Hey guys :D, Surely there are more than three of us. I'm in Rocky Mount but I've lived in both Chapel Hill and Charlotte. I get to Chapel Hill fairly frequently. I'm a horse trainer and I have some students there. One of my current requirements for anyone coming into my barn is they have to watch some Farscape :) They already think I'm insane, I have a TV/VCR at the barn.

Hey all. :hi: I'm up for something but I need time to organize for it if it's further away than Raleigh. I have a Kid, horses and my husband is a Doc so I have to work around many schedules.
I saw some people posting on this board before who are east of me. Greenville and the coast I think.

Hi!
I'm in Winston Salem, would love to do something locally to get more folks watching in January.
We ought to be able to play on the angle of being Ben Browder's home state!
I just started a thread inviting folks to a farscape friday viewing and discussion. Every week we watch our tapes of an episode then meet at the Dom bulletin board to discuss. This week it's Crackers Don't Matter, tonight (friday) at 10. Watch your tape, then meet at the Dom. Hope you can come!

There seem to be a lot of Scapers in the Triad. Anyone know of any sci-fi cons or events in the area anytime soon. I know Stellar Con is in March, right? Maybe that would be a good way to meet and spread the word.
shipsister
10-13-2002, 10:02 PM
I'm not familiar with that. Where is it usually held? I went to a con several years ago in High Point; the actor who played Marcus on B5 was there; was that Stellercon? I had not heard anything about it in the last couple of years.
While it would be great to meet in March, if we are going to do anything to increase the numbers for January, we probably need to start planning now. I don't think we need to meet to do that, as long as we can communicate over the internet.
It's good to hear that there are a lot of scapers in this area, but I don't know many of them. Maybe I need to do some investigating!
Thanks!

StellarCon will be March 14-16 in 2003. It is run by the Science Fiction Fantasy Federation and UNC-Greensboro. It will be held at the Radisson in High Point, NC. They say they average 500 people attending. I didn't see any actors listed as guests. Mostly sci fi writers. Honestly, I haven't attended in years. The last few years, something else always came up. I remember it as being a more social and fan based con. I believe this will be its 27th year. They will also have gaming, so I'm looking forward to a little Farscape RPG while I'm there.

I'm in Charlotte, home of the John Boy and Billy show. I've been thinking about sending them breakfast, with a write up on Farscape and a couple of video tapes. I figure with Browder being from here and Rygels helium farts, they may have some interest. John Boy always seems interested in Star Trek. He loves to mention the Klingons around Uranus. I'm not good at writing this stuff, but what do y'all think. I've also considered the Matt and Ramona show. I think Matt and PZ might have an interest too.

I put up a post on the front page... duh... should'a just checked the next. :)
Anywho, I'm a Fayetteville newbie (Alaska transplant), have finally gotten settled into my new home, and am ready to get into the campaign swing again.
I'm interested in helping with the planning, development, and implementation of local strategy plans, as well as working with national efforts.
The Raleigh area - Raleigh-Durham(Fayetvlle) - is one of the 55 electronically metered Neilsen markets (ranked 29 out of 55), so there's a chance of having an impact if we work together.
Anyone else interested? Feel free to drop me a line at jenNOSPAM@orchidcactus.us (remove the NOSPAM :) )

Welcome to NC, Orchidcactus!
I'm interested in getting something going locally, too, (I'm in
Winston Salem) although I've thought mainly about the Charlotte area, since that is Ben's hometown. It seems like a natural, plus I would assume it's a pretty large market also. But I'm willing to go with what most folks think is best. I do think we need to get started, as time is growing short - obviously!
I'll email you, but I'm hoping others who want to get things going will post so we can start generating ideas and moving forward.

Hi, everyone.
I'm from Charlotte. Let me know if there's anything I can help out with.
Maybe we can do something on opening nights of the Star Trek movie and LOTR... flyers possibly? Maybe even bribe the movie theaters to show the Farscape fan commercial before the movies (although I have no idea how much that would cost).
Anyway, please share any ideas you may have!

Drenn...I keep forgetting to check in on this board to see what is going on in NC. With most schools back in session, I'm planning to do up a new flyer for posting. More positive than Save Farscape. I want it to be more "Watch The Best Television There Is!" with links listed to good newbie sites. Most of the cities we've mentioned have colleges located in them. I'm going to see how much an ad in a college paper costs.
Sadly, StellarCon in March is the earliest scifi con I know of in NC. Maybe too late to attract new members to help our ratings, but one of SFCs many complaints was the lack of growth of the fanbase. A continued growth in fanbase will help us look good to another network.
Does anyone else have any suggestions we could all work on here in NC.
BTW...nc_Chuck, welcome to the group. Saw your post on the pulse pistol. Sorry I don't have the tapes your missing, but there are several marketing research groups in the Charlotte area who pay $40-$125 for your opinion if you match their demographics. It could cover the cost of the tapes you need.
Hey, everybody!

