Part-Time Huntsville 'Scaper - I'm there about once a month & occasionally twice a month. The rest of the time I'm an Atlanta 'Scaper.

I was thinking about paying to air the save Farscape commercial in the B'ham area with Charter cable. This is a map of the actual area. (http://www.chartermedia.com/media/jefferson/mainmap.html) I never have liked Charter, and this just gives me another reason. It's going to cost $127 to air it during each showing 7pm and 11pm. All these other cities charge a lot less for the later showing. Not only that, but they can't insert the commercial in the Hoover area - something about they don't control Sciffy in that area, and I'm thinking a lot of Farscape viewers would live in Hoover, so I don't know if it's worth it. With the cost of the tape and postage, it will cost approximately $150 to air it at 7pm. If any of you other B'ham scapers want to donate some money to the cause, please let me know ASAP and I'll consider it. If not, I'll probably just donate to the general fund. I would've really liked to have seen it here, but frell it - $150 is a lot of money if not many people are going to see it. :(

I wasn't sure that anyone else around besides me and the wife were watching...!
All my freinds look at me like a dog watching a ceiling fan when I mention FarScape! :D

and yes Charter SUCKS.

If any of you folks in Birmingham ever get together for a Farscape event, please let me know. It's only two hours away and I would gladly travel to meet other scapers.

I hope you guys are writing letters to Viacom, UPN and Showtime. I don't want the only letters they get from Bama to be from me! Cassandra, thanks for the offer, but I think the Mobile group might be a little more active. I remember they did something a little while back and posted it to the board. You could do a search for it. I signed up for a meetup once up here in the 'Ham and only two other people signed up - not enough for a meetup. :( Farscape isn't that big up here...yet. :ewink: For instance, I never heard one response - yay or nay - from anyone up here about the commercial which I thought would have been cool to see. I also noticed that I was the only one from Alabama who participated in Fried Fridays a while back. I hope Bama people will get more involved.

I am saddened to say that I believe you are right Wolli, about the lack of interest. I have done everything short of purchasing a billboard to convert people here in Montgomery, and no luck. Just me and my family. "What's wrong with you People?"

Easy there Big Fella...If I had known about the ad I would have GLADLY pitched in

I gotta agree about the unknown numbers here in B'ham though...BTW, what the frell was a "Fried Friday"?...I mean back in college I was occasionally *ahem* fried on Friday

but now I'm usually fried by the time I GET to Friday! :thud:

And For what it's worth...I have been writing Sci-fi channel, Viacom, USA, Mazda, KFC, etc...I'd even write to the frelling Weather Channel, if I thought it would help!...

Cassie, If we get something going on...Come on up! I don't know what, but you can certainly come...
What a bout Dragon-con in ATL??? anyone going? I ain't never been there but they say it's fun..

Have a great weekend!
Later

I'm not upset about the ad, I just thought someone would have at least responded to my question, but nada, you could hear the crickets chirping. LilOrion was able to tell me that our Nielsen rating was pretty low here anyway - about 0.9. :(

And the Fried Fridays thing was when we were all eating KFC every week and sending in the receipts to be sent to KFC. We did this to show our support because they wrote UPN (I think?) and told them they would advertise on Farscape wherever it went. I'm sure if you search for Fried Fridays you can find plenty of information on it. We did this back around January. I gotta agree about the unknown numbers here in B'ham though...BTW, what the frell was a "Fried Friday"?...I mean back in college I was occasionally *ahem* fried on Friday :lol Speaking of that, after we had Brascape (which was great!), now there's Barscape which I'd love to do, but I can't right now because I'm training for a half-ironman. Boy, am I going to live it up when I'm done though!

I've never been to any kind of con, but what the frell? When is Dragon-con? Are Farscape people going to be there?
Easy there Big Fella...If I had known about the ad I would have GLADLY pitched in That's good because I think they have some more national type stuff cooked up and can use all our help. :) Did you read about the latest - the ice cream brigade?

Hey any Bama Scapers out there who are going to Dragon Con, How about a "Meet Up"? This may be the only time we will actualy get to meet each other since there is such a small amount of us in this state.

Where and when is Dragon Con?

cassandra W

Dragon Con is in Atlanta on the 29 of August thru the 1st of September. Check out their site at www.dragoncon.org Their local Scaper group is planning on having a table there. Some of the cast have already commited to being there. It's also the largest science fiction convention in the South east.

Should be Fun!

I'm still not sure if I'm going to be able to make it. I have a triathlon around that time, but I can't remember when? Anyway, I've never been to a con, but I'd like to go just to meet some of the scapers here on the board. That would be cool. There's a few people that watch it where I work, but none of them are as crazy as I am about it! :grr: Cassandra, you might want to check out this thread in the meantime...http://www.watchfarscape.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=11038&highlight=dragoncon

Now, where's that triathlon list...
