View Full Version : Fox News wants footage NOW

MAKIKO

To any and all who are attending rallies today-

WDsection received the following from a producer at Fox News Channel:

> I work at Fox News Channel. Is there any video available of the various
> rallies, protests, posters, websites, supporters, scifi employees looking
> uncomfortable, clips of the show, and so forth???

I've written back to the producer telling her about the Fifth of Farscape weekend, and I sent her a press release about it. In order for her to air the news, she wants to couple it with footage, so this is an urgent plea to all scapers involved with today's rallies.

NOW. If anyone has a video camera, PLEASE bring it to your rally event today and try and get some footage of fans marching, holding up posters, wearing Farscape t-shirts, gathering en-masse -- any thing that looks like we're protesting in great force.

Contact media@wdsection.com or any of us on the oversight committee if you have questions, and have a great day of rallying-

Thanks!
Makiko

I'll have my camcorder in San Diego, but I'm not sure if the rally will be getting over with too late to do any good. The rally here will be done with at 5pm PST. I won't have the footage uploaded and ready until around 7pm PST. Is that too late?

Argh! Hell! I wish I'd known this last night!!! There should be a lot of bystanders at tha LA rally, simply because there is a movie-shoot happening at the same time...
Darn! Darn! Darn! Recharging battery now!

if anyone on there had a video camera. I know someone said at least one person had one..

Hope they can help you out as they had up to 68 people at the London rally. :)

We had a cameraman named Alex at DC and he was taping for Fox News and was heading up to the local station after the rally. Not sure if he made it there or not but we did and do have some footage.

DC had about 80 people there. Lotsa people having heard about it last minute and came anyways! Great turn out and a lot of fun!

I was at the Orlando Rally today and had a video camera. I've got about 2 minutes total, some of it groups of scapers in front of and inside the venue and some of it scapers saying "I am Farscape".

I live in Ft. Lauderdale. I would be glad to mail it to you or bring the tape to an affiliate station down here. I used a Compact VHS camcorder videocassette, and I don't know enough about formats to know if it can be used as is, or if I need to put it onto a regular VHS tape.

Let me know if I can help,
Toni :aok:

Hiya! I got quite a bit of good footage (must be almost 20 minutes) Scapers handing out fliers and "interviews" of people learning the news (yeah, there are still people out there who didn't know it was cancelled!)

We also got some real good stuff from impersonators (plenty around where we handed out the fliers) so we got Blade, Batman and Elvis (!) all saying I LOVE FARSCAPE :D

Let me know what I need to do, I'll try to get it all on DVD and then ripped onto my computer so I can send it electronically...

Tiriel (with a very stiff right arm from holding the frelling camera all day!) :D

(sorry about the spelling, I'm just too tired :()

First off, DC people --

That's great that Fox taped the rally -- but I believe that's your local Fox news, not Fox NEWS Network, the cable network that contacted me. Any way we can get some footage to my producer over there?

Everyone else --

If you can get the video xfered to beta, digital betacam, or beta SP, that would be ideal (most dubbing houses will do that), otherwise send it as is and we'll have Fox get it transferred over there.

I'll get you a mailing address and contact information later this afternoon.

*doing a little bump-and-grind in the name of Farscape*

So excited the rallies went well-

Makiko,

You should probably contact our Rally Coordinater if she hasn't already contacted you..Her email is dcscapers@yahoo.com.

She emailed him last nite and he was indeed doing a local Fox station but she said she let him know about the national news things. She the person you'd like to talk to. :)

Thanks! I'm trying to get in contact with another rally participant who has some editing hardware and could do the transfer to beta. If I can't get a hold of him, what are the chances to get my tape back later on? Slim, I suppose... darn! I'll check to see if I can find a dubbing house somewhere... I wanna keep the Blade coverage, that guy was simply awesome :D

Oh, did I forget to mention they were also doing interviews there (probably for Court-TV (sp?)) something about the Blake-murder and if people would watch it if it was on TV. As I was wearing my SAVE FARSCAPE shirt I volunteered :D God, I hope they don't cut that part...

Love and Peace and Always the Right Video-Format :)

Hiya MAKIKO!

I got in contact with our "editor" and he'll pick up the tape later today and get it into beta by tomorrow (so I can pick it up). That means, I should be able to mail it first thing Tuesday morning.

Let me know about the address and how urgent it is (if I need to overnight it).

Thanks :)

Hey all--

From our friend at Fox News Channel -- please send all rally footage along to her, properly identified as "Farscape rally footage." And note that she needs tapes xfered to beta (digital betacam or beta SP), so you'll need to find a place to do that in your area. If that's not possible, contact someone at the wdsection oversight committee and we'll try and work out a way to help you do that.

Note from Amy Bennett, producer, FNC, below.