Hi all; it's good to know there are fellow scapers so close! Some of us had loosely organized to do something to get viewers for tonight's ep, but I think the holidays and real life got in our way. But there is still plenty to do to get viewers to come and stay for the rest of the eps, so let's keep in touch and see what we can come up with!
Orchidcactus had done a lot of work to start a website and create a yahoo group for us. I haven't heard from her lately, but that will be one way we can communicate with each other as we make plans.
I need to go get ready to watch Kansas now (!!!!); I'll come back later with the website address and the info on how to join the yahoo group.

Also, if anyone is planning to go to Dragon*Con in Atlanta on Labor Day weekend, lemme know. I have a fan table reserved and I would appreciate any help manning it. High Point, NC here, and YES, I found the Farscape meetup site, but it always ends up getting cancelled because there aren't enough folks in the area. C'mon!! They only need 5!! NC Scapers unite!! Or not.
I'm not an NC native, and I've only been here for about a year - what better way to meet people than thru efforts to save our favorite show?
I know that High Point recently hosted "Phenomicon", but I couldn't find ANY information at all online. Could someone tell me where Stellarcon is going to be? I hadn't heard of that one yet, and since I probably won't make it to Chicago or Burbank for the Scapercons, I figure something local would the next best thing, right?

Well poop, BJ. You just missed Heroes Con here in Charlotte. Phenomicon is one I don't think I have ever heard of. StellarCon won't be till next March. As far as Meetups.com goes, I am in the same boat with you. We can't seem to get 5 people in Charlotte either. But, if you don't mind the drive, Dragon*Con will be in Atlanta, Labor Day weekend. That is where I'll be. :) Any chance you could do that con?

As far as actually attending... Whoo. Lemme see. I'm gonna have to get back to you on that one. I got a significant other that works like Bannac slave hours, and whole pile of kids to wrangle. Hey, the planets have aligned correctly before. I'll see what I can do. After all, I've got until Labor Day to blackmail...errr...I mean, PERSUADE someone to babysit, right?
I never saw jack about HeroesCon, but I've had the hardest time finding info on local happenings (i.e. concerts, festivals, etc.) so I'm not surprised I missed it. Was it fun? :rollin:
I actually haven't even attended a single con since TennCon '98, so I guess I'm long overdue. Keep me updated on the local goings-on, would you? I just know I'm going to miss something fun over here in our neck of the woods...

Define other sci-fi or gaming stuff. I do play games online and you can find me at the Relic Entertainment forum quite often as I am a moderator there. If your not sure who Relic Entertainment is you might remember the game Homeworld or Impossible Creatures as that is two of their products at the moment. I also play IL-2 a lot and you might see me on Ubi-Softs forums although it's usually just the paint scheme forums.

I was curious. I use to do Star Trek CCG, Lord of the Rings, MechWarrior, L5R and such at Heroes and Skirmishes, but the group has kind of fallen apart and split up. I also know there is a sci-fi group at UNCC who I think do RPG. Me, I'm all the way down into Indian Trail. :) Merlin's is closer to me now. I don't do online gaming cause I like to cheat too much since I'm so bad at it. :D

Haven't checked here in a while! We need to get together, but I guess we all know that? I know two of us in the Raleigh Durham area. Anyone else?
I've been thinking about something to help with the campaign. I was trained as a potter but haven't worked for the better part of 10 years while my son was little. The last year I've been working a bit. Mainly on stuff for Roswell charities {no one gag, I loved Roswell} anyways. I've made them several thousand dollars.
I've been thinking of shifting to help Farscape. What y'all think? Would you like to see Moya and DRD mugs?
Here’s an idea of my work. Click the link. Please note this is not self promotion. I do not sell this work. I’m trying to gage interest. These are handmade pieces and quite pricy both in time and materials. I donate EVERYTHING but I want it worth my time. For a piece to be worth my time I need for them to bring at least $50 for the mugs. Quite a bit more for a Vase. They are all totally handmade, stoneware or porcelain, dishwasher and microwave safe.

What if you made some pieces for one of the cons, and they were used as a "raffle" prize (you know, $2 a ticket or some such, with a minimum amount indicated that must be collected)?
I've never been to a con, so don't know anything about the "rules". Does anyone know if raffles are permitted?
I'm on the coast, Kill Devil Hills, by the way.

Thanks for the response. Yeah, was thinking a raffle type thing maybe after a ebay auction once people see a few and get to know what I do. I've made like $3000 for Roswell this year.
DRD 2001~ Can't get it done by Labor day. Takes roughly 2 weeks to fill my smallest kiln. That's working hard. I'm going to start the Farscape stuff this weekend. As I said I need some really good pics.
I had wanted to get something in any basket going to the Henson's for Aug 1 but we've been in and out of the country {Canada and UK} and I didn't get it done. :( Thanks for the support, it helps get me off my butt.
Are they're any good graphics on the DVD's? I have everything that's out but haven't looked thru the graphic parts. If someone knows that would save me hunting.

