View Full Version : Calling KY scapers....

I know there are a few out there. It just feels like I'm all alone.

I've been talking to cable co and print ad people about running spots on tv and Ace Magazine.

If you would like to help finance some ads or just talk about FS, I'm here, ready, willing and able.

Thanks

KYscaper used to be my handle, actually. (Maybe, you remember me?)

You're not alone!! Although, it does seem if no one in our state watches.

Yeah....I'd love to help. What about the Lexington Herald???

my email is.... smorgan@mis.net

I left a message with the Herald Leader and got no response, so I turned my attention towards Ace Weekly. Have you seen it? It's free, upscale, arty magazine that I see all over town.

The lady that I talked to was excellant. She asked me every conceiveable question about FS and said she had some ideas on ads. She's going to send me her proposal this Wed I think. I was afraid too, that anything I could afford at the Leader would get totally lost and not be worth it. I think people actually look at the stuff in Ace. :-)

And I have someone at Insight cable doing up a plan to see how much it would cost to air some of the 30 sec spots that Beowulf has made. I ought to hear back on that soon.

I'm so jealous of towns that have more than one Farscape fan in them, aren't you? *g* I'm glad you said hi. I was planning on doing everything myself, so anything you wanted to do or contribute would be a bonus. Questions or just want to talk, email me.

*whew* I'm not alone! I feel better now. :-)

<I left a message with the Herald Leader and got no response,

I almost forgot....I sent an email to the tv editor....but never got a response, either. I was emailing alot of different people that week. I was even thinking of doing a classified ad. It might get noticed...and I could put in the savefarscape web site address.

<so I turned my attention towards Ace Weekly. Have you seen <it? It's free, upscale, arty magazine that I see all over town.

No....I'm in Danville. And, I don't get to Lexington very often.

> I think people actually look at the stuff in Ace. :-)

It sounds great!

>And I have someone at Insight cable doing up a plan to see >how much it would cost to air some of the 30 sec spots that >Beowulf has made. I ought to hear back on that soon.

I will. And, Yes.....I am jealous!! Don't you sometimes feel like people look at you strangely when you mention that you like scifi....especially here in the Bible-belt. That's why I go on the net....to talk to like-minded people....who don't think that you're nuts. And, I wish I was close enough to a big city to go to a rally. Right now, I have too many "real life" committments. (Two kids!! Soccer, ballet....pumpkin patches!!)

Me, too!!!!!!

You'd think I grew three heads right before their eyes if I mention sci fi. It's like you suddenly become one of the lunatic fringe or something. *sigh* That's why I spend so much time on line too. Kentucky is just not a hot bed of sci fi. More's the pity. But you do what you can.

I was thinking of trying to put in some classified ads in the herald leader as well so if you still want to do something like that, that would be cool. I was going to see how much it would be to run classified ads multiple days in Dec. and have things like.. [Farscape: It ain't your father's sci fi. Coming Jan. on the Sci Fi Channel] or [Farscape: Wait for it.] Or a thousand different ones. Depends on how much it is.

So many ideas. So little money. *g*

But I'm trying.

Chris

Gaussian

About the classified ad....I was even thinking .....along the lines of the rallies....if everyone put a classified ad in their local paper on the same day....that might get noticed.

I know....I wish I had more money to really do it right, but with Christmas coming and two little ones....gotta be frugal.:)

I really hope that we're able to pull something off. It will be so sad if we can't. It just won't be the same without Farscape. People keep saying...."It's just a tv show". And, they're right. But, it was a great tv show. And, well it was the thing I was into. My hubby has golf and I had Farscape. No harm in that. Hey, it kept me off the streets. (Not that there would be much chance of me being on the streets. I'm a goody-goody....through and through.)

Any help that I could do, I'm willing. Feels like we are the only ones. Kind of feeling discouraged, the idea's seem great.
I tryed hearld leader and they don't seem to answer.

Laura

loco2

Discouraged?! Heck no. Don't be discouraged. There is now one more scaper in Kentucky than I knew about just a second before. :D Thanks for the shout out!

What part are you from? East, West, North, South, Central? ;)

I'm right in the middle, around Lex. I've got the rates from the cable co and I'm going to run some spots on Insight and Adelphia. And I'm getting a ad proposal from one of the free magazines around here. Ace Weekly. I'm real interested to see what she has to say. (I think she was actually going to work on helping me. The concept boggles the mind :)

And I don't know what's up with the Leader. I have a theory that they can spot a non business person from 50 metras and they don't want to deal with anybody that doesn't have big bucks. But it's just a theory.

Now, if only you were a college student, I have this idea......

Louisville huh? My son is headed that way this weekend to fly off into the sunset to join the Marines.

At least you get a UPN station... where I'm at, Georgetown, we don't even have that.

Glad to know we have another in our ranks. That makes...four, right? That's almost enough to have a scaper party! :D

I'm a Louisville girl.

4 of us! I have friends that watch too.
I've gotten like 6 people to watch, they just aren't that active in the fandom.

But the 4 of us rock!!!!!

I have gone through Georgetown many a time. Pretty out there.
We have to get you a UPN affiliate than!!!

I just moved to Louisville this summer and I don't know that many people yet who I can tell that I watch Farscape religiously rather than as just something I happen to catch now and then, let alone that I spend time trying to save it.

They already think I'm a little strange because I'm originally from NYC!!

It's good to know I'm not in this alone out here!

Hey Kentucky Scapers,

In an effort to build larger, united groups of Scapers, Chicago wants to be a hub for the midwest. We had a Kentucky-an come up for our rally in October, and we would LOVE to have you on board with us! Our Neilsen market is huge, and getting boxes turned on in Chicago could make the difference!