Amy Bennett
Fox News Channel

I'll screen them and get them on our affiliate news feed, and let you know
when they're going out. That way you could encourage people to call their
local FOX station and ask them to cover the story (meaning, the station
checks their feed and uses the footage). You know 'Scapers are always
willing to work for Farscape!

I'll try to find a name of someone at the Fox affiliate here in NYC, WNYW.
They are separate from us here at FNC. Unless you already have a contact
there...

OH, and if there are any soundbites (people on tape talking about the rally,
the show, etc), it's proper to identify them, but if that's impossible,
don't worry. Also, I've got to have Beta, we can't transfer from mini-VHS
here!

***

Send 'em on, folks! This is potentially a great thing for us.

xxx,
Makiko

Ok, well, I have an old beta machine in the storage closet - haven't used it in years and the tapes are old too... but I'll try to copy it today. I don't know if it will work. If it doesn't I'll contact the oversight committee.

Also, I tried looking up "dubbing company" in the yellow pages, but couldn't find anything. I'm in Ft. Lauderdale so there's got to be someone here who does that sort of thing, if I can't get my beta to work, but I don't know what else to look them up under. Any suggestions?

Wish me luck,
Toni

Okay, what you want to look for is something like a "video transfer" facility. This'll be the same place that xfers PAL (Euro format) tapes to NTSC for US. Lots of times electronics shops offer this service or will know where to get it done -- ask at a local Radio Shack.

Thanks!
Makiko

ALSO- you don't want to dub it onto a standard BetaMax tape, because I'm not sure Fox will have the capability to play those. What you need is digital beta tape (as opposed to VHS which is analog) -- commonly either called "digital betacam" or "beta SP." You can buy the tapes for....$2? and get the transferring done at a facility.

Great! I'll look up "video transfer" and if I can't find anything, I'll check out the Radio Shack.

Thanks for the help,

I looked up video transfer and found a place nearby who will do it for $25. I will get it done today and send it out Priority Mail.

I'm kinda glad my old beta isn't good for this... I didn't really want to have to try and find it in the very full storage closet. :rollin:

On the move,
Toni

Hiya! Just picked up the tape and will hopefully get to express-mail it tomorrow morning.

It's never as easy as it looks...

I'll make another short post once the tape is off tomorrow :)

OK, the tape went off this morning and should get to NY by tomorrow :)

I wanna see the Blade dude on TV! If they actually show him, I gotta make a copy for him :)

All fingers crossed :)

HELL YEAH!!!! Particularly if he got Lani and Giggi etc on it!!! Have him (her?) contact the guys at media-relations ASAP, I'm sure there has to be some good coverage there!

Good luck!!!

I am a tiny bit worried - news usually needs to be 'fresh' - if we only send in video footage *now*, will that not already be 'old' news for the networks?

Alrighty, will do. :)

The spots we did for Speaker's Corner at the Toronto Rally are apparently going to be shown on the Space Channel (on segments they do called "Hypa Space"). I wonder if Fox news would accept that - being that it's kind of part of some other station's news bits?

Hmpf, for it to be news it has to be same-day, or better just a few hours. Next day is acceptable for print-media, but there are always reports covering larger time-frames or reporting about specific subjects.
Prime would be if they used the coverage in a report about the fan-effort to save the show (which appears to be the real news-worthy part for them), which would probably be a few minutes long and give us huge exposure... but *if* they do something like that, might depend on what the ratings look like in January... if they're really high, they'd report, giving us more exposure and even higher ratings... kinda like a vicious cycle, just good :D

Right now it looks like some of us in LA might try to get an entire report patched up (filming over the next couple of month) and if there is enough high-quality footage and we do some of the editing for them, then maybe we can interest someone into actually airing it, that would be awesome :)

Love and Peace and Good PR :)

BTW ... http://www.freepilot.org ... I think he most likely will put it up in Digital form on his website, soon.

He has this blurb here on his website:

Orlando and Atlanta photos are here. Atlanta video coming soon.

So, looks like he's already in the process of digitizing it.

He also has this link here:

http://forsite.net/drake/freepilot/rally/rallies.html

about the rallies.

You can also e-mail him at:

freepilot@bellsouth.net

Just be sure that they mention his website as the credit, as it's only fair, and he's done a wonderful job of having info for us to use.

just received a confirmation from Amy :) :) My tape got there alright and she also mentioned a tape from Orlando! She'll try to get the stuff out by Friday for possible weekend-coverage, so maybe it's not to late for the Atlanta footage to get there! She'll contact me again as soon as she knows more :)
Anyway, we should all prepare to get ready to call our local Foxes to pester them to check their news-feed :D

I'll repost this on the main board to...

Love and Peace and Good News :)
