Recoil

Perhaps I missed this somewhere in the series, or perhaps it was never fully answered, so I'm asking everyone here if they know the answer to this.
We saw in Season 3 that Peacekeepers and scientists were "liquefying" when going through an unstable wormhole in their Prowlers. An initial plot hole would have been "well if that is happening to them, how did Crichton survive?" except that very point was brought up at the end of Season 3.
In the "Lions Den" two-parter, John said he had a theory as to how he could survive in a primitive Earth module. Later in Season 4, when he is on Earth, he asked DK to look into metallics in regards to his module as well. I believe this was also looking into why he could survive when others could not.
Was it ever revealed as to why Crichton survived worm hole travel in his module, when Prowlers with phase shielding could not?
Was it ever revealed as to how the crew of Moya did as well? Or did they just travel through stable wormholes?