We are making appearances at cons, doing the Two Towers fundraiser, holding startegy meetings, chats, etc. We're active, and we're motivated.

We have a Yahoo group, called: ChicagoScapers. Myself and VoYag3r (VoY for short) are the moderators. We would love to have you join our group, and be a part of the campaign on a larger scale.

Come on over - we want you!!!

Lin, I'd be happy to join the Chicago scapers, but what exactly can I do there from way down here?

You can still help even from KY -

1) maybe you can make it into town for one of our meetings or events.

2) Join us on chat every thursday, sci-fi server, #chicagorally (let me know if you don't know how to chat)

3) sign onto the Yahoo group and help our efforts there - we need people to help us write trivia questions for a convention we are going to. We could always use donations for this con AND advertising we plan on doing in December.

4) just BE THERE!! Take what we are doing and bring them to your area (the stealth publicity we'll run inDec/Jan)

You never know what you can do to help - so c'mon KY - get the midwest moving and let's get that 2.0 rating in Chicago!

Versailles, here.

Did you guys note that Lani Tupu will be in Morehead, Ky. (of all places) next Tuesday? Work will probably keep me from going to the afternoon session--but maybe the autograph session later?

Gaussian
11-10-2002, 01:18 PM
Yeah, I heard about Lani in Morehead. I wish I could go....but I'd have to drag the kids....and it's almost a two hour drive from Danville. It's killing me....that I probably won't be able to go.

loco2
11-10-2002, 02:15 PM
Do we know what time the autograph session is at the comic store?

I've dithered and hemmed and hawed. I know I should.. but I've never been to Morehead and I know I'll get lost and I'm afraid to go by myself. If anyone wants to go with me I'll take it as a sign from God that I'm supposed to go. *g* And if not... then it wasn't meant to be.

I thought if we met in Lexington we could go, but that depends on what time he'll be there. So... wadda ya think?

________________________________________________

A stop along the way to the West Coast that Lani is making is
Morehead State University, 150 University Blvd, Morehead, Kentucky.

He will be there on November 12th only. He is speaking with a theatre
group at the Lucille Caudill Little Room in Breckenridge Hall from 2 -
4 pm. This will be open to the public. We all know what a great
speaker he is. Anyone in the area, please stop in.

Later that day from 5 - 7 pm he will be signing autographs at White
Crow Comics, 210 Morehead Plz, Morehead, KY. Their phone number is
(606) 784-5040.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is the e-mail I recieved from Emeraldcity. I wish I could go....but I don't think my kids would survive the two hour drive. And, my hubby doesn't get home till 6:00.

Oh, well.:(

Hey Loco & Gaus.

Well I decided I HAD to go. I was supposed to go to a presentation with some VIPs (mind you, I'M not a VIP), but instead I'm headin' to the hills of Morehead. I HAVE to be at work in Frankfort from 8:00-12:00. Then a friend and I are taking off so we can hear Lani's lecture (I really want to go to that more than the autographing).

A couple of days ago emeraldcity12000 (Jean) posted that Lani would be at the Lucille Caudill Little Room in Breckenridge Hall, MSU, 150 University Blvd., from 2-4 p.m, speaking with a theatre group.

He'll be signing autographs at White Crow Comics, 210 Morehead Plaza (606) 784-5040 from 5-7 p.m.

I asked a colleague at Morehead if she knew anything about who set this up. I'll repeat her reply verbatim, 'cause she's obviously got a few things off a bit, since she's not a scaper:

"Apparently one of our local (Grayson, in Carter County) comic-book shop entrepreneurs is fairly active in the convention scene. She met the guy who wore the Darth Vader suit in Star Wars and he made an appearance here a few years ago. The Darth Vader guy aparently met Lani and now functions as his 'handler' or something. The cast of Farscape are apparently conducting a sort of grass roots campaign to get the show returned, so there you have it, the whole story."

I'm taking a 13x19 side-by-side color printout of Ratscape's Crais & Pilot wanted posters--just in case he can sign things other than merchandise purchased there (I going with a few bucks, though. I want to support the people who brokered this appearance!).

BTW, I have a half dozen other colleagues who are FS fans that live in Lex., Frankfort, and Louisville. They're not able to go to this event and they're not the rallying/in front of the camera types--but it's possible they might kick in on some kind of ad purchase. I believe good-sized ads are 1 or 2 thousand (gasp). But I bet we could manage something in January.

Well, if I can get my father to go with me, I'll be there Tuesday night for the signing. I'd really like to go to the lecture more too, but there's no way I can get off that early.

I do want to support him though. I'll call the comic book shop and get directions tomorrow. Anyone want anything while I'm there? *g* (if I get there.)

Well, at least, now I don't feel so bad about not being able to make it.

I will definitely try hard in Feb.

I wonder if we could convince him to go to Lexington?? It's only an hour further west....and much more central for most KY scapers. (Also....I know how to get there!!!)

Would anybody else be up for a little get together?

Hey, did you see the news about meeting up on the Dec. 4? That is a cool idea!!!! Although, to be honest....a Saturday would be better for me. (Then hubby can watch the kiddles!!)

We should really do this!!!! What do you guys think of Joseph-Beth for a location? They have that wonderful cafe....we could have coffee and talk Farscape. It would be a blast!!

After Thanksgiving ....maybe we can coordinate something. I personally, am travelling home to Connecticut next week and others are going to the conventions....(so jealous!!!).

What do ya think?????:D

11-19-2002, 08:05 PM
Yeah, I saw about the 4th event--is that a Wednesday? We probably would have a bit more luck with another day of the week. Friday (aka Farscape night), or Saturday, as you mentioned.