Dragon*Con will allow us to do raffles. Already Selena is busy creating some beautiful items too. A mug or vase raffled off would serve 2 purposes. 1. Raise money and 2. advertise your wonderful work for a number of good causes. I told Ammit I wasn't eager to sell at D*C, mainly because I didn't want to have to keep track of a bunch of merchandise, but I have no problem with keeping track of a few items for the raffle.
BTW vinity, your Roswell mug could also double as a Lord of the Rings mug, the white hand is a symbol of Isengard.

If that will be easier for you. I know how it is. I can draw, but only when I get hit with just the right mood. Unfortunately those moods have been coming few and far between.
I wish I could go and see the Art on top of the Farscape stuff. The art show is great. Very fan friendly. They always have professional work displayed, but they also have some work that is...not as professional. Your work would definately be unique. Most of the art is 2D, barring a few others. I don't remember any ceramics, other than a few face masks. BTW, I know for a fact that at least one of the artists in the Graphics forum will be displaying his work.

Vinity, you need to enter the art show next year. Not to be mean, but some of the art there was...not good. Although there was one woman there with some gorgeous pottery, most everything else was 2D.
Costumes, or lack thereof, were amazing. There was an excellent Boromir, Gandalf and Strider at the con. And the originality of costumes is always amazing.

Vinity, you can display your pottery with a mimimum bid listed and a quick buy bid listed. You don't have to man a booth or table all weekendin the art show. That way, you can get away to enjoy the con.
Riot Chik, if I could be a Starfleet member in Rock Hill, I see no reason why you can't enjoy the best of both states too. I'm always in Fort Mill to buy lottery tickets anyway. :lol
So, it everybody interested in getting together for StellarCon in March?

DRD2001~ So have you recovered?
Thanks for the info on the gig. That would be much easier on me. I'm all for trying to go to Stellarcon. March is good :D Gives me time to break it to my family.
Well, I made it thru Black Friday better then I thought. I woke up with that nagging feeling something was wrong but you can place just what? Then it hit me halfway to driving my kid to school :( I stayed buzy all day. I just got a tractor for the farm and my pastures were really in need of mowing. I had planned to work in the studio and watch The final eps but I figured I'd loose it :(

What kind of info? The link I provided has all their current 2004 info. Fred Saberhagen is to be guest of honor. I think, like most fan run cons, many things will not be announced until we get closer to con time. Right now, there is still 5 months to go. Even Dragon*Con didn't do schedules until like 2 weeks before. You can also e-mail the directors of the con if you need something more specific. :)

We did OK. Got the eye over us around 5. Worked like frell getting the horses tucked away. They did good! We had 65 MPH sustained winds, gust worse, glad it wasn't worse. Blew a mess of shingles off. Roof is leaking like everything, but I'm pretty happy.

Hi, guys---I'm ok. Couldn't get to the internet till today.
I decided, at the last minute, to leave Kill Devil Hills. I was ready to stay, had stocked up with food, water, batteries and so forth, and wasn't too worried about my house, which is on very high ground (on an actual, really big hill), but on Tuesday, I started thinking about the possibility of days without electricity or running water, and not being able to leave the neighborhood--which, while it is on high ground, access to it is low and likely to be flooded, and there are also lots of trees around. And also how worried my family and friends would be, especially if the phones went out, so on Wednesday, I quickly packed up me and my two kitties and left in the afternoon, just as the rain started on the Banks. I'm staying with my daughter in Greensboro (hi, Silk).
As you know, we even got the heavy rain & wind here for a little while yesterday. What a contrast today. I haven't yet talked directly to any of my neighbors who stayed behind, but indirect information leads me to believe my neighborhood came through ok. The friends I have heard from who stayed are all ok. But others weren't so lucky. The "beach" road all the way from Kitty Hawk south thru Hatteras really is a "beach" now. I've heard there are new inlets that opened up on Hatteras Is. & Ocracoke, completely washing away parts of NC 12. Many houses in Hatteras Village fell into sinkholes, and a lot of the houses that should never have been built on the beach in Kitty Hawk are gone now. One of my daughter's roommates has family in Elizabeth City. They had a tree crash through a skylight in a sunroom, but everyone is ok.
When I checked in this morning with my work (I work for the NPS, Cape Hatteras NS), I was told that everything is still closed, of course. There is a county-wide curfew in place through at least noon tomorrow. No Dare County residents who stayed through the storm are supposed to leave their homes, and everyone is being told to limit water use and boil all water because of the broken lines. Those who evacuated will not be allowed back in before tomorrow noon at the earliest, so I'm still "on hold" here.
Maybe I'll get to go back tomorrow or Sunday, I'll keep you posted when I can. I hope everyone's ok.

I got back to Kill Devil Hills this afternoon and everything at my house and in my neighborhood is fine, just a lot of debris (tree branches & limbs) to clean up. We have power and water. I haven't had a chance to see much of what happened elsewhere firsthand yet--buildings I passed on the main roads looked in good shape, though there were a lot of trees down. I know there's a lot of damage further south, but I haven't heard of any loss of life. It also sounds like things are worse in Virginia.

