View Full Version : Have you bought a copy of the Season 1 Box Set???
We need your help 'Scapers :) We're trying to determine how many Scapers have bought their box set, are planning on buying a box set, etc.... These numbers can and may be used in future projects that we're working on here at SaveFarscape.com.

I'd like to know from the ppl who have bought a copy of the box set, if there are any special features in it, over and above, the individual DVD's?

I don't have the regular DVDs - wouldn't have bought the box if I did! - but I lusted after them for quite some time before the box was announced. Based on what I remember from pawing at the individual releases every time I was at Best Buy, it looks to me like all they did was take the existing discs, package them in six double cases instead of eleven single ones, and put them in a cardboard box.
Also, a word of warning to anybody who uses a Playstation 2 as a DVD player: it can't play these discs properly. The video and audio on some episodes skips to the point where they're unwatchable. I don't blame the discs for this, I blame the PS2 for having sketchy hardware and software for playback; they play just fine on both of my computers. So the boxed set pushed me over the edge of "I sure could use a real DVD player!" and I went ahead and bought a 5 disc changer to watch the rest on. Almost half a season at my fingertips without having to stand up. Oh yes. :D

I watch all my dvd's on my PS2 and have never had a problem with any playback or features on it.
I bought all S1 before box set was out, but from teh features I've seen listed at various websites, they are the same as the individual dvd's.

I already have all the individual DVDs, so won't be buying the box set for myself, but Christmas is coming .... ;)

I think the PS2 thing varies by hardware revision and DVD driver version. Mine's been flaking out on a bunch of other discs for a while now, all of which have been perfectly clean and play fine on other players (meanwhile, the PS2 continues to read games on both DVD and CD just fine). I've tried it with both the built-in DVD driver (1.30U on my console) and the upgraded one that came with the DVD remote (2.10U) and they were both hopelessly flaky.
Maybe it's not even that clear cut, it might be completely random. All I know for sure is these and many other discs don't work right on my console, and others have had similar problems with DVD playback on that system. I'm not wishing it on anybody else and I'm glad to hear that they work OK on some PS2s, I'm just saying that it's a problem people might encounter. If you haven't already, I say buy the set, try 'em out, and if your PS2 freaks out like mine did, ask Santa for a nice progressive scan DVD player this year. ;)

Like Dominar of Action, I'm contemplating buying the boxed set for someone for Christmas....
If I got a REALLY good deal, I might even buy it for myself, even though I DO have all the individual DVDs..... Just trying to decide how best to spend my money!

My box finaly came from amazon.ca on Tuesday (one week after placing the order). I've only had time to watch the commentaries for Premier, IET and Exodus on my room mate's PS2 (the DVD driver that comes w/ the remote). So far I've only had one problem. It skipped at the beginning of IET when Anth introduces himself...

:bounce: I'm going to Best Buy tonight to get a DVD player and my first DVD purchase will be the Season 1 box set. Not sure if I'll get that at Best Buy or search for a better price online, but I'll take care of it one way or the other by this weekend.
Totally stoked, but dreading hooking up the DVD along with the Tivo and broadband -- I nearly wigged out with the broadband upgrade a few months ago. :thud:

Pre-ordered the Box from amazon.com at the end of September and got my first DVD player to go with it! I love the commentaries and video profiles, I just wish there were more of both.... and the individul S2 releases only have had one commentary so far?!?! What the Frell?

I pre-ordered the box set from buy.com and paid about $90 for it. It arrived early last week. :)
The commentaries were taken out because of budget concerns according to ADV. *shrug* not sure if I believe them, but I can only tackle one campaign at a time. :D

I pre-ordered the R2 Box Set from www.amazon.co.uk in late September and I'm still waiting for the delivery.
My account states: Items Not Yet Dispatched
Delivery estimate: October 17 - October 21 :(
That's definitely the last time I ordered from amazon.
Oh, and for the statistics: I already have the individual R2 Sets of Season 2 and 3, waiting for Season 4 in February. :)

I have the R2 Sets of Season 3.

so I'll probably not buy the box set. Redundant, if you know what I mean. However, I did buy the Season 3 Special Editions that were offered in the UK and I really, really love them.
I'm buying Season 2 in Region 1 as it comes out and I'll probably wait and buy Season 3 as a Region 1 box set, too.
I would say that I have spent on Farscape dvds alone close to a $1000.00, so I would consider myself a huge consumer for Farscape products if you also count magazines, action figures, photos, posters, etc. etc. that I also own.