J-B's sounds about right for most of the fs fans I know. I'll spread the word amongst my cohorts in Versailles, Frankfort, & Lex. Might be able to drum up a few bodies. We can have crackers and maybe some fellip nectar.

We went to Connecticut for Thanksgiving and were totally exhausted after the long drive....(18 long hours....we had horrible traffic the whole way and then snow in West Virginia). Loco, you're the one I'm in awe of. You've invested so much toward "the good cause."

My offer to help on the Ace ad was not a hollow one. Let me know when you need it--and how.

Some day we may be able to manage a larger gathering--maybe in Jan.? Others of my gang had hoped to join us, but sniffling babies, viruses, and work stymied their intentions.

Enjoyed it, Chris--and thanks for bringing your con pix! (But you are going to have to talk to your husband about missing CB!)

Hi,
I am visiting my family in Nashville 1/20-1/27. I would love
to get together with other campaigners while I am there.
I probably will have a rental car and need to get away for a while anyway, so if you do plan to meet, PLEASE PM me with details.
I will have access to my bro's answering machine there.
Or if it's not official meeting, and any of you are close to Nashville
(frankfort?), let's get together. We have 4 in a core group here
(Oregon), but 4 actives out of 1.5 Million residents is a little disappointing.

Nevertheless, we make our mark and I think have contributed
to awareness of the wonders we've seen on FS.
:hi:

LadyCrais
12-15-2002, 06:08 PM
Sparky - Unfortunately the Nashville group is essentially defunct. We managed a showing for the Oct 5th rally, but have yet to manage to meet since. A total lack of organization and willingness to fight the inertia in this town seems to have won. Supposedly 7 people signed up for the Meet (whatever it was called), but I have no idea if it happened or not. I know I didn't go because they voted to meet way out of town. I, myself, am leaving on the 19th and won't be back 'til the 5th, so I won't even be here while you're here.

What I can do for you if you like is put out a message on the Nashville board (which hasn't had a post in ages but does go to our email, so isn't relying on people showing up) and see if anyone responds and can meet with you for a little Scaper fun. Let me know if you want me to do that.

Well, folks, we're getting down to the nitty gritty...I'm here in Louisville and my family think I'm nuts about the show (don't know why, I only schedule everything around Friday nights! Sorry, no girls' nights out on Fri, only Sat!). My 11 yr old actually thinks the show is cool and is a little miffed that this season is it. I notice that there haven't been any postings to this thread since Dec (if I'm reading this right!) and wondered if there is still anyone out there!
Keep the faith!

Oops...I started my own thread only to notice moments later that I had missed this KY thread just below. I live in Louisville and I am doing what little I can to spawn new fans. I have been keeping track of the campaign all along via the news and updates section, but tonight I had just enough time to post here. I was just wondering how many people there really were in the Louisville area that knew about Farscape. I know that Best Buy and Ear X-tacy, at least, have been carrying Farscape merchandise. Anyone else? Are there any active groups in Ky? And what became of the visit Lani Tupi was to make to to Morehead? Have you all signed all the online petitions you can? Have you written at least one letter to Sci Fi?

This isn't over...I need this show as much as I need the air I breathe

And I've written so many letters to sci fi I'm just sure they know my name by now. But if not...I'll just have to give it another try. :-) Glad to see people stirring around here.

Yeah, love the bra idea...I just went through the entire thread (when I left it was on pg 14, it's now to 20!) and almost tinkled myself! There are some really wicked, witty people around! But, I'm not surprised...Lots of neurons entailed in liking this genre! But, I, too am glad to see that there are at least a few of us...There may be more, but too shy to chime in (saw a bunch of that on the "bra thread")...Anyone doing anything special for the final 2 eps?

Yeah, me, too...As I've scanned various other boards, avoiding spoilers, from what I've glanced, it's gonna be a tear-jerker... I guess not only from the show itself, but from the realization that this is truly IT. I really don't know what I'm going to do with that time I always allotted (sp?) for FS. I think my whole family is going to get me the eps on DVD from season 1 & as far as they have from 2, but our local Suncoast only has those and they are the only ones I've found so far that even CARRY them. I haven't gone so far as to peruse the sites like e-bay & Amazon, yet, but if desperate enough.........By the way, are you gonna send in a bra? I am, a big ol' nursing one! One of the witty folks on that thread said something like "nothing says non-virgin like a big-ol'-nursing bra!" :rollin: Almost lost bladder control, so there's a good use for that since I'm not having any more kids! (Other people's kids are fun, you spoil them and send them home!)

Yes I am and I'm happy cause we just won the game. Of course I couldn't watch it cause farscape was on, but I looked after the show to find the scores. WOOHOO ok I'm done heh heh. What else can we do for the show. Time for me to call the big guns. My friends in school. We have thought of plans to save our butts before! Surely we can save Farscape.:ewink:

Hey Kristyn! Welcome to the party. :-) Right now I think the best thing to do would be to write the Sci Fi Channel. Let them know how you feel. And if you can, join the great Aeryn go Bra'gh campaign. I plan on it. I know it's silly but the morale boost is great and it think it might actually get some attention. None of it can hurt.

I work in Lex and have met a few of my fellow scapers here. (although I sure wish Gussian would come up here. *g*) My son is home from the Marines for two weeks so, to a certain extent, I'm happy regardless, but I know next week will kill me. But I'm spoiler free so I'm pretending it won't be so bad...ha!

