on Atlantic for Jax's Meetup tonight. There may be changes for next meetup.. We were trying one mid-month on a Sunday, want to see when it's best for people. These days aren't set in stone, either.
Let us know when you'd like to meetup.

This is an alternative meeting that has been offered for Jacksonville next weekend (8 days from this posting). Spoke with Josh at Docking Station cybercafe to confirm if okay. (I think it was mentioned earlier in this thread that we have permission to play DVDs on his widescreen there.) If you're interested please send me a message as this may be the last month I'll use the Meetup site. Site/addresses: farscape.meetup.com and dscybercafe.com
Thanks!

I know this is an old thread, but I'm new here so I felt I should respond. I live just south of Jacksonville, near the Orange Park area. I never thought I'd hear of another Farscape fan in the Jacksonville area.

Hey out there, I know this is an old thread, but I just moved to Jacksonville last month from Pennsylvania. I'm actually on the border of Jax and Orange Park, and I'm just looking to locate some Scapers in the area. I don't really know anyone around here, so I figured some info from a Scaper or two would be a good thing. Anyone with any tips on the area like whats fun to do around here would be appreciated. Thanks.
