A few rally coordinators have come to me ask for help with publicizing the "5th of Farscape Global rally. I looked around on all the sites and I have not seen that many "official documents on the rally" Do any exist? Is there a formal announcement? Is there a calendar of all the rallies?

This is a great event that lots of newspapers and TV stations will want to cover, but we have to notify them now - before their deadlines!

I decided to create a media Advisory template that can be tailored to any Save Farscape rally in any city. I will also create an international version for anyone talking to international/ national media.

If you are coordinating a rally in your city and would like me to put together a media advisory for you or be included in the global announcement that I am creating. Please send me the following information as soon as you can as we should be hitting them now if we want October 5th coverage.

Date of Rally
City of Rally
Coordinator (s) Names and email
Name and Address of Starting Location:
Game Plan: (Your route, activities, and the times your will be be at various locations.)
Purpose & Goals of your rally:
Name of your group: if applicable:
A contact phone - the media will not take your announcement seriously, if they can not reach you by phone
Are photos available - is someone taking pictures?

Thanks,

Tracey L. Minor

"A Fifth of Farscape", the global rally weekend, is organised by SaveFarscapeCentral -- they should have the information you're looking for, and anything you do should be run past them as it's their event. Alternately, check with the individual rally organisers in each city. They should all be listed on the savefarscapecentral.com website.

I think you misunderstood. They have asked me for help. I'm not working on anything that was not requested. I am not sending out anything. They are doing their own publicity. I am helping them.

However, when they go to the press and tell them it is a national effort, they do not have the materials or information that is being requested.

I have been to the site, but it does not have contact information , locations, etc for all of the events. The information is incomplete and in a blog format. I also did not see an official formal announcement or press release that they could distribute. But, It has been a while since I was there, maybe it is up now or mabe I looked in the wrong location. I will go back.

I hope this addresses your concerns.

If not, who should I get permission to put together materials for local leaders other than the local leaders themselves?

If the local leaders are asked about the national initaitive and any materials, what should local leaders give them? If it has already been done, then it does not make sense for me to do it again.

You asked for information, I told you where you'd be most likely to find it. You weren't accused of doing anything wrong.

Unfortunate, that. Have you tried emailing Barbarella directly, and see if she can get you a list? Alternately, I know they do have an announcement/rally mailing list, and that would be a good place for this request as all the rally organisers would be signed up to it.

Also talk to Trent, our rally team co-ordinator here. Though he's mostly concerned with the NY rallies, he might have a more comprehensive list.

Last, if you can't find a list already compiled, you should be able to compile one yourself from board entries and SFA posts advertising rallies. I've seen many go through and they are complete with contact details.

I think it's best to email Barbarella with your materials as well because they are the main organisers and may have further information/corrections for one, and two, your ideas are very good, and she might want you to be the official media co-ordinator for the rally if they don't already have one. Even if she doesn't answer, then fine, you've tried and no toes have been stepped on.

I can't see why you can't do both, let Barbarella know what you want to do, and start working directly with the local organisers who have asked you for help. We're all autonomous out here, but it doesn't hurt to be politic as well.

And yes, it would be good to know that you're not repeating work, but if the locals are coming and asking for your help, that's probably a fair indication you're not.