But tonight's ep was da bomb. :-) And Go Cats! (I was at the Senior night game...hehehe)

OMG, you're not kidding...My hubby was downstairs on the computer & watching the game, I was upstairs on "the BIG TV" watching FS and every commercial break, he'd holler up the score to me...Funny thing was, When the game first started, I was in a plain grey sweatshirt...They weren't doing so hot...Put on UK jersey over the sweatshirt and BINGO!!! They started their run that lasted the whole rest of the game!!! I'm so-o-o superstitious about "my" Cats! And believe it or not, I'm a transplant here! (Hubby grew up a UK fan, I became one when we got married in 1985 or as it is here, I "got the basketball religion" :rollin: )
Can't wait to see them play this afternoon! Hope they stomp all over Auburn!!!

Me too!!:) I'm a transplant, too. But, I married me a Kentucky boy (In 1987)........and here I am. I'm originally from Connecticut........if you can believe that. I attended Berea College........where I met my husband and got my "MRS." degree........and a BA, of course.

And, yes.......the game was on in the living room........but I was in the bedroom watching Farscape. My husband had a friend over to watch it. I felt like I was being rude.........but nothing interupts Farscape.....especially these last episodes. Which I can't really believe is happening. :( I don't know if I'll ever recover.

We are the best. :aok: It's great to know that anytime I want to see the beauty of the coutryside or a beautiful country girl I never have to go far. That's right folks, Kentucky is the best. We have the number 1 college basketball team...go Cats. Now we even have Kentucky Speedway. You gotta love Nascar. I'll be there in June. Anyone else going? Perhaps if others are going to the Busch race we could all meetup up for a little dinner before race time. Well, I'm off to enjoy the beautiful day we have going on. Heh, enjoy might not be the right word. I have to build a new shed and as everyone know there is at least a 1000 screws and knowing me I'll have half left over. :wstupid: Have a wonderful day all. Yes, love NASCAR, Mark Martin's my driver - liked the design BEFORE Viagra - but still like him personally. One of our friends races in the circuit locally, so through them I've started to really enjoy it. Hubby thinks it's a bit like watching a hamster run on a wheel, but, that's just not his thing...Just like he doesn't quite understand my fascination w/Farscape! But, he's wholeheartedly behind my getting involved in the bra campaign and in the charity events that I'm gonna get involved in later on.

I got a funny story for ya about the real men don't read instructions. Ok, so I'm putting together the shed right? Right. :rollin: I'm breazing through it like a fat man at the buffet line. Now I'm about 3/4 of the way through and uh oh, missed a few things. How can this happen you might be wondering? Well, I only scanned the directions. Duh, what a dummy I am. We as men have to have something to give our lives true meaning and thinking we don't need directions is our schtick. You must be laughing real hard by now because I know I was. After I realized what I had done I remembered your post. :aok: BTW....only a few screws left over but the factory also gives extras because we do tend to lose some. I even got my first sunburn of the year. It was a really beautiful day hear in northern ky. Well, I'm off to work now. Gotta love that night shift. Have a great day and a better tomorrow. Well, do you have your brackets filled out? I do...Put in a few upsets, but for the most part, I see UK going all the way.
I sent in my bras for the "Women support Farscape" campaign and it was a hoot. The lady at the post office just looked at me so I of course had to give her the run down on the effort! She giggled and said it must be a really good show! Anyway, off to the store to get some nicotine! Hope work wasn't too hard on ya last night. I never liked 2nd shift, 3rd was OK, 1st was OK, 2nd, I never felt like I got anything done outside of work!
Of course, now my shift is 24/7, wife & Mom, gotta keep the home fires burning ALL the time! (Sorry to sound like I'm whining, I'm not.) Could be worse!
Hope you have an awesome day!

Sorry I didn't talk for a while school got in the way. O)n one of my post I put that i had a lot of money to help...thats not what I meant. LOL! Its the oppisite of that. Put I wrote before my brain thought and stuff didn't work. I have already wrote to SCI FI and I have something to say about how to send the show to a different station. OK let think about it this way. Not everyone gets the sci fi channel. I had to beg my mom to get this special package that will only let u get it. It also cost alot more too. But if we got some channel that comes to everyone. Two the point was brought up that no one can just jump into this show. Well I know most of u remember that Undressed show they had. Well we need to make one for the last 2 seasons just like the first 2. Then air that it would be coming on a speial day so everyone would know. Then we could just go on from there. This is what to tell the station to do seeing as how we don't have one yet.....LOL. LOve the thing about men not reading instructions. Its true though. Ok I'm really sick and should be sleeping right now so I'm going to bed. Bye all.:grr: PS. Wish well for all the troops that are going to protect us.

I'm waiting for two things. One, to hear Ted Koppel or some mainstream anchor do a piece on SciFi being deluged with undies. Two, the day I can be the bearer of the tidbit of news telling who picked up season five.

