To add detail to what Atlantascaper posted, the following press release went out nationally this morning:
FARSCAPE IN ATLANTA - October 10, 2002
For Immediate Release
Alerted via the internet that Farscape cast members Lani Tupu, Gigi Edgley and Paul Goddard would be returning to Atlanta for an autograph signing on Thursday, October 10th, local fans intent on saving the show immediately organized a rally to show support for the recently cancelled Jim Henson Company series.
The signing will take place at The War Room (2055-G Beaver Ruin Rd., Norcross, GA, phone 770-729-9588, www.thewarroom.com) from 5-8 p.m. Farscape fans will be rallying outside The War Room at 4:30 p.m., prior to the signing and will remain throughout the signing.
The three Farscape cast members were previously in town as part of a day of global rallies on October 5th, part of the ever-growing internet campaign
to save the critically acclaimed Jim Henson Company series.
On Oct. 5th, rallies took place in 24 cities in 6 countries across the world - including the US 82nd Airborne Division stationed in Baghram,
Afghanistan. Atlanta 'Scapers hosted the cast members at a special Farscape-themed party at alternative club The Chamber, organised by club promoter Jason Feeman and horror novelist Caitlin R. Kiernan, both long-time fans of the show. As many as 800-1,000 people attended the event.
Despite having already contracted a fifth season, Farscape was abruptly cancelled by the SCI FI Channel last month. The news was announced in an
online evening chat with series producer David Kemper, and spread across the Internet within minutes. By morning, thousands of fans had taken up
arms and embarked upon a massive campaign of letter-writing, picketing and protest. Within days, entertainment and television critics were also expressing their dismay at the series' unexpected and untimely cancellation.
The rallies are part of a long-term strategy to move the campaign off the internet and into the streets. Fans hope that by continuing to promote the series, its exceptional quality will bring more viewers when the last eleven episodes of Farscape's fourth season begin airing on SCI-FI Channel in January 2003. Fans are also appealing to UPN, Showtime, and other networks to consider picking up the show to allow the novel-like story to be completed
as planned.
---
So, what we need are warm bodies, as many as we can muster, with signs, banners, t-shirts, buttons, remote controlled DRDs, whatever you have, outside The War Room at 4:30 p.m. tomorrow afternoon before the signing. The media is saying that what they want to see are the fans, not the cast. So, again, we need fans to show. This is a last chance for Atlanta to help make up for the lack of media attention this past weekend. Please make every effort to attend. If we can get 800-1,000 people at The Chamber, surely we can get 25-50 at The War Room.
