View Full Version : How about another set of Rallies on 11-5

For those of us that just could not get it together by 10-5, how about doing this again on 11-5, and then maybe again on 12-5.
I assume the 5th was picked b/c of the 5th season and it being a Saturday.-
11-5 is a Tus. and 12-5 is a Thurs. Is it unrealistic to try to do weekdays?
I would like to get one tegother in Houston (we have 4 million people here- there has to be a ton of scapers)- but I don't think it will happen by 10-5. Even if I had my act together, Lili has dominated the press this whole week anyway.
Ideas? Suggestions?

A Tuesday and Thursday are very bad for me and for anyone who might have to travel. Here is an idea to kick around. Busiest shopping day is the day after Thanksgiving. Howabout checking local malls or merchants in those mall about being allowed to hand out flyers and discuss Farscape. Video stores, gaming stores, book stores, toy stores or any store sympathetic to our cause. Barnes & Noble lets charities giftwrap for donations. Chaeck with them about letting you giftwrap and donating the money to Toys for Tots. Buy the tots Farscape toys, RPGs, or videotapes(?). But you can talk about your group while people get their gift wrapped and Barnes & Noble makes intercom announcements about how SaveFarscape is wrapping gifts to collect donations for Toys for Tots. The closer to Christmas the better you'll do. Sorry I'm a little OT.

I think we need to talk. I would like to do something for the Houston Area also. Here's what I thought. The Renaissance Festival just opened this weekend. I thought that maybe a group of us could get together and meet out at the fairegrounds.
I know some people that work out there and most of them are serious sci-fi fans. Many of the workers come from all over the US and could take the message back to their respective states.
Inside the park we would have to show less of a presence, but out in the parking area as people are leaving it's open game as long as we're not too close to the front gate. Thousands of people go to the festival every weekend that it's open. That's a lot of people to target at one time.
We could meet early, coordinate what time in the afternoon to go outside to pass out flyers, etc., then we could party and enjoy the park for a several hours, meet at our designated time and then spread out in the parking area and do our thing.
I think that people that enjoy dressing up in costume, some for a living, some for fun, are a great demographic to target. The Festival runs Oct 5 - Nov 17 Saturdays and Sundays. Highest attendance days are Saturday. Let me know what you think about this little idea. We would need to start searching out Scapers from around the surrounding area asap. I just can't do the weekend of Oct 26 since that's my annual Halloween party.

Since the objective of this is to drive higher viewing to the show in January, doesn't it make the most sense to target the effort toward a date closer to the airdate of new episodes?

But we just can't go into radio silence. We need to keep Scapers interested and busy while steadily making more people aware of the program while there is time for them to view the DVD/VHS programs before the big push for the seasone premiere.
We don't want people to lose interest or wander off from sheer boredom. I think the occasional get together of local groups to organize their efforts so they are more effective when we need to do the big push has merit.
Halloween is coming up. What is your costume going to be? The 1st season box set comes out at the end of October here in the states. Then there's Thanksgiving and the Christmas shopping days that are coming after that. What are you buying others for gifts?
There are opportunites out there to get together and plan strategies for use closer to the big event. If you read some of the rally reports you'll see where people are discovering the things that worked and the things that didn't. This rally was an excellent testing ground for that and it also connected faces to the handles used here in cyberspace. Sometimes you need more than just the keyboard to keep you interested and connected.

Even major marketers and advertisers take hiatuses when the time isn't ideal for their message.
We also want to give people time to attend to their lives.
We also don't want people to get tired of promoting with little immediate response.
I don't think anyone will be bored or drift off. The approach of new episodes always gets people excited and jazzed.

I think MediaSavant has a valid point, a rally takes an entire day of the weekend, we should concentrate on doing high-energy stuff when we're closer to a point in time when we can do actual damage.
And the more frequently things occur the less news-worthy they are. Nobody is going to report that "...Save FarScape has yet another rally this weekend...". That's of course not to say that we should stop leaving fliers in shops etc, but I think if we come back with a big showing in January, it'll take the press by surprise, because many will have assumed we've gone dead and that will be news-worthy...
If we really want to do damage we'll need people who haven't heard about FarScape tune in for the first time... if we get them to be interested now and they can't find it on anywhere (and we got a lot of people asking during the rally "So where and when is it on, so I can see for myself?") then they're likely going to ignore information the next time round...
As usual just MHO of course :)

shopping days or close to them.
Hitting the malls around the Holiday seasons would definately target a large market. I know some have already gone to the malls to put out flyers but if you hold rallys or do volunteer work at the malls (someone already mentioned this in another post= Holiday gift wrapping etc) during the busy season it would hit more people. Plus if you ask the video stores to put up flyers or even let you hand out flyers during that time it may getting more people interested in purchasing the products.
It really depends on how much time people want to spend promoting to save the show. I only have work which I can't let saving the show interfer with like many others so for me the weekends are the only time I could do things.
Since the cold weather is coming upon us in the Midwest area, the malls are the best places to go.
A little Farscape for the Holidays! It would also give some of us time to set up little holiday events and do more radio promotions etc. Are any of the charity events in the works tied in with the Holidays?

Best bet is to see if any future rallies can be held in the same places. And if anyone can do it, go near these areas before the date. Say 1 or 2 days and pass out info about the show and the rally gathering at such said places. Maybe offer to raffle off some Farscape t-shirts made by the fans, with time of raffle on flyers.
Have them pass out numbered tickets to interested participants.
Make sure the design is a good one so the person will be more than willing to wear it.
How about lifesize carboard cutouts of the cast for people to take a picture with. And if the cast members are gracious enough to show up they can pose along the cutouts. We can in turn use those for publicity.
As for the gift wrapping ideas why not make Farscape gift tags saying seasons greetings from____ to_____ and on the back of the gift tag attach show information. We can have some of the graphic artist here do a bit of a holiday spin on the images to give it more of a x-mas feeling.
But I believe we do need to keep doing more before Jan. With all that is going on in the world today many things get sidetracked.
We have to make sure other fans keep up the fight and not give up. Motivation.