Bravo sny!!! My "co-worker" (namely, my sister-in-law) thinks it's extremely funny and delights in telling yet another person we mutually know about my escapades in this quest! BTW, while picking up a couple of DVDs for my niece, saw at Suncoast that a new Farscape DVD is coming out next month. Looked longingly at that, worker asked if I realized that this Fri was the last show, wanted to reply to him, YEAH, SO WHAT!?!?!?! WE'RE TRYING TO GET OUR SHOW BACK ON THE AIR!!! Refrained from such unseemly behavior, and replied that he should check out the website & thread in order to see what happens when women get involved in trying to save something! Then proceeded to entertain all the other customers with what we've done and got loads of laughs all around (and a couple of sidelong glances!). I do feel at least vindicated that we could all get together around a pretty silly idea and make it into something really great. Gotta love rabid fans!!!
Yes, I'd love to hear a major network pick the story up, maybe they will, maybe not...Gotta keep the faith. 'Nother network, it'd be the best. Still holding out hope for Showtime or UPN, would require at least cable in some areas, digital in others (that's the way it was when we first got sciffy - channel 111!!!), but I don't hold out hope that NBC or any of the "big boys" will pick it up.
As for the brackets.....I see UK Blue all the way through! (yeah, I'm an aspiring poet!) That's how my ever-hopeful bracket ends. I do believe they have the determination, leadership, and skills to do it. They have to believe in themselves as much as we do and they have it hands down. Of course, I remember in December talk of poor Tubby's firing (or tarring & feathering by some LOL) !!! So, I hope this puts to rest any doubts as to his coaching abilities. I know that his style is not what we became accustomed to, but he has his own way, just as Mr. Rupp (moment of silence, please) and Mr. Hall, and even Mr. Pitino (Do I hear a "boo, hiss"?). Since my family is originally from Georgia, I have a very special place in my heart for Mr. Smith and think he will continue to do well here in the bluegrass state. Lot of folks around here absolutely despise RP, especially with all the rumors flying around here regarding infidelity and such. I hope for his family's sake it isn't true! I've met him and even if he is a Yankee, I thought him to be a great coach and he did an excellent job at UK. He moved on, didn't do so great in the NBA, but it's hard to tell someone who makes 10 times your salary to get off his duff and hustle! The thing that gets me about the pros is they seem to forget, they're getting PAID TO PLAY A GAME!!! And that's true for most any sport! Anyway, I'll get off my rant now!
Hope everyone enjoys (sniff) the last ep (FOR NOW) and all are in my prayers that we are effective in this campaign to keep our show on the air SOMEWHERE!
God bless!

The "Harvard Of The South", our local institution of higher learning. Our department skews young (ITS). Since I came here right after I graduated college, I was the youngest fulltimer in the department...by about two months. I had to work here three and a half years almost to become OLD ENOUGH to join the retirement plan!

I was lucky to get a group of coworkers where we all have common interests. If we had any more fun at work, I think it would be illegal. We'll be "eating in" for a while, what with trying to watch Children of Dune, Farscape, the NCAA tourney, and Enterprise during lunch. Poor microwave. We should be able to go out sometime in June...

Ah, there are always nutcases calling the radio shows wanting to fire you when you lose to your "archrival". Happens everywhere. Luckily, UK doesn't find it a firing offense. I'd gladly exchange the UL game for a title. I guess coaches just take it in stride. I always point out to people that offense might sell tickets, but defense wins championships. And anyone who says Tubby didn't coach his way to that title in 1998 (even if he didn't recruit all the players) didn't pay attention to that 17-points-down-to-Duke comeback when Coach K would have mortgaged his mother for a timeout and Tubby refused to call one!

And I wish Pitino luck. I knew he was making a mistake when he left. The NBA eats coaches alive, no matter how good they are, no matter how much control they have, no matter how much success they have. Have you seen a single one that didn't age about five years in his first year as an NBA coach? And frankly, as long as I have college ball, the NBA could disappear from the face of the earth and I wouldn't miss it. I follow with some interest how former UK players are doing and wish them lots of success, but the NBA just ain't my bag.

Besides, you have to admire the moxie it takes to coach your former employer's main in-state rival. Tubby may not be as fast-talking and flashy, but frankly, I like low key better. I could see him staying for the rest of his career. I never saw that with Pitino. Frankly, I was surprised he stayed as long as he did. Besides, I would certainly work my butt off on defense to avoid one of those patented Tubby glares!

Well, Susan, I'm a fellow nutcase, then! Glad to know ya!! (And let you know that "we are not alone" LOL)
Hey Stacie, I think there's much to be said for low key coaches, and there's the same for more, how should I say this, Type-A coaches... And what you said is too true, offense keeps the fans on their feet, but defense wins games. Just look at this team! We haven't had the high scores that we became accustomed to under Pitino, but we make SO many points off our defense with turnovers, defensive rebounds, and steals (I guess that's considered a turnover, but I differentiate between running out the shot clock and forcing it that way as opposed to an outright steal of the ball). But, I digress!
Looking forward to and dreading at the same time this last episode...Wish that there were some around here in Louisville I could get together with and hold hands, cry on shoulders, etc. I went to Wally-world the other day and stocked up on my extra-soft Kleenex! I'm sure that I'm going to go through it.
Lots of love and prayers to y'all and our soldiers & leaders...Hope this is over quickly!

I'm not sure anyone should be vying for the title "Harvard of the South", frankly. Judging by their "take-it-til-you-get-the-grade-you-want-and-it-doesn't-show-on-your-transcript" policy that provided so much material for newsmagazines a few years ago, you might be able to get a trained monkey a pretty impressive Harvard degree if you have enough money, the patience, and a sufficiently intelligent monkey. Then he could get a job managing a network somewhere, wink, wink.

'Sides, I'm mighty partial to my alma mater, Campbellsville University. They paid for my education with an academic scholarship. I practically went to college for free, so they get a little something from me every annual fundraiser.

I think people look perfectly respectable in a nice Farscape t-shirt. Not like you can convert the kids, but teachers and other parents, have at 'em! Reminds me of when I wore a Monty Python t-shirt to a night of Bible School (I was teaching the class) and one of the parents came up to me and shrieked "Monty Python!?!" and I was half expecting a horrified "be an example" lecture. I had no more than braced myself before she gushed, "I love that show! My brother and I used to watch it all the time! You watch it? Is it still on somewhere?" You might be surprised how many closet "nutcases" there are if you just give them a nice "in" with a t-shirt.

And whatcha mean JUST a stay at home mom? To me, that's kind of like saying, "What me? I'm just a nuclear physicist." My mom stayed home after I was born, and to me, she was like the Marines. She did more work before breakfast than most people do all day. I think my job's easier. I get vacations, she didn't.

Actually, THAT was the best thing about Berea.........So cheap!!!
A wonderful education........at a bargain price. Every student gets a scholarship.......but they all have to work at least 10 hours a week.

