This is a slightly (uhm, vastly?!) extended version to what I already wrote in the thread about footage for FOX.
First of thanks to MusicalGal for pulling this off and getting us all together for such a fun day :) :)
The turnout was fairly low, I think we were only 16 people (compared to the over 70 of the last event) but we made everyone count for five :D And as had to be expected, it was the second hottest day of the week! But thankfully we managed to stay in the shade most of the time (largely due to one of the production trucks :D) so we only got severly and not lethaly dehydrated :D
We had lots of fliers, and two poster, one being an oversized Aeryn (from the ratscape-type)... you gotta love that girl :D
We met at Henson's and then walked on to the Chinese Theater (for those who have never been there: It's on Hollywood Blvd aka the Walk of Fame and in front of the Theater is where some stars have their hand and foot-prints cast in concrete). At the same time they were shooting a movie there and had the street closed off, but there were still lots of people around.
I read the call for footage just before I left and therefor managed to bring my camera and that's where all the fun started :D I just wanted to take some shots of Scapers in colourful shirts (and fancy hats! Not to forget the fancy hats!) handing out fliers and waving huge posters and while I was filming happily away this guy jumps out from the side, right in front of the shot and he's dressed like and giving a good impression of Blade and says "Don't worry FarScape! We will bring you back!" LOL! This IS Hollywood after all :D
So we started to think just how cool it would be if we had Blade (and that guy looked pretty close) look into the camera and say "Blade LOVES FarScape!" So I asked and he was totally up for it (that guy was such a great sport :)). So we set everything up for the shot and consequently people start gathering around us... I don't know about other places, but that's what happens in LA everytime there is a camera around... This IS Hollywood after all :D
And that led to the next idea! What if we did the flier handing out "interview" style? Aha! People would stand still and listen! So we went on to do that and it was a RIOT! I think a lot of people took fliers when they saw we were also doing the interview thing (but my eye was surgically attached to the damn camera, so I have no clue what happened behind my back ;)). We got some great footage! This one lady was the best, she's like "But... but how could they cancel THAT show?! it was REALLY good! I mean, it was really the only thing worth watching on SciFi!" And I'm just shouting "YEEES!! Could you please say that again, but this time INTO the camera?!?!" But sadly she was too shy, she almost ran away! Which of course is also on camera and hilarious :D :D :D :D
There were lots of good reactions from people who knew the show but hadn't heard about the cancellation and at some point I took to always asking at the end, just when they turned to walk "One last question? DO YOU LOVE FARSCAPE?" All the reactions were great :)
We also got a Batman and an Elvis impersonator to do the "I love Farscape" bit, which was fun (lost Crocodile Dundee, though, that woulda been great, with his thick Australian accent :D)
During the day it turned out that one of the Scapers present actually works at an editing studio (he's getting the tape into beta-format as I'm typing, LOVE YA MAN!) and another is a Sound Editor (but he didn't have his good gear along, because he didn't expect we could use it). So because the entire thing was so much fun and seemed to work so well, we decided to do a few more of these stunts in different locations like Venice (Muscle) Beach and Santa Monica Third Street Prominade, but with proper setup and proper sound and all.
In the end we shot almost 20 minutes of footage, lets see if we can get some of it on Fox :)
Thanks again to MusicalGal who pulled us all together and to everyone who showed up and made this such a success :) :) :) :) Man, if nothing else, I had a great day :D
And thanks to the SaveFarscape guys for keeping everything running and organized!!! LOVE YA PEOPLE :)
So watch this space for the announcement of "Saving FarScape: The Movie" :D :D :D :D
Love and Peace and Great Publicity :)
Tiriel
PS: I'm sure I forgot lots of things (and I probably missed a lot due to having one eye closed and the other pressed to the camera ;)), but I'm sure my fellow LAScapers can add to this :)
PPS: I can move my right arm again! Yeah! :D