I can't go either. It would be so easy too, cause my mom is at Wrightsville Beach. But Oct is a busy month for me. 2 Scottish festivals and a spay clinic plus Halloween doesn't give me a lot of free time. Hopefully next year will be a go.
What makes it worse is that the week after the convention is my school's fall break, so three of my friends and I are all going out to the beach-about five minutes away from Wilmington.

Just got power back. Still no water and its a miracle we have a phone. We were hit really hard by the Northeast corner of Isabel. I'm in Edenton (Chowan Co.) and its devastation. Winds sustained at 90mph with 105mph gusts for four hours! Our house held up remarkably well, just minor damage. Others weren't as fortunate.
7% of the homes here are destroyed with 75% or more damage. 26% have between 10 and 50% damage. A ten foot tidal surge knocked 200 year old houses off their foundations and flooded businesses downtown. The roof collapsed at my husband's workplace and I don't know if he still has a job to go back to because of the damage. There is so much destruction here it is miraculous that more people didn't die- only two we've heard of. They still haven't gotten to all parts of the county yet to access the damage. My family and I are fine, but this town will be in a long recovery process.
I've been in an emotional daze ever since it happened. So many people are having a hard time just getting neccessities of life, like water, food and shelter. Many volunteers are working their butts off for us here. Only 50% of us have power at all. Schools are closed until further notice. Lots of people have lost everything. My brother in law lives in Kitty Hawk and he says we got it worse here then they did.
Keep us in your thoughts.

Jaxa (Lisa), so glad to hear from you and that you are ok. I am in Kill Devil Hills. I evacuated for 4 days, came back Sunday. My house is fine and I thought I was too, but it is really starting to hit me now. I'm finding out that a lot of people I know had property damage, and the whole Outer Banks is a little bit in shock. I'm beginning to realize the true impact.
One of these days, when I have a little more energy, I want to start a thread to see how other 'scapers fared (if someone doesn't beat me to it). I'm betting a lot of folks north of us were, and still may be, without power.

Jayelsee- Thanks. I'm glad you evacuated. It was terrifying, esp. with the kids and all the noise outside. I know what you mean about the shock of it. Even though our damage was minimal, with the town so torn up its very upsetting. I don't think anyone has realized what the frell happened yet. I've never been so tired, mentally and physically.
Our area (including the beach) is such a disaster right now- its hard to come to grips with it. If you ever need to talk I'm here and I wouldn't mind a virtual shoulder to cry on when it all catches up to me either. Keep in touch and stay strong.

Thanks for the encouragement guys.
My boys are 8 and 12 and they have done surprisingly well. They have been bickering more than usual, but everyone's stressed out and they are bored. They've been real troopers and have even helped with the cleanup here and at Grandma's.
75% of people have power back now, still waiting on word about the water. But we have started slowly getting food back in the fridge.
No word on my husband's job yet and I've been out of work since last week too. I work at a preschool that is still without lights and phones.
Its nice to be able to talk with people on the outside since everything here seems so isolated and bleak right now. Thanks.
Have to go help Grandma tarp her roof now. More later. Please keep in touch.

To Jaxa Logan and all who were affected by Isabel......
I think those of us who came through it, either weathering the storm or leaving & then returning, are just beginning to realize the impact. As I said earlier, I know I was totally lucky to have no damage to property, but the emotional stress is just now really starting to hit. I work for the National Park Service, and Cape Hatteras was hit pretty hard. We have hundreds of (well maybe a hundred or more) people here from all over the country helping us get things put back together so we can open the park again, and everyone has been working so, so hard and for very long hours. I'm responsible for "closing" our fiscal year which is always a stressful time for me, but yesterday, I actually broke down in tears! at work! and that is NOT how I usually am.
So everyone who was affected, remember that your reactions to everything are amplified now, and be easy on yourself, forgive yourself for responses that are out of character.
Anybody needs a shoulder to cry on publicly or privately, I'm here (you can pm me if you want to). I may need a shoulder myself.
I'm glad all are doing well, and wish the best of luck in returning your places of residence to their former glories.
Vinity, you're welcome, but, unfortunately, I have not been able to access the page recently, that is, in the past three days, and I was wondering if it is down, and was also wondering how many commas I could put in this message, commas which are totally in bad grammar, and which I could do without, which create a run on, spliced, sentence, which, nonetheless, has every amount of character one can put into a horribly worded sentence, and in case any were wondering, just so they, or, being grammatically correct, he or she, would not have to count, there are twenty-three commas in this abomination of a "sentence."

