View Full Version : New Farscape fans?
Since Farscape went off the air after the end of the Peacekeeper Wars, I've found that more and more people have been discovering Farscape in re-runs or after hearing about it on the web. I've lent my dvds (all four seasons, plus The PK Wars) out to a few friends over the last couple of years and and now I'm getting more people asking about it thanks to the news of the upcoming webisodes. One of the cool things is that a buddy of mine would borrow the DVDs and then his girlfriend would start watching them and she'd really get into the show too.
Is the Farscape audience expanding/growing at this point? Is it dying off? It seems to be more of the first from what I can tell, but this is only limited but my interactions here in my area.
Wondering if the rest of you have noticed an increase in the number of Farscape fans, and if you are relatively new to the series, when did you first get introduced to it and how?

I started watching the Farscape within the past few months on a local TV station. I don't even have cable. Within the past week I ended up buying the entire series minus the peacekeeper wars. Considering what a great show it is, I think the audience will probably expand. I can see farscape being a classic decades from now.

I had watched a few episodes years back of farscape but thought they were cheesy and I was not interested. Until a co-worker of mine insisted I watch it because he knew how much I love Science Fiction. So about 2 weeks ago I found out that my friend had all 4 seasons + PKW so I have since watched it all. Now I am in the process of saving up enough money to buy all the Starburst DVD editions. I am currently trying to get my family to watch it, but I doubt I will be able to do that until I get the DVD's, but once I do I know they will be hooked.
So you be the judge on if you think its still expanding on its own popularity still.

I think its prob expanding in the USA, however in the UK it has not been on free to view TV in years!
I think the newbies to Farscape, should register to watch farscape and tell us what they think! it takes seconds to register, be heard!

yeah, I think the fan base has expanded. A new blog went up recently: The Alien Next Door (http://sfgirl-thealiennextdoor.blogspot.com/2007/09/scapecast-farscape-lives.html). Read the comments afterwards. Warms me old frozen 'Scaper heart they do. ;)
great link, Nicola! nice that she noted the ScapeCast! you and the rest of the contingent should be real proud for helping out Farscape so much and providing entertaining content for those of us who are already on board.

Warms your heart,eh? I read the page(s) and every hair on my body stood up. Again. Like it does when writers are able to express what our lives have been turned into because of Farscape.
Oh, to be able to watch from the very beginning for the first time again. To savor each of the 88 episodes. To experience it all fresh and new.
It doesn't matter. Just re-watch and I catch every nuance I missed the first two times. Farscape is not just a show,or an episode. I has become my life.
I has become my life.
that is one HECK of a typo! lot's of interesting subtext...
if you are now your life, what were you before? what will you eventually become? hmmm......

I think by the nature of the series, the audience will always expand, if slowly because watching it makes you want to tell more people about how good it is and it very often converts whomever so you show it to so...star trek effect?

I've been pondering that myself. It could have been the passionate ferver of a moment on the keys, but if you read it simply, and not as in every breath I take,I believe I mostly was referring to the undying hope I found to use in many aspects and have in many moments of despair, that became my life.
What was I before? A searcher. What will I eventually become? Rarely do people REALLY change. You should know that. A searcher who hopes alot. How's that?
And a musician, artist, collector of fine and rare antique toys, books and huge vintage speaker systems that will blow you to kingdom come, and pianos,Hammond B3 Organs and Leslie speakers ,the 122 variety.
Raccoon and squirrel feeder. Any hungry animal or person feeder. With hope.

I'm pleased to say that I'm one of those who started watching after PKW, with the syndication, in fact.
I watched my first episode two years ago as FarScape was just beginning its syndication run. I found my mom watching Stargate: Atlantis and was delighted to see that it was running on a channel that I got. When it was over, I checked the broadcast schedule to find what time SG1 came on, having heard a lot of good things about it.
In addition to SGA and SG1, I discovered that FarScape was also scheduled to come on. Now, previously, I've seen FS tapes and DVDs in the stores. I had been curious about it, but wasn't sure if I wanted to spend money for something that looked so strange (Pilot and Rygel). I wasn't even aware that it had been on for four years.
But, when I found out that it was going to be on, I decided to check it out. I caught the very first episode. And, I'm glad I did.
:)
Nice blog link, thanks! It's always thrilling to hear about new people discovering Farscape. Yes, it will be bigger than Star Trek. Just wait.