I was incredibly lucky to attend such a wonderful "higher institution of learning".........I would recommend it to anyone looking for a school to send their kids. I guess everyone has a soft spot for their alma mater.......but I absolutely loved my time in college.

Thank you muchly, I remembered "Aeryn" saying "erpling" in one of the episodes (memory's not that good anymore) and rolled, howling and crying...When I finally remembered it (memory got jogged by someone's tags under their signature) I wanted to "borrow" it with something else...Since I'm the stay-at-home Mom who's never at home, I've taken to calling myself a Domestic Goddess. Then, lights go on, flashing, "Erpling Goddess" is born! Then thought, I'm REALLY not a "goddess", more like "semi"...The thought process went from there...Like I said before, I'm nuts! But I'm really fun to be around! Especially when I get off on a tangent like I just did there, I'll either bore you to tears, or join you in a giggle fit!

Also, as one of your fellow "I do more before 9 AM than even the Army", hey, some may not think it's as "noble" as other professions, but think about this. Einstein had a mother. JIM HENSON had a mother. Ghandi had a mother. Who TRULY has the most influence in our children's lives? The mother. Unfortunately, with MOST of the Mom's out there having to work fulltime outside the home as well as taking care of so much inside the home, the kids are the ones who are really suffering...Look at today's society! Also, think about the purse strings here! I don't know about in your household, but I do MOST (99%) of the shopping. When hubby & I got our last 2 vehicles, it was my decision which to buy (he got a minivan, I got a Jeep Liberty!!!!)
And I was the one who told the dealer unless he met MY price (lots less than he was wanting to sell it for, BTW), we and our money would walk right out their door to another dealer who would be willing to "listen to the little lady". I run the budget, run the errands, (run out of patience sometimes LOL), and run the kids hither, thither, and yon. Believe me, I've been out in the "working world" too, and it was easier by far! Hubby shared in the chores, we both did the budgeting, etc. Now that I'm home, all falls on my shoulders...Not complaining, mind you, this is where I choose to be. I get to do some volunteering at our church & school (can't be done on 9-5), grocery shop without banging my cart into someone else's every 2 feet, meet hubby for lunch sometimes, and as a matter of fact, I'm meeting sis-in-law for lunch today at Hoops to watch "the game!" Lots more responsibilities, but I can juggle when I need to do a load of laundry, can type on the computer in my fuzzy white slippers and not have someone come up behind me asking if they adhere to the dress code, and LOVE IT! Yes, the money would be better if I were "out there", but what does that really get me?
Sorry to go off on a rant there, just defending the last bastion (sp?) of Mommyhood!

Not bored at all!!! You sound like a lot of FUN..........as do most Scapers!!! We're a breed apart!!!

Oh........I so agree. The reason I stayed home......is the fact I couldn't abide the idea of someone else "raising" my children. That is what daycare amounts to.....and not doing as good as a job as someone who totally adores them.

And, because I do totally adore them.........I am one of the "strictest" moms I know of. There are kids in our neighborhood roaming the streets with no parental supervision at all. (My little pet peeve.) Not my children!!! At this point, my son is almost 9 and I still wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him.

I may be someone who loves scifi (especially Farscape) and enjoys a good time.....but......when it comes to my children I am serious as a heartattack.

Well hey, we should be! They are so totally dependent on us for EVERYTHING, and I firmly believe that our primary roles as parents are teachers. They come into this world without instruction manuals (like any of our menfolk would actually READ them anyway - just a reference to the "Real Men Don't Read Instructions" comments a couple pages back - hahahahaha), and completely clean slates. We have to give them all the ammunition they can get for when they are out in the real world. And from what I have seen, too many parents are willing to send their children into it ill-prepared! I'm like you, my kids (11 & 5) cannot even go to the next court (still within eye-shot) without approval beforehand! We live on a cul-de-sac (specifically with the kids in mind - didn't want to have to be as concerned with traffic) and when my kids are outside, my curtains & blinds are open so that I can see them at all times. Some may call it paranoid, some may just say I'm protective. I personally don't care what they think, since they are not responsible for my kids, I am. The nice thing about where I am is that everyone has kids from teens down to 18 months, so there are generally a lot of parents outside when all our kids are out. And to top it off, on one side of me is a Louisville Police Officer, on the other is a Louisville Fire Department EMT and his wife who's a nurse! The next court houses ANOTHER Police Officer, and we have a few scattered throughout the subdivision who are either LPD or Jefferson County Officers! Do I feel safe? You betcha!
Anyway, just to change the subject for a sec, don't you wish we could've gone to NYC with the ladies?! I sure do!
Gotta head on outta here...Shower then get ready to do some cheering for the Big Blue Nation! GO CATS!
Brascape - gotta love it when women get together around a wacky idea and send it to the stratosphere!

Hi, all. I just found this site and thought I'd add my name to the list of Kentucky Farscape fans (albeit rather late). I'm in Louisville, though I'm formerly from New York (Queens) and N. Ireland. Nice to see some other fans around here. :)

Howdy, Celten! Whereabouts are you in Louisville? I'm over here in Okolona (near Bullitt Co. line - near WalMart in Hillview). Another transplant? Cool...Navy brat here, lived just about everywhere! Dad's family from Georgia, Mom's family from NJ, PA, WI, Miami - just about everywhere also!