Hello all you survivors in NC and elsewhere!
I'm still cleaning up the mess in my yard. Fortunately, debris from downed trees and LOTS of leaves were all I had to contend with. I evacuated with my 2 kitties to my daughter in Greensboro for 3 days, so I didn't have to deal with the fear of weathering the storm, but I worried from a distance about my friends, community, and my property.
I have been so busy and stressed at work, with cleanup efforts that are going on there, that I haven't been able to do as much as I should at home (big piles of branches & leaves in my yard & driveway I need to bag up and haul away). I'm actually just getting ready to head in to work today (Saturday, a "normal" day off).
How about you Virginia survivors, and those from other states? I know a lot of you lost power for days. When did you get it back again?

In case anyone has missed it, in Campaign Strategizing, divinedaydreams is holding a raffle to save a PMU Foal. These foals are born, just so they can die. Drug companies are only interested in the urine from the pregnant mares. It is DDD's hope that we can help rescue one of these foals. Of course, it would be given a Farscape name. Already a home for the foal has been found. It would go to a ranch and be trained to help with disabled children and physical therapy.
In order to raise money, we are holding a raffle. Included in this raffle is a 4.1 DVD. There will also be more wonderful items added each day, so please keep checking in. Or if you wish to donate generously a nice amount, you can bypass the raffle and just get all sorts of goodies. On display there now is a custom made Tic Tac Toe game that I made.

That was exactly my thoughts Jaxa Logan. Like I said, it might take some coordination with some of you guys who have been around awhile longer and she can only make a basic one right now, but I just bought her Macromedia Studio MX which has Dreamweaver, Flash, Fireworks, Freehand, and Cold Fusion. I also bought her Adobe CS, Illustrater CS, Adobe Dimensions, and a bunch more. She is taking a class on Dreamweaver now and she has already learned a little html/xhtml so even though she can only do a pretty basic webpage now, in the future, she might be able to do something a bit more elaborate.
So NC scapers, give me some feedback on what we want and need on our webpage, even if it's advanced stuff. She might not be able to do it now, but she'll learn. She loves this stuff and is eager to begin practicing!

Whoa! People posting
Hey Enforcer :bgb: A NC web page would be good! Where are you in the Mountains? I still have family in Morganton. My Mom and Sis are in Greensboro. I'm in Rocky Mount.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE!
I have pulled my back out picking up a piece of trash in the aisle of the barn and have been on pain killers for days. Nothing like an Oxycodon haze to ring in the new year
DRD 2001~ What's the deal this spring? Wasn't there something somewhere we were going to meet? I was supposed to be making mugs for?
I've the OK from Doc Vin to go to Burbank next fall :D Looks like Spook, the English girl who crashed us a while back will come over for it too. Who else from here is up for going?

Vinity,
I'm from Cullowhee, which is about an hour west of Asheville. My wife and I work at Western Carolina University. I'm getting ready to move to Fayetteville, though so I won't be too far from you.
My wife is really learning this webpage design pretty quickly so pretty soon she may start on the Carolina page.:D

Vinity, Burbank is so out of the question with me. I just don't have that kind of money. So I save what I can for Dragon*Con in Atlanta.
And StellarCon is the next big con in NC. March 19 - 21st, 2004
http://www.uncg.edu/student.groups/sf3/stellarcon.htm
Fred Saberhagen is the guest of honor.
Enforcer, it sounds like you are almost into TN. :) If your wife can do a web page, that would be awesome and would certainly be better than anything else we have right now. It doesn't have to be fancy, just informative.
Enforcer
01-03-2004, 05:08 PM
DRD2001, you are correct, I am almost in TN. In fact, there are more UT fans here than Carolina fans. My wife is going to start designing one. Is there already a webspace? If not, my wife can find some. Other than links to Save Farscape and info about the series and upcoming events (which I may need someone to keep me informed on), what other kind of information would ya'll like to see? She will begin the page and if anyone sees anything else you would like listed, let us know. As soon as it's done, I'll post a link to it.
DRD2001
01-03-2004, 05:52 PM
Well, there is a Yahoo group at:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/carolina_scapers/
I guess upcoming events like conventions, special days, meetups or other such events.
Info on projects, Farscape, costuming tips, letter writing suggestions or anything else that catches people's fancy. We can also all submit articles so she can change it and keep it fresh. But like I said, anything at this point would be great.
Enforcer

Right now it is just a shell of what it could be, so please be patient and send any suggestions you have. We will have a menu and other things up soon!

Hi, everyone, and welcome new members!
I just got back from a trip to Greensboro this weekend. Wish I could be there for the February 4 "meet up" there, but, alas, cannot this time. Anybody signed up for any of the meet ups in NC?
Yeah, Panthers!

Hey, jayelsee. Hope all is well.
Is anyone planning on going to the NC Renaissance Faire in Raleigh? Its the last weekend in March and the first weekend in April. I'll be there with some with my family and some friends from a local sci fi club I'm in, but not sure which weekend yet.