I already have been slowly accruing the individual disks. Perhaps foolishly, I went ahead and ordered the boxed set anyway. I am probably going to donate the redundant disks to my public library, who haven't bought any yet!

DRD Pike, did you contact Amazon about the failure to ship? I have always gotten exceptional customer service from them, and they've taken great pains to make up for the two mistakes they've made in my 4-year, $3000+ purchasing history. Of course, this is the US arm of Amazon I'm dealing with, but it is definitely worth an email to them...

I recently just signed on to the sSave Farscape campaign, so you guys wouldn't know me. Anyways I read about the effort to put Farscape on the top of the box office charts so I rented two of the DVDs. The next day my friend goes over and tells me that the boxed set has been out for awhile, so I had to go buy that, too!

Hi, taiidani. :hi:
Glad you've decided to join our sometimes dysfunctional, Jerry Springer-type family  We need everyone willing to roll up their sleeves and get the word out to let casual FS viewers know they need to tune in come January, to convert as many new viewers as we can, and most importantly, to create more public awareness of Farscape. If we do all three of these things, I think we might have a shot at the 2.0 come next year!
Again, welcome! And bring your friends over too!

Hi Jul!
I bought the boxed set of season one as a backup present for the holidays. I went through Amazon hoping to increase their sales and get us some best seller recognition.
I'm assuming it's the same as the DVDs I bought that were released two episodes at a time.

This is the best DVD investment I've made so far! Now I just need a hardware DVD decoder. (software emulation was okay but skips too much)
I'm not sure what's on the Best of Farscape set -- I've only been interested in the full season. But here's what I thought was the "Best of Farscape" from Season 1:
- PK Tech Girl
- They've Got a Secret
- The Flax
- Through the Looking Glass
- Nerve
- The Hidden Memory

Just as an FYI - there are 2 DVDs per folder in the box set. Saw a discussion on another board where people were thinking that they tried to put 4 episodes on 1 DVD and it might interfere with the visual quality.
I ordered my box set from amazon.com last September (I was afraid they would sell out!). Didn't receive it until after it came out in the stores. Paid $112 at amazon vrs the $89 at Best Buy. Oh well ........that'll learn me!

From Amazon.com (priced about $40)
Best of Farscape Season One DVD set is 3 disks and includes:
6 Episodes (full titles for newbies like me) ;)
Premiere
DNA Mad Scientist
A Human Reaction
Nerve
The Hidden Memory
Family Ties
*Commentary by Ben Browder and Claudia Black
*Notes from each episode from Farscape's creator and executive producer Rockne S. O'Bannon
*Documentary "Making of a Space Opera"
*Character profiles
Of course the full season set is just a little over twice that (depending where you shop), and includes all 22 episodes plus all the extras.

Buy.com's prices for all the FS DVDs are lower than Amazon's. I got the Best of DVD (to send to a friend) for $28. You can preorder the 2.4 disk there as well for $24.99 (is it just me, or does the preorder discount seem to be a bit less?)
And shipping is free!

No new content over the normal R2 editions, but you get 'gifts' with them.
Essentially you get a horrible tacky watch, a comms badge, qualta blade replica, mouse mat, 12 limited edition prints in a Farscape binder, an animation cell from 'Revenging Angel' (a replica!), a few collectors postcards and a really dubious schematic of Talyn.
R2 has fewer extras ( we really get stiffed on the commentaries!) , but each season is split into just 5 double dvd volumes.
The first three seasons are all available over here (UK).

I ordered the set online and started watching it from the moment I received it. I'm a fairly new fan, so I haven't seen all the episodes. Now I'm thinking about buying a DVD player that'll play all regions so I can get season 2 and 3 on DVD from Britain.

