Hey guys, don't know if this is the right place to post this, so I'm sorry if it should be somewhere else. :P

I'm a newbie who just finished watching the whole series, and I want to buy the DVDs now so I can listen to the commentary. I'd be buying the U.S. editions, but I've heard that there is different commentary on the Starburst Editions vs. the Complete Season versions.

I'm having trouble figuring out exactly what is on each version, as far as commentary is concerned. Does anyone know what commentaries are on what, or where I can find that info? B/c the DVDs are so expensive, and I want to make sure I'm getting the right one. :P

I'm especially interested in commentaries with Ben Browder and Claudia Black, or those with a lot of different people commenting at once.

Thanks!!

Assuming that you're in the US, the Starburst editions contain everything the regular season collections do, plus the Starbursts have additional content.

Here (http://starburstcards.com/KarlswebNewscape//DVD_Summary.htm) is a chart showing which commentaries are available with which collections for all regions.

stlscape gave you the best link - that lays out the difference between the different versions, the different regions and what commentaries you get with each.

I do recommend the Starburst Editions (there are 12 for the four seasons) and not just because they are cheaper. Especially since they have the most Ben and Claudia commentaires. But unfortunately it is really hard to Season One in the Starburst Editions. And that season has some of the best commentaries. The commentaries for "Jeremiah Crichton" for instance, "When bad things happen to good shows" is worth the money for the entire season alone.

However, Season 2, 3 and 4 in the Starburst Editions are easily available - as is PK Wars.

You might have to keep an eye on e-bay to track down Season One.

Good luck! And welcome to Crack TV! The first hit is free. ;)

Thanks tons!! Well, after checking out all the info, I went on ebay and managed to find someone selling all twelve of the region 1 Starburst Editions. :D :D I couldn't believe it! (I hope it's not too good to be true.) But I've won them now, so hopefully I'll soon get to see all the extras. And rewatch everything, naturally.

Thanks again! :D

They're heeeeeeere!!!! :D :D I had a bit of a heart attack, b/c they arrived extremely late. But they are here now, and I have listened to much awesome commentary and started rewatching season one. *sigh* I'm going to skip ahead a bit and listen to the commentary on "Jeremiah Crichton," b/c I've heard so much about it. Hehe.

Why is season 1 so hard to find? :( I'd like to have the series on DVD, but only 2-4 seem to be in print :(

ADV Films no longer has the copyright to Season 1 and so it is out of print. Sony has acquired the rights to Season 1 (and are planning - or so we are told - to get the rights to Seasons 2, 3 and 4) but they haven't done anything with them.

So some good advice would be to buy Starburst Editions of Seasons 2, 3 and 4 from ADV while you can, and look for Season 1 (in any version) on eBay.

We don't know how long it will be before Sony re-releases Farscape, and even then we don't know if their version will be anything like as good as ADV's Starburst Editions. They could be just bare bones.

You can buy Farscape (all four seasons) on iTunes - but only the episodes, none of the extras.

If you have a multi-region DVD player, you can buy Region 2 Farscape DVDs for all Seasons. And if you are going that route, I highly recommend buying Region 2 "Farscape, The Peacekeeper Wars". It is far better than the Region 1 version.

Hope that helps. :)

By the way, here is a web page explaining the various DVD versions and regions available. Understanding Farscape DVDs (http://www.farscapecanada.com/what_dvd_explanation.shtml). This might help also.

season 1 was my favorite so it just seems weird to buy the later seasons. this is really unfortunate, I hope that sony or whoever releases a complete series box eventually.

Well Farscape (1999 TVseries) [Blu-ray] (1999) (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00198X0VI) just appeared on Amazon.com.

It isn't available yet - but you can sign up for notification when it becomes available.

I believe Sony releases Blu-Ray Discs, do they not?

TJ did you ask MGM about season 1 after Sony replied to you?
and if so, did you get a response?

also you can buy the entire series in starburst edition here

http://www.exyte.com/

it's a high price because of season 1

see that they sell seasons 2-4 bundle from 175$
and the entire series for 440$

Yeah I saw. $260 for season 1 is absurd. I realize its a collectible, but still---they don't even say if its the 4 disc version or the earlier double sided. (I don't think) And No MGM/FoxHome did not respond.

What a BARGAIN.

I bought FARSCAPE first editions, each series was issued as 5 two disk volumes, or twenty times £19.95 although some or more may have cost £24.95, so they cost a minimum £400 that's probably $800 at least.

Yep.

Each of the original box sets originally cost ~$200.00. Which works out to $800.00. And they sold enough of those original box sets that ADV set to work to make the Starburst Editions - with tons more extras, more compact format and much cheaper.

Considering that Season 1 is out of print - $260.00 is a bargain.

And apparently, ADV has ceased production of Seasons 2, 3 and 4 - which means that THOSE prices are about to spiral up too. Get 'em while you can. :)

I have just seen on amazon that I could now get all 4 seasons of farscape and PKW for only £129.95.

If I didn't already own the full set, I would have saved a fortune! in fact I am tempted to buy them just for the saving!

That is the Region 2 version. Excellent quality. Excellent value. I am tempted myself. :)

But for those who want the Region 1 version - Season 1 is still out of print, Season 2, 3 and 4 are going to become scarce very soon.