Welcome aboard Pagan. Glad you could join us!!
Sorry, jayelsee, I meant to give the addy and just forgot. Check out all the details at www.ncrenfaire.com. I've heard its a "small" faire, but 15,000 people were there last year and it only lasted one weekend! Admission is only $12 and costumes are encouraged. Sounds like a lot of fun. I've got a group of about 8 (so far) going with me. We're just hammering out details for which weekend is better for everyone. You can find hotel info on the site too. The hotels listed have special rates if you mention the faire and book before March 1.
So what do you think? An unofficial Farscape meetup at a Ren Faire?
And, Enforcer, do you need any help or anything with the website? Give us a shout if you do!

I would love to go to the rennaisance festival. I have family in the area so hopefully, I'll have the time off.
I didn't know about the "meet up" that is happening. How can I find out? This is the kind of thing I would like to have posted on the website my wife is building, the problem is that I don't know where to find some of this stuff. Would it be in the yahoo group?
Thanks

As for the meet up? are you talking the monthly thing? I sign up every month but not enough people in my area so it never works. I do think they have one in Raleigh but as it's on a tuesday nights that's too far for me to go on kid's school night. Even if Doc Vin made it home in time.
Hope everyone faired well in the snow. My horses are pissed! Kidlet is happy tho, he's gotten to sled for hours and hours!

:hi: Hi guys! We have added a few things to the website. Not much, yet. That's because we really have no clue what to put up there. We have some links and some pages set up but we don't know what we could put there. For example, we have a page set up for costuming tips, the only problem is that we have never "costumed." So if you guys have any ideas, please let us know. Also, if you have any ideas about graphics, that would be helpful. My wife went a little minimalist because you only get so much room in geocities. Maybe one day we would be able to afford our own domain. But for right now, this is what we have.
Thanks to everyone who has been there and offered encouragement.
One more thing, if you visit the site, please sign the guest book. My wife lives that kind of thing!

I don't know if we are going. We got the verdict yesterday on our house...TERMITES! So we are going to have to go over our budgets and stuff to see what we can afford. I'd like to do Dragon*Con, but it is pricey and the joys of being an adult is that you sometimes have to do the "right" thing and not the "fun" thing. :yuck:
I know I can't do the Renn Faire, as I have a cat show to do. We may end up doing ConCarolinas, as it is the least expensive and easiest con for us.

*** Update on ConCarolinas ***
I've talked to the staff, and they have us reserved for a fan table. If anyone wants to attend or volunteer, feel free to jump in and help. This is not a star oriented con like D*C. This con is more fan oriented and much more intimate, geared towards meeting people and having fun. I think that you will find the atmosphere to be very, very enjoyable.

DRD2001 I meant to say yesterday YIKES and sorry about the termites :( big bummer. What will they do?
DRD2001
04-03-2004, 07:44 AM
Oh, with the termites, they are going to drill holes through the concrete and pump poison under the house to kill them. Lots of $$$$ required. They offer a payment plan, but I really don't want another monthly bill over my head. Then, after that, we have to find a repair person to estimate potential damage and do any necessary repairs. More $$$$.
Remember everyone! Keep checking out the Carolina Scaper site and the yahoo group. Jayelsee is working on a great military project to send books to soldiers and upcoming information about ConCarolinas will be posted too, with project ideas and suggestions.

Greetings, all!
I haven't been around here for a long time, and it's good to see so much happening. I'm in Winston-Salem. I've tried to organize a meet-up for Greensboro a couple of times, but without success. If there are enough people in the area who are interested, maybe we can have one in May.

Fellow Carolinians (North & South), check on the ConCarolina and the Carolina scapers sites DRD2001 posted the links for, and sign up for the Yahoo Group. We're discussing ConCarolina in Charlotte (June) now. That could be a great "meet up" place.
DRD2001 signed us up for a fan table and is organizing that. I think if we had 10 people interested in attending as a "group" (that is, registering at the same time), we could get a group registration discount. If anyone's interested in that let me know here or at the Yahoo Group. I'll check on it.

If anyone is interested in arriving a day early or staying a day late, we could always spend a day at Paramount's Carowinds. They have a new coaster called the Borg Assimilator.
http://www.carowinds.com/
Carowinds also has a waterpark inside the amusement park, which features a wave pool, lazy river, various pipeline slides, splash areas and more. The one really nice feature about WaterWorks is the planning for children of all ages. Children 2 and under have a private roped off area, so they don't get trampled by older kids, and the older kids have their own spash and squirt zone.
jayelsee
04-09-2004, 05:57 AM
Carowinds sounds like fun, DRD2001. I'll see about getting that extra day off from work & let you know here, when I can. Pretty flexible about the day, so if anyone else has a preference it doesn't matter to me.
Shipsister, are you going to be able to go to the con? If you are, and you want to register with me, DRD2001 & her hubby, let me know. If we get 10 people who can register together, we can get the discount ($5 off the $25 fee). We need to mail the registration fee as one payment, by May 15....I've volunteered to do that if we can get 10 people, so let me know.
I'll wait a bit, and will probably put a deadline of around May 1 for the "group" thing, so if we don't get 10 people everyone will still have time to register themselves.