Buy.com they had the cheapest price if you include their shipping charges.
I spent 105.47 for it including shipping (no Tax). Unfortunately that was a presale price and it is now 111.00.
I've only had time to watch disk one but I forgot how funny the first episode was, it had been soooo long!

I want to get it but am hampered by two things... No DVD player, and no money to get a DVD player . . . solve those two things and you get another problem, no money to get the set. Also I'm not even sure they'd ship it here. I had problems getting computer games from amazon.

The litho sketches ARE nice, as is the mouse mat and the postcards. :aok:
Unfortunately the qualta blade is terrible, looking a novelty biro that got frelled over by a Scarran. :D
I bet nobody will try to defend (let alone wear) the watch though.... even the battery has already died of embarassment! :ewink:
As an FYI, orderbox.com is selling the Season 1 box set for 82.17. Shipping is $2.98, so they're definitely one of the cheapest around. I've found them to have the lowest prices on dvds I've seen anywhere else online.
Also, for Region 2 dvds, I cannot recommend blackstar.co.uk highly enough. They're quick, just as cheap as amazon if you preorder and they have the best customer service I've ever dealt with.

Well, Farscape has just appeared on DVD, here in France, so I've bought the first box set, which contains only the fisrt 6 episodes !
Two following box sets are supposed to appear on january, and the last one should be on the shelves in March.

You can change one of those "planning to buy" votes to "I've bought it!" Picked up my copy for a great price of $79.99 (hooray for tax-free New Hampshire) and am absolutely loving it. Especially the commentary by various people on the episodes. My only wish is that they would provide commentary for every episode (oh, and nix those foolish anime commercials in front of the menu).
Off to eat turkey and then watch "Back and Back and Back to the Future" :D

Now I have to start rounding up the ones for S2, 3, etc. They are taking WAY too long to release them for me...:headbang:...with no reruns, I need to get caught up on all those episodes I missed! I'd rather have pre-recorded ones than downloaded ones! And whole season boxed sets are nicer, too.

Two top things on my Christmas list:

2. DVD Player to watch Farscape Season 1 Box Set.
Since I was given my technophobic mother's credit card to order the box set for my christmas present, I'm guessing I'll be getting item #2 also.

I have not bought the box set, but I plan to someday. Being laid off makes the purchase impossible, listing at $150 (US) would have made it tough even when I had a job.
On the other hand, a friend showed me somewhere that I *could* afford to buy it from once I get a job again. I plan to buy season 1 within 2 months of getting a job.

Yeah, Season 1 box was my x-mas gift to myself. I am currently lending out the discs though, so I can entice new fans at work. The picture and sound quality on DVD is amazing - much better than my fuzzy (waste of money) cable connection. However, it is said "fuzzy (waste of money)" connection that allows me to view the new eps.
A good investment in any case - use it to draw in new fans. I have made each person that borrows a disc promise to write at least one letter to Sci Fi. Not a bad trade. The premiere case has four eps on it - about 3 and a half hours of killer entertainment for a 20 minute letter...they'll want to write a letter eventually on their own initiative, but they'll need to see several eps.
Anyone know when Season 2 box set will be avail? Or 3 or 4, for that matter?

The Season One boxed set is great, because the deleted scenes are placed back in the episode. Also, when someone asks to see a particular episode, just lend them the individual sets. This way you never have to be without an ep.
Am waiting ever so impatiently for all the other episodes to be released on DVD. Frell the thought that these are released in Europe before America. I do envy the 'Old Country. '

Hey, why hasn't Season 2 been released as a box set yet? Will I have to contact ADV to get the answer? And are the deleted scenes only incorporated into the eps in the box set or are all the scenes included in any DVD recording of Farscape?
During X-mas, there was a update posted about locations that carried Farscape materials/movies. Could this be revived and made accessible to the newcomers and others that might be interested? Includes prices, locations, and items...etc? Just as an informational distribution source? Or is that silly?
:scramble:
no, not silly at all... we put those up as part of the "Give the Gift of Farscape" campaign during the holidays, and we'd be more than happy to pull those back up and revise the locations if you'd like us to :)
and Season 2 has not been released as a box set yet because ADV is not sure if they will make it a box set at this point. I believe there's a thread in the campaign strat forum regarding this topic, if you're interested in participating in the discussion :)

Yes, I think that would be a great idea...kinda like a promotional reminder - especially for newbies...Showing locations and price would be completely beneficial to the companies that need the numbers in proof that there is a "rabid fan base"...and this is a direct purchase situation.
My suggestion is to make it easily accessible from the homepage though.