yes, I understand completely...Now that I've discovered this, I REFUSE to give it up! Much to the chagrin of my family! Hubby now has to ask to use the computer ROTFLMAO !! Never to be was my way of thinking before this! Didn't even want to use the computer to pay bills! This has made me brave in so many ways! I would have never sent an articly of clothing, much less a bra!, before I met up with all these wacky folks! I AM LOVING IT!
Something neat I got yesterday...My bro-in-law made prayer bracelets for all of us, white leather strip, blue bead, red bead, blue bead, to remember 2 special people we know personally either over there now or getting ready to ship out. Really neat idea. Tied mine around my wrist immediately & then we went to play volleyball...Talk about a rushed game! We were ready to head out & watch the Cats! We were all so distracted that we almost lost the games! (only lost one) But, we prevailed and won the match! Yay, us! We found that since we started winning (we've not lost a match all season) the Cats have been winning. We almost decided to forfeit the match so we wouldn't miss any of the game, but since we are all so VERY superstitious, we just spanked and ran! LOL

Hey, I'm a Navy brat, too! My father was in the US Navy (20 years, now retired) and my mother is Irish, hence the time spent in Ireland (with a few years in other countries and states thanks to my father's being stationed in those place).
I'm in the Lyndon area right now, and was in Audubon Park just last year.
I've tried to get several people to watch Farscape, but for most of the people I know it's a bit...obscure (about the only science fiction they'll watch is Star Trek). Those I HAVE gotten to watch have loved it, though.

kymom5613

One excellent way to get them hooked is to remind them that the reruns FROM THE BEGINNING are going to be shown starting 3/31 at Midnight...I know, pain in the wazoo time, but hey, I have VCR, will tape! Also, I'm pushing my fam to get the DVD set for me, hubby just asked the other night "Why don't you just go BUY it YOURSELF?" (yeah, THAT will make it REALLY special!) I just may do it to harelip him! LOL But seriously, tape the shows, have a "Farscape night" or something of the sort, and play away...

Also, my Dad spent 24 years in too...we were all over the place...Philippines, Iceland, Great Lakes, Norfolk (where I was born), Long Beach, Midway Island...It was truly an adventure, just like the old ad campaign said! Every three years, new friends, new schools, new weather patterns! The time I spent overseas was fun. Got to see how some of the rest of the world lives. The poverty in the PI was intense, but then Marcos was still in power, not that I've seen it get much better under newer leadership. Iceland was cold, dark (in the winter), always light (in the summer) and almost always snow on the ground! No, Keflavik was not the high point in my life! That's why I joined the Army! To make absolutely sure I'd NEVER get stationed there! After my hubby & I got married (1985), he got out of the service in '87, we got to go to Orlando for a year working for a Defense Contractor and got an opportunity to go to Okinawa for a few months. The anti-American sentiment over there was pretty strong, especially for so many American bases to be there. A tremendous impact on their economy, and they treated Americans - even more directed at women - like the lowest form of life they had ever encountered! I was totally shocked! Thank goodness I was only there for the three months and we came back to Louisville...I almost had a breakdown over there! But, snorkling in the East China Sea in November made it almost worth the trouble! That was amazing!
Anyway, hope that you are enjoying Kentucky...Have you had a chance to get to any of the Derby events? They're always a blast. We usually go Oaks Day and have loads of fun in the infield. I even got to go to the infield on Derby Day one year...That was quite an adventure as well!
Anyway, keep on 'Scapin and we're trying our durndest to get OUR SHOW BACK!

Wonderful! New Berlin....Sounds VERY familiar, but so much is German up there (Aunt's maiden is Hinterstocker - not sure of the spelling, but that's it phonetically)... We lived all over - Dad was Navy - and while we were stationed in Great Lakes (IL) we got to visit there a great deal. Aunt & Uncle lived in Hales Corners (don't know if that's a town or subdivision!) and they are now in Brookfield. One cousin & hubby are in Milwaukee and other cousin & wife are little further north - name of town escapes me now.
How are you liking Kentucky thus far? Have they converted you to the religion of basketball yet (I'm still reeling over the loss to Marquette - no I won't hold it against you if you're a fan of theirs!) ? As my hubby was born & raised here in Louisville, he's bled blue since birth, I'm a convert (LOL) to Big Blue, but love my Cats with a passion! (Just a *little* bit more than Farscape!)
Hope you're enjoying your job there in Lex, and getting to see our loverly bluegrass!
On topic here: Did you start watching Farscape from the beginning or are you like me, caught it somewhere in the middle & fell in love?
Take care!

I hope they keep having conventions, but according to those involved this is the last year for Scapercon, the last year for the Burbank Con. If we want to see any FS people we'll have to go to 'regular' sci fi conventions and if we want to talk to lots of FS fans we'll have to do it ourselves. Which isn't very likely for me...so this is it. Now or never. So I'm going. :-) I just wish everyone could go.

I didn't realize that this would be the last year for the cons.

Too bad. I'm not at a good place in my life to just take off to Chicago or California.

The hubby is wanting to put the old homestead on the market and find an bigger place. Gotta save all the pennies.

And, this summer we're taking a trip to Florida.......to Disney World for the kids.

But, IF I could do whatever I wanted.........I'd be there in a new york minute. :P

It's a pain being practical all the time. And, responsible.

p.s. Did you hear about David Bloom? (The NBC news correspondant.) He died last night from a pulmonary embolism. Which I suspect he may have gotten from traveling around in a cramped tank for hours at a time without getting much exercise. I'm in total shock. He was only 39 years old. And, I've been watching him for years. Now I truly feel that I know someone who has died in this war.

Kinda puts things into perspective. Ben , Claudia, Anth.......etc. may have lost their jobs and we may have lost our show........but they're OKAY. And, as far as we know they have their health. That's alot!!!

Nowhere, really. ADV, which releases the DVDs in the U.S. was very coy clear up to the last minute on whether they were even doing a season 2 box set, so your best bet is to keep an eye on www.advfilms.com for an announcement, and possibly to email them, which might sort of nudge them in that direction. At best, you might get an estimated date, but they seemed really reluctant to announce the date very far ahead for season 2.