I'm a newby. Got splendidly hooked on the series when the DVDs were released--I'm currently in mid-season three (Zhann just died, boo hoo). Believe it or not, I never watched the show on SCI-FI channel, but in a way, it's been very nice to watch an episode at a time on my time, which is pretty limited.
I've been a huge fan of Henson, muppets, fantasy, Labyrinth, etc. for years and it's been an absolute joy getting hooked on Farscape. I can't wait to see the mini-series.

Welcome D'elvis! :hi:
Right now, I don't think there are any plans for getting together for the mini premiere. Unfortunately, we seem a little too spead out for one get together. But I think you're in luck, cause I think that the most Scapers are in your area. Check out Meetups.com for Farscape fans in your city. Also, if you can make it down to Charlotte June 4-6, a few of us will be at ConCarolinas. :aok:

Welcome D'elvis! I will most likely be moving to your area in June or July. I will start a new job at NC State. So I would be up for a meetup when I get there. I am currently in the mountains at Western Carolina University. This is a great group supporting a great show.

Welcome, D'elvis! Join us at ConCarolinas in June!
In case anybody didn't get the word (shipsister, DRD2001), I didn't get enough people who wanted to sign up as a group to make the 10, so be sure and register yourselves. I registered on Sunday, and also made my hotel reservations (for the Mariott. They still had the Con block rate available).

Carl Welcome! We're close, I'm in Rocky Mount. I can host a Mini get together. We have lots of room and a big screen TV. Farscape is cool big.

No fair! I want a big TV! :(
Just kidding. :) My husband however...
OK peoples, we are 4 weeks away from ConCarolinas. I've got some more pics posted in the convention forum. Lots of PK style stickers as give aways. Badges are coming along fine. If anyone has freebie swag to donate, let me know. We've had several offers so far. :) I've got a nice book collection going for the charity. Still pondering ideas for the charity auction, like what would be a good item to donate?

Ok, I'm all signed up for ConCarolinas & have my hotel reservation. Who is going?
DRD2001, I have some Farscape trading cards I can donate for 'swag'. I plan to try and turn them into refrigerator magnates, if I have time after I finish with Rygel. I also have some old cd's that I am going to try and cover with mycattoldme's "Farscape" cd flier, but not sure if I'll get those done by June.
I can print copies of Red's convention flier to hand out (how many should I print?)
Am trying to think of something for the charity auction. I don't have any "general" sci fi stuff I could donate, but I do have a couple of extra "Best of Season 1 Farscape" and a brand new copy of the Role Playing Game book (hard back, lots of neat pictures, retails at $34.95) if those would be something worth considering.
I'm bringing a bunch of books for the charity auction. Am also brining my laptop, which now has a dvd player! (and I will have all my Farscape dvds with me, of course). And as I mentioned--somewhere, sometime--I have a bunch of Farscape music videos loaded on it.
Rygel is making progress. I just read somewhere that the 'real' Rygel "stands at just 26" high (if he stands, which he rarely does"). Don't know if that's accurate (he looks taller to me), but if it is, then quite by accident, I have made him almost exactly that height! Seated, he's about 21 inches, with his legs adding another 5 or 6 inches!

I really would like to go and I am going to try, but I will be moving to Raleigh in the next month and I have no idea what my schedule will be like. I would also like to do the meetup for the mini! That sounds excellent.

Hope you can make it to the con, Enforcer!
Maybe by the time the mini airs, we can have a "meet up" place set that some of us can make it to.
Edited to add, Raleigh and Greensboro are both pretty good places for me -- I like to visit "the big cities" every now & then, and I know people who live there. It just depends on when the mini airs, and what else is going on in "real life" at the time.

Ditto what jayelsee says. :D
Right now, I'm expecting from Sept. to Nov. to be slammed at work. High stress. They're expecting so much work that I've been told to give up 50% of my table space, 45% of my materials storage space and 33% of my shelf space to make room for it all.

Having a good time!
Jayelsee finally arrived through all the nasty weather, safe and sound. Shipsister also arrived and joined us for the day. Tee Morris was already here and having fun. :D
Our table set up was nice. We had a lot of interesting stuff on the table, including 2 models, Farscape 1 and Moya. Farscape 1 was on loan to us from Scaper Joe B. THANK YOU JOE! Moya is mine, and still a work in progress. But I got some great advice from modeler and rocket builder Roy Potter and from the SG12 fan group. We probably won't win the best fan table award, but I think we were certainly a friendly and welcoming group. Giving away DVDs is fun. :)

As you can see, jayelsee has worked her fingers to the bone to create a Rygel for our table. I must say, the Dominar has a certain commanding presence and attracted a lot of attention. I wish the pic showed more of the great details.

Rygel was indeed impressive, as was everything else about the table. DRD2001 and Jayelsee did a wonderful job pulling everything together; the table was awesome!
I had a great time Saturday; I hope everyone will get a chance to go next year.

I've already posted at their Yahoo group that we would like more participation next year. Like sponsoring a plaque for best costume or hosting a DRD building competition.