I can't update the Poll because I already voted some time ago but over the last month I've bought 2 season 1 box sets for family members as birthday gifts. Neither of these people were Farscape fans prior to this. Both have been astonished at how funny and good the show is (but we already know that) and are now Farscape fans.

I would love to have the box set. Actually I would like a season 2 or 3 box set better. I've spent way too much money on my ferret over the past month. She had a bunch of test and surgery. I could have bought 4 or 5 box sets for what she cost me, but she's cute and fuzzy and I couldn't not spend the money. Maybe for my birthday.:aok: Let's hope.

:ejest: I have purchased all farscape episodes released thus far in the United States. I think that purchasing the box set of season 1 would be a wonderful gift for my nephew whom I have recently turned on to the Frascape galaxy is a great idea. I believe that making these purchases should send a clear signal to Sci-fi that there are people out there who want to know how it really ends. I for one was very disappointed in the way they left us hanging with such a down conclusion to the series.

Giving the gift of Farscape, excellent idea:D Even if SCI FI doesn't get the message, ADV Films and Henson certainly will:aok:

I just purchased the Season 1 boxed set (and a DVD player so I could watch it!) My daughter (21) has promised to watch Farscape with me as her birthday present to me (that's what I asked for). Should I start with the first episode and make her watch the season consecutively, or should I be more selective? Anybody have any advice on which episodes and in what order? I have almost all other episodes (all seasons) on VHS.
She is not a SciFi fan, and will watch it with me to keep her promise, but of course, the point is to infect her (am I a terrible mother, desiring to infect her child with this disease?), in hopes that not only will she gain a great deal of enjoyment but will also infect others.
Is this the correct forum/thread for this question? I am brand new in this "community" and this is my very first experience using "forums" and "threads" and "posting" replies (or new threads, and what's the difference between replying and starting a new thread etc.?) Tried to reply to something earlier today, and I don't think it worked! If I need to be somewhere else with these questions, please let me know.....

:hi: jayelsee! :rollin: The chance to infect another potential Scaper! That's quite a present;)
Since you say your daughter isn't a scifi fan, it might be better to be selective in what you watch with her. What does she like? Action? Romance? Comedy? Drama? Find the best eps that highlights what she really enjoys:D
You could also go with the epsiodes from the Best of Season One set. This includes 'Premiere,' DNA Mad Scientist,' 'A Human Reaction,' 'Nerve,' 'The Hidden Memory,' and 'Family Ties,' all excellent eps.:)

You can post just about anywhere and get the answers you need;) Starting a new thread would be starting an entirely new topic like "Have You Bought a Copy of the Season One Box Set?" You'd be the originator of the thread, and people would post a reply to your main topic. Or go off on a tangent, as sometimes happens.

RescueFarscape (aka petition_girl), thanks for the advice on which episodes to use for my daughter's indoctrination! I think I might go with the "best of" selection, am starting my "preview review" tonight.
She is definitely NOT the "Jackass--The Movie" type. Actually, after I read your message, started thinking about what she likes, and realized she and I agree quite a bit. And I forgot that she really liked LOTR (both movies) and she watched and liked "Roswell" when she was younger and it first came on TV (I never saw it, but she loved it, told me all about it). She's really interested in character development and motivation, and I guess that's really what makes Farscape stand out so much from most other scifi for me....
Thanks for your advice, and words of encouragement. I'll check out Kansas.

Barnes & Noble online store (Barnes&Noble.com) has season 1 box set on sale for $89.98 (free shipping if you order 2 items, any thing, any price). I bought mine from Best Buy online (I think it was $114). I knew I could have gotten it a little cheaper, but I wanted to be able to write them honestly that I had purchased from them because they advertised on Farscape.