Axion,

I'll make every effort to pay whatever to receive whatever channel it is shown on. And I may be able to help you out. I use a DVD recorder to capture off DirectTV Tivo, then clean it up on my PC and burn--until I can buy the ADV releases. So I have all 88 (plus a DVD dub from VHS of Farscape Undressed and Re:Union). I bought the DVD recorder and Tivo specifically for Farscape, and I still buy all ADV releases as soon as they're issued (stuff that in your demographic, Skiffy).

Axion, I strongly advise you to watch ALL eps before the mini-series airs. I have been known to loan copies, hence my name.

The quality off DirectTV on my DVD recorder is nowhere near as good as ADV (especially if you're watching on a big-screen, HDTV, or LCD--but it does have the convenience of DVD, is far superior to VHS, and keeps me in good shape 'til the ADV releases.

By the way, did you guys realize that when they repeated the last 11 episodes last spring, they ran the end credits WITHOUT all the Skiffy voice-over ads--including the critical closing of 422. I recorded it as it was meant to be seen!

P.S. Hi Chris & Susan--I've been quiet for a while--but still a complete devotee of Farscape.

Jen 10122, KY ranges from mountain areas in the east to several large cities, and very rural country and small town areas in the west. I see you are from NYC, so you are probably looking for an urban area. There are several. Louisville is the largest, and there are many people on this board that live there. I happen to live in south-central KY, in a very rural area. There are advantages and disadvantages, I personally think KY is a great state to live in. I was raised in IN, and that place sux. So, pretty much, you can get about anything you want to live in around here. Come on out and see us!!!

Do you like green rolling hills???

If you want public transit........then you're going to want to live in either Lexington or Louisville. Both really beautiful cities. I could tell you nothing about how often it runs.........I live about 45 minutes south of Lexington.

I do know.........there are lots of Drs in Lexington. Everybody drives there to get to the docs.

Rent.........is alot less than up north. I'm from CT........myself originally. (Mom and Dad are still there.) Housing costs are alot cheaper here. A house that goes for 200, 000 up north would be anywhere from about 90,000 to say 150,000 down here, depending on the neighborhood, etc. Rents.........I'm not really sure about...........but I know it would be worlds cheaper than queens!!!!!

Hope this helps. Kentucky is a beautiful state. I've been here myself twenty years. I came here to go to college and never left.

I am not kidding.

Though this legislative session rates as fairly disastrous, Rep. Stephen Riggs of Louisville entered House Resolution 274:

"HR 274 04 RS BR 2524-1
A RESOLUTION naming the Legislative Research Commission's own Jeff Fossett as Kentucky's Official International "Farscape" Ambassador.
WHEREAS, the Sci-Fi Channel's "Farscape" series follows the adventures of American astronaut John Crichton, who is catapulted to the distant edge of the universe where an intergalactic conflict rages, and his search for a way home which takes him to new worlds, an odyssey of courage for him and for viewers, a journey of the mind and heart; and
WHEREAS, the Sci-Fi channel has made a grievous error by canceling the "Farscape" series, one of the most creative and ground-breaking series seen on television; and
WHEREAS, the Legislative Research Commission's own Jeff Fossett is one of the "Farscape" program's most avid and knowledgeable supporters, as evidenced by his attendance at "Farscape" events and conventions, and his knowledge of "Farscape" episodes and trivia; and
WHEREAS, Jeff Fossett is uniquely suited to represent the Commonwealth of Kentucky and it's four million citizens as an advocate for the return of one of televisions most visionary science fiction adventures; and
WHEREAS, Jeff Fossett's enthusiasm for and knowledge of "Farscape" will enable him to lead the groundswell of public opinion, evidenced by letter writing and petition campaigns attempting to persuade the Sci-Fi channel to resume production of perhaps its most popular program;
NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:
Section 1. Jeff Fossett is hereby named Kentucky's Official International "Farscape" Ambassador; he is entitled to all honors and benefits associated with that office; and he may represent all Kentuckians in urging that "Farscape" be returned to the Sci-Fi Channel.
Section 2. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is directed to send a copy of this Resolution to Jeff Fossett, Capitol Annex, Room 24, Frankfort, Kentucky 40601, and to the Sci-Fi Channel, Universal Television, 1230 6th Avenue, New York, NY 10020."

How many other states have a legislatively recognized Farscape ambassador?

Are you kidding me with this??????????????

Really?? If this is real someone should send a copy to the Hensons.

It's funny I just went to Frankfort last week on a fieldtrip with my son. Actually, a lot of fun and quite impressive.

I agree, though about this last session. I can't believe that we're going to be operating without a budget. Our local school board has to layoff several teachers. Believe me, they're stretched as it is.

No, I'm not kidding. A former co-worker (and one of my Farscape converts) works for LRC (Legis. Research Comm.) and she said she nearly fell out of her chair when she saw the resolution. So I went to the Ky. Legislature home page, searched the official legislative record for this session--and there it was!

P.S. Did you happen to visit the History Center? That's where I work--I have a nice little conclave of Farscape fans there. Sadly, we're familiar with the cuts too.

Farscape legislation? LOL That is the wildest thing I ever heard. I'm going to trust you that it's real. Henson ought to get a big kick out of that. Been a while since I've been by here, but I'm still around. :-) Vegas! Danville? I just met someone on line from Danville whose son is with mine over in Iraq. Small world huh?

Hey.........welcome.

Until a year ago I lived in Danville, for 10 years. We moved to Harrodsburg last summer.

Of course, we still go to Danville all the time.........being only 15 minutes down the road. My kids and I really like that new statium seating movie theatre!!!