Actually, I've been asked if I'd like to help run the costume contest next year. I think I'm going to say yes. But sorry guys, I won't be a judge so I can't play favorites.

Wow! Time flies when you are having fun. :D
Just so everybody knows, I've been doing a little Carolina Scapers PR. I've been helping a few other Scapers with swag for their cons. With most of the swag, I've been putting sticker on it saying either "Compliments of" or "Courtesy of the Carolina Scapers". I'm hoping it brings more traffic to our site.
With that being said, I'd like to invite everyone to write an article or submit information for the site, so that we can keep it up to date and interesting. This is something that I've found myself being very delinquint about. So if you have any con reports, convention dates and info, costuming articles or suggestions, Farscape related news, props suggestions, fan fiction, recommended sites and such, please use the e-mail at the Carolina Scaper site to submit it.
Thanks. :groove:

Hi guys. It's been awhile but I wanted to let you know that I have moved to Raleigh and I work for NC State. The good news is that I'm making a lot more money, the bad is that because the state only pays once a month, I will be broke for awhile. Plus, it will be awhile before my wife can come out here. So what that means is that she can't maintain the website until she moves out here. We had a virus that wiped out all of our files so she couldn't send a copy to anyone either. Hopefully, this will be a temporary situation. We just bought an Apple but I don't have it hooked up yet.

What's going on in the world? I just got a new young horse, Lance, last month and being the baby he is, he ate a plastic bag wednesday. People throw trash and it blows in the pasture Grrr! Now I'm on Poo Patrol waiting for it to come out. {that's how I'm posting at 5 in the morning. Checking him. He's loving the attention tho. Getting lots to eat and he follow as me around helping to check poo for bags. Then my favorite kitty is missing. Geesh!

If you can make it, there will be Scapers there!
Shannon has the Carolina Scaper Con Kit and will be at Trinoc Con for the weekend. So those of you who can come to the con, make sure to drop by and help and say "Hi".
It will be another great chance for us to promote the mini for October.
Thanks :)

Oh jeez vinity, that sounds aweful. Isn't there a risk to Lance's intestines too? Poo patrol at 5am is not a good way to start the day. At least you were aware that he did it and it is giving him plenty of attention time. My kitty, Moya, ate something one time which totally messed her up. She was at the vet for a week and it was very touch and go for a while. They never did figure out exactly what went wrong. :( I hope your kitty wanders home soon. Moya at the vet was hard enough to handle, and I knew where she was. I'm a basket case when it comes to my cats.
And don't worry about me in regards to the mugs. I totally understand real life. In fact, this weekend is dedicated to ORGANIZING! I'm afraid I've let too much slide for the past few weeks. I guess we Scapers keep too many irons in the fire. :)
Make sure you check out the Comic Con reports in I Have A Plan. There are some excellent pictures.
Sorry I didn't get them to you :( Sorry about work too :(

 I just spent all morning reading the con reports :D Wish I could have been there. Hope Burbank will be as high energy.
DRD Lance is fine. Vet said if we made it till sunday with no problems we are out of the woods. Mainly the scare was to keep it from impacting. Lots of Bran mashes, oil, alfalfa. I never saw it come out but the vet said I might not. Especially if he didn't have any trouble.
Chi kitty came home too. Thanks heavens. I shouldn't have favorites but I adore that kitty. {He was supposed to be Chianna but turned out to be a boy, so just Chi} Unfortunately he's designated barn kitty right now but he's TINY and really should be house kitty. But already have 3 house kitties, one who's old and wouldn't deal. So he has to wait for her to pass on. I have 7 cats right now
I made the mistake of reading about the Con's trailer. I was trying to be unspoilt but ........Oh well at least I can DL the trailer once sciffy put it up

Well, Alex came through fast. I weathered the storm at work, didn't have time to worry and by the time I got home around 7 p.m., it was pretty much over for my area. No damage at all, but I could see where parts of the road to my neighborhood had overwashed earlier. They got it worse further south (Ocracoke) with much flooding. Took people by surprise, it was faster & stronger than expected and no one evacuated. A lot of tourists got stranded, cars flooded out, many of them had to get rental cars to leave the island, a couple of days later. Some just finally got off today.
Hey, different topic, did anybody see zapgun's post about the gallery showing for her art work later this month? http://www.watchfarscape.com/forums/showthread.php?t=27027 If you're close to Carboro, maybe you can check it out.

Seems like maybe Ocracoke and south Hatteras Island got the worst of this one. Haven't heard much about Morehead City/Beaumont area yet, though. Your mom is closer to Wilmington/Wrightsville Beach, right?

Alright, I have gotten my new Mac computer up and running on a high-speed connection. This is my first Mac and I can guarantee it won't be the last. Once I got the hang of the basic differences, I love it. Raleigh seems nice so far. If anyone needs any help with anything out here, let me know. If I have the time, I will help out. What cons are coming up? Are there any plans to get together for the mini?
