View Full Version : Research SuperTeam (tm) needed
fialka
10-17-2002, 07:05 PM
Wanted: People willing to do on-the-spot research projects. None of this requires specialised knowledge, just the willingness to do crazy things like watch Enterprise and list the advertisers, look up marketing contacts, help us round things up for archival and for press kits, etc. Most projects will require no more than an hour or two on the internet (you all hate hanging on the internet, right? Never go there myself :P), the problem is the staff here are all presently stretched to the max.
Rather than put individual requests out on the boards and pray for response, I'd like to gather a permanent SuperTeam of people that can be tapped immediately for on-the-spot research, as well as to work together to dole out the larger assignments between them.
So if you're looking for a concrete way to help *and* see instant results displayed on the site for everyone to use, this is a job for you. We've got tons of great ideas sitting on back burners -- help us do the basic legwork to get things started. Special preference given to those that want to discover the joys of living on-call on IM . :D

I can help with things if absolutely necessary (ie no one else will step up and take care of it). I'm trying very hard to not over extend myself here, even though I'm having a lot of fun with the campaign! :D
If my schedule loosens up some, and I'm able to help more, I'll let you know. ;)

I've put out two projects already, and I'm collecting stuff from the rest of the team that's been languishing unfinished. If I haven't tapped you for something yet, don't worry, I will <g>. I'll post the list of who's doing what here as soon as I've doled everything out.
Of the people who said they could do lists of advertisers from TV eps, could you pm me if you've got tapes of Enterprise from this season you could look at? I *know* you all taped FS <g>.
fialka
10-22-2002, 06:22 AM
Right, of those who haven't already been tapped for a project, who's been taping Farscape this year?
And...still got work for willing hands, if you're lurking, looking for a way to help.
grapeshot
10-22-2002, 02:48 PM
I've been taping the eps this year. AND I have all of the commercials that aired with the eps (except for 4.1). PLUS, I have a duplicate tape (4.8) that I made while in Oregon (I live in Wisconsin) which also shows the ads out there. --I'm not certain, but not all the ads are the same in all regions during the show.
I had promised to make a set of season 4 tapes for a friend, so they can catch up, so I'll be viewing them again anyway.

Hanging out this weekend, recovering from Halloween? Or...just hanging out? <g>
Saccodent is doing such a great job listing all the FS advertisers, we can't keep up. Anyone not involved in research for the media project who would like to spend a few hours this weekend looking up advertiser contacts, please send me an email: fialka@watchfarscape.com.
Also still looking for anyone who's got 401 with commercials and wouldn't mind listing the advertisers there.
Thanks! :aok:

I got it, VBKatLou, thanks!
Last couple of eps are on their way to the last lucky volunteers <g>. Thanks to all of you who've worked on this project -- the addresses we've been sending out on the last lists were all from your hard work and they've saved us hours. I've done enough of this research myself to know how elusive those names are, so every one you've come up with is like handing us a sack of gold. Every letter is 100 times more effective when sent to an actual person, rather than a generic address.
As soon as I've got everything back I'll get the complete version up on the site. I'd like that to be by the 15th, so if you've still got stuff to research, double gratitude if you could finish it this weekend. If you're booked up with RL, no problem, just wing back what you have and I'll pass it on. We've got plenty of willing hands to pick up from those that need a rest.

If there is something I can do, please let me know. You mentioned watching Enterprise, which I was able to do last season, unfortunately, we are not getting it this season, for some reason. (We don't get UPN. If, somehow, Farscape ends up on UPN, we will be getting a sattelite, I don't care what it takes!!!)
I also have a small child, and due to work shifts, am virtually a single parent. Any legwork would have to be limited due to the young one. However, if there is anything that I can help with, I want to feel like I'm DOING something.
Please, let me know.

Before you get all snide, you might want to stop and think.
Once upon a time we needed research on media contacts (editors at various newspapers around the country) and research on advertisers' contacts. There are literally hundreds of newspapers in the US, and researching all the various editors at each one is quite time-consuming. We thought it would be a good idea to divide up these tasks. It is also quite time-consuming to track down the exact names of various marketing directors at various firms that advertised during the past summer's broadcasts.
This is a pretty old thread, and I don't know that we need this research anymore.

Hello fellow scapers,
I am responding to the post that requested volunteers to research "Enterprise" and write down the advertisers that support this particular show. Call me dense, but I fail to see how this will bring "Farscape" back to television or (dare I dream) motion pictures. I have another question; is the campaign for "Farscape" still on? Is there any possibility that another network will pick up the show? I'm addicted to that show like Rick James is addicted to crack. Please tell there's hope of the show coming back on the air.
Sincerely,
Jay Raval

Hi Jay welcome to the board! :) to answer your first question. I think the reason Enterprise is a good target is because UPN who show it are one of the channels/networks we are hoping will pick up the show. I guess the intent is to say to advertisers if you guys encourage UPN to get Farscape you can buy more advert space because us as fans will be watching and may buy your products.. In otherwords... we have money to spend... give us a reason to spend it on you guys by helping us out. There is always some method in our madness! :D
I have another question; is the campaign for "Farscape" still on?
*rubs eyes* have you seen how many recent posts there on this board? We are all very much still on as a campaign.... you can't keep us scapers still for a second.. we always have something on the boil... :)