Sure, you can post it. They advertise it as part of their "sizzlin' summer sale annex" (which includes DVD box sets) but they're a little vague about whether it's a temporary or permanent sale.
I have ordered several times from B&N online and they have always been fast (usually around 3 days) and accurate.

I have the full first season. Lent it to my shrink after getting into a discussion about the Human Condition.
I may have also quoted Criton's little "Hope" line. Words to live by.
Farscape helped me a lot, especially when I was feeling low after leaving my wife. She was kind of a Scorpius figure now that I think about it. Anyway, it sort of brought me back to reality, being able to slip away into that fantasy world really saved my sanity.

I just got the First Season Collection on DVD, watched it all in 2 and a half days. WOW! I forgot how much I loved the show. There is only one other show that I like as much (well OK I like Farscape better) and that was Buffy the Vampire Slayer (just got Season 4 of that one). I was just wondering... Are all the other episodes out, but not in boxed sets? I am guessing there are 6 Volumes for each season, but I am a little leery of buying the individual ones and missing some.

Welcome Friendly!:hi:
ADV has released all the episodes here in the US up to ep 9 of season three. The next release is scheduled for August 12. That set includes Infinite Possibilites parts 1&2, Revenging Angel, The Choice and Fractures, I believe.
There are five volumes for season two (2.1, 2.2, 2.3, etc). Season three was released as single volumes as well as sets, so you've got to be careful what you purchase there. Season three will be in five sets like season two. So you'll want to purchase 3.1 (aka S3 volumes 1&2), 3.2 (aka S3 volumes 3&4).
ADV hasn't released any other season as a box set besides S1:(

Well I am in Europe, Holland to be exact, and afaik the releases of the DVDs various between the US & Europe. Last Saturday Amazon.co.uk sent me volume 4 of S4. Until now each season has 5 volumes and I presume S4 will also have 5 volumes. I have preordered volume 5 of S4 which is set to arrive end August/begin September. Then I will have all eps of FS on DVD :D
P.s. each volume/set has 2 DVDs with minimal 2 eps per DVD, sometimes 3 and usually some extra features on one of them (2nd one usually).
EDIT: aha I see RescueFarscape just posted prior to me :D

I am so frelling confused...
Since ADV has thoroughly screwed up the DVD I cannot figure how to buy seasons 2 and 3. I have given up waiting for the Season boxed sets. I go to buy the DVDs, and I see different priced DVD sets with similar numbering schemes and I cannot seem to find anywhere that tells me the whole season numbering schemes. Do I get the Vol. # or Vol. #.#? Why did they have to screw this up so badly?

It might be easier if you go by ep titles.
Season two is easy, they were released on just five different DVD sets, so you'll want to get Season Two, Volume One, Season Two, Volume Two, etc. That'll get you all the eps.
Season three:
DVD SETS (4 or five eps)
3.1-Season of Death
Suns and Lovers
'Self-Inflicted Wounds, parts 1 & 2
3.2-'...Different Destinations'
'Eat Me'
'Thanks For Sharing'
'Green-Eyed Monster'
'Losing Time'
3.3(which is as far as they've released)-'Relativity'
'Incubator'
'Meltdown'
'Scratch & Sniff'
The SETS go for around $30.
Hope this helps! If not, well...:faint:

