I would like to request more 'Watch Farscape' posters (you can find these at the Farscape e-card site) I went postering the other day and someone saw a watch farscape poster and started talking to me. It was a Scaper who didn't know about the cancellation!!!:eek:

Who should I do next guys? I was thinking Durka, or maybe a better Einstein (I don't like the first one I did, it was done from a bad vidcap and an odd angle which made it difficult to see differences in light and shadow.)

I like the jena poster you did.
Would you be able to put some these in brighter colours. (lets just say where I am from it is dark or very grey for half of the year, due to our 'National nightmare' called winter). Brighter colours are much easier to notice in the winter time (yes, I put up posters in the winter. Usually you can put up 10 b4 losing the feeling in your fingers:P )

Praetorian, despite your modesty, I think your work is every bit as good as Ratscape's ... it's just different in feel.

His work is very reminiscent of those severe fascist and communist propaganda posters from the mid 20th century (especially his new Keep the Peace stuff), but yours is... and I suspect from your avatar that this observation will not be objectionable to you ... more anime in feel.

I like both styles a lot... though in the slide show I'm using as a screensaver I put your stuff and his stuff in separate groups.

That screensaver has drawn some very interested queries from my office mates, and I'm planning a showing to two of them to get some more converts...

... so your efforts and Ratscape's are demonstrated GREAT advertising as far as I am concerned!:aok:

Hi Umm .. I really like the posters, but umm... maybe you could move them to a new thread. The subjsct has kinda drifted a little.:confused:

And about the colours. I guess I mean brighter and vibrant (I'm sorry if it's not helping much:( ) like yellow, a blue with no greys in it, umm, red, pink:confused: I'm not exactly good with colours but anything with a lot of Bluey grey won't catch a passerby's attention in the winter (I poster in areas where there are usually posters up already) and the bighter colour ones(like durka for instance) REALLY POP OUT against a grey or black backgound (or overcast skies) They practically grab a passerby's attention I hope it clears things up. Thanks for being so patient and answering back:)

Ok, I see what you're saying now. Yeah, the thing is I actually prefer more muted and darker colors. :p I will try and make some brighter ones though.

I would ask him for it, but he probably paid for it and I don't want to ask him to give to me what he had to buy...

... I'd replace Wilson (3 of diamonds) with Furlow.
... I'd replace Plonek (Queen of Clubs) with Ahknah (the red femail scarran with the hat)
... and switch Rygel and Moya (Rygel, being Dominar, should be King of Hearts)

If these posters can be scaled down they would be very good link images for all those webmasters out there that have websites but no nessarily Farscape sites. We of course of the link banners but these would be on a smaller scale. Kind of like the badge/icon the Farscape webmasters use. 100px x 100px or whatever is to proportion would be good enough I think.

Feel free to do whatever ya want with them, it's a copyright violation to sell them I'm sure, so keep that in mind when you make physical copies. I would like to retain come kind of connection to them, but so long as they play a role in reviving Farscape I don't care what happens to them :)

I will happily make changes on good suggestions. I DID completely forget Furlow! I also don't have any decent images from the cool looking scarrans at the end of season 4. If anybody has any good ones please send them to me.

I'm gonna implement Trubador's and Selina's suggestions as soon as possible. Will update when I get the images.

I haven't decided on a back for the cards yet, somebody suggested they should say "save farscape" and give a url with lots of info, like savefarscape.com which is a good idea.

I looked into printing, and it's sure not cheap, and they prefer to keep it under 4 colors. I'm not sure if the images I used can be reduced to 4 colors. somebody out there has to photographic cards, I mean I've seen 'dirty' decks before :) Oh well, the search goes on.

Blindingforce: Are you resizing the .gif I posted? If so, convert it to RGB and then resize, and the image should come out looking a whole lot better. Since you're sizing down, quality loss isn't a problem.

If you copy the image and paste it into a blank photoshop document, then increase the pixel density to something large (600+) and then shrink the image it should come out relatively nice when you save it as a gif or jpg.

Actually screen resolution is only 72 dpi so if you scale it up and then scale it back down you're going to get the same thing. The high quality pictures you see are actually because the original was a high res version scaled down so it has more pixels to work with. When you resample an image from 72 to say 600 the computer randomly inserts pixels and when you shrink it then it randomly takes them away. If I'm working with a 72 dpi image to begin with it's not going to make much of a difference...that is unless it's being used for print instead of on screen which doesn't pertain to this. Line art such as the posters will actually come out sharper as gifs and photos as jpegs just because of the tones and colors, or lack there of. I appreciate the comments and the help but it's really just a matter of me doing it really quick and not working from an original. If the artist does these himself it's going to come out in a higher quality because he's working from the actual file and not a flattened gif. I wasn't talking about somebody sending me an original file. I thought about that after I wrote it and I would never ask to do that. Just wanted to clarify and to give some info on resizing.

There's program called Fractals (or something similar) that mycattoldme told me about. It will enlarge an image and increase the resolution of an image without much distortion.

yeah it works. I've used it myself before but again from what I've used it for it was mostly for print. It works much in the same way in terms of resampling and if it ups the res to make a crisper higher res image that's great. It's just an extra plugin to get.

Your style has certainly evolved, Praetorian, and this new style you've come up with is very impressive.

I'd use an adjective to categorize this style and how it differs from some other stuff out there (say, from the severe propaganda posters and the stark wanted posters of ratscapes equally impressive art), but I'm half afraid I'd slight you in my ignorance. What would you call it?

I think what really makes or breaks these posters is the awesome color palette being used. D'Argo in particular...you just never see muted colors like that. Great job!

It's great when you're up till 4am working and you go onto the forum and you find this kind of work. Amazing use of space. Best part of this image is the hair on top of his head. Your eyes fill in the space. (Edit: I love the colors as well. Normally you would think green but this palette is great. One thing i'd like to ask is what color swatches do you use...or is it custom? The designer in me is curious)

Only thing i can suggest is to put more leading space between Wanted and Farscape Season 5. Not too much. maybe another 1.8 of an inch. Just seems too close to me. The colon is almost touching the 5...but this is me after just working on a layout.

Well, when I actually work on the image, I'm pretty ambivilant with my color use. Usually base color, darker shade of that, then black for the harsh shadows. Once everything is done, then I go through the color picker and just drag around until I find something that feels right, then I find a darker/complimentary shade for the shadow, and an even darker/complimentary shade to replace the black.

Also, thanks for the suggestion about the text. I moved the colon to a more appropriate area and centered the "Wanted:" text. I think it looks a lot better. :D

That's a great design, but the color combination is not the best. Let me tell you why. My local copy shop owner told me the very best color combo for color contrast is black on yellow. If you look closer at yours in green, the smaller text seems to disappear. Switch from green to yellow and see what happens!:D

@Jeffrabb: I'll try and play a little with the color and see how it will turn out. Although the "Personal File" part was just intended as something like a watermark, to make the green background less empty, if you know what I mean. Hadn't thought so far as to printing it out. :)
Maybe for the print I should make the text easier to read...