I know that over at Amazon.co.uk there are also Deluxe Edition set listed of Season 3; they're are "labelled" Farscape Season 3.1 - 3.2 - 3.3 - 3.4 - 3.5 which should have the same DVDs as the normal box sets but the packages contain extra stuff (prints, photo albums aso).
If you goto Amazon.co.uk (http://www.amazon.co.uk) and type in the search field "Farscape" and select DVD, after the results shows, sort the results Alphabetical A to Z then it seems obvious to me which DVD box sets to get (only S4 is for some reason not listed fully alphabetical, but they are there). As I already said there are also Deluxe Edition DVD box sets of S3 and next to the clear Volume listing there are also a few non Volume showing titled "Farscape 1 (Two Discs) [1999]) aso.
I ordered at Amazon.co.uk from exactly that list, as described above:
Farscape - Season 1 - the S1 box set
Farscape - Season 2 - Vol. 1 thru 5
Farscape - Season 3 - Vol. 1 thru 5
Farscape - Season 4 - Vol. 1 thru 5
I didn't bought the Deluxe Edition of S3. As listed above is exactly what I bought and I am only waiting for Volume 5 of S4.
P.s. I just did the same sort of listing/search over at Amazon.com and the results showing are not the same as over at Amazon.co.uk. At Amazon.co.uk it is very easy to see which DVDs one can buy to have a complete FS collection; I cannot say the same thing when looking at the search results over at Amazon.com (probably also due to the fact that the releases in the US are not similar to those in Europe).
mind you that at Amazon.co.uk the DVDs are Region 2 encoded (Europe, Middle East & Japan only)!!!
maybe I should not have posted this since you are in the USA, Friendly but the way the DVDs are listed at Amazon.co.uk was very helpful to me to see which DVD box sets I wanted/needed to buy, then again I also bought them from Amazon.co.uk
Does anyone know when ADV is planning on releasing the Season 2 Box Set?

I have season one. I purchased it (and all my DVD's and books) from Half.com. They usually have eveything that's been released and, although it's not always "half", it's pretty good pricing. I am THRILLED to hear that I can soon have season 2!!
Need Season 3,4,5........
I watched the shows on that channel and I watch the DVD's with commentary.
I will say that I've taken a break from watching this summer (there are 25 eps on my TiVo!) because it was just breaking my heart too much to know that I can't have my totally adorable and faithful gang back soon for new adventures.

Those video profiles are great- especially Dargo and Aeryn. To see them out of character (especially Anthony Simcoe in costume talking in his normal voice, and watching Claudia Black smile:D (of course I'd watch her read the phone book...) ) makes me appreciate what they do even more...

Hi!!! :hi:
I bought the Season 1 Box set via Amazon.com when it was released and I am really satisfied. Now, I have lent it to a scaper friend of mine.
I have ordered to Play.com ( it's cheaper) the Season 2 Box set and I'm planning to buy Season 3 Box set when released. And the fourth season of course.
It sounds strange coming from a person who is not english (i'm from Barcelona, Spain) but I understand English if you don't speak fast, obviously :thud:. I only want to have it because of the pleasure of having it, for listening the original voices of the actors and for the extras.
Thanks God I have seen the whole series three times in the local tv and I remember what they say because the technical vocabulary sounds chinese to me!! (sorry if someone is learning chinese).
Well, I wanted to say this.
Thanks for reading
:hugz: to the crew

I have both Season 1 and 2 in box sets. (plus lots of toys of characters) Can't wait for Seasons 3 and 4.
Very, Very excited about the mini-series. I actually cried at the end of season 4. Very"chick flick" of me, but to end like that sucked. I am so glad the fans rallied and got this going. Hopefully some network exec will have an epiphany and snatch Farscape up.

Bought the 1st season boxset (R2) when I saw Amazon was selling it at £40 sterling for a few days back in Jan / Feb (before I found this site or I would have been telling EVERYONE).
I lent it out and have hooked 2 friends already. Problem is if they could afford Cable/satelite TV they would watch the re-runs on Sci-fi UK but as they can't they are not likely to have £100 for each boxset (or £125 for the individual DVDs).
But I have found a site (through www.dvdpricesearch.co.uk) that is selling them for around £55 (www.choicesdirect.com). So we can each get boxsets and start lending out the first series to get more people hooked.
Also, can anyone tell me why I can walk into HMV or Virgin and pick up a season each of Alias, West Wing and 24 for the same price as one season of Farscape? And not just because it's superior? :)

I've bought also Season 2 Boxset (Region 2). And for everybody with multi-regional DVD players I strongly recommend Region 2 Farscape Boxsets. Season 2 Boxset includes 5 commentaries, 2 from American release and 3 from Australian release. It's really worth it's price! Season 3 Boxset will be relased later this year, Amazon UK says September 13th.
