Nice article here, and a reference to this site, as well:

Of course, she's preaching to the choir, but it's still nice to hear.

While I agree with her points about the Nielson system, I think the main thrust of her article is that cult shows can re-coop what they might loose in ad revenue from poor nielson ratings buy using the collectable angle to milk money directly from the fans. It's an intersting thesis, but one which certainly falls down in regards to Farscape. SciFi does not have marketing rights to Farscape, as far as I know. Henson is the one that makes money from the merchandizing. That is how they can pay for half the show.
FYI everyone, Farscape is only mentioned once in this article, as it is mainly about Firefly with referances to Buffy, Angel, Alias, and X-files.
If you want to check out the latest efforts by fans to be heard, check out http://www.watchfarscape.com/ and http://www.fireflysupport.com/ and join the fandom revolution.
Actually it works for Farscape if another net can swing a deal for it.
What it means is that these are valuable properties but not in the way that is traditionallly quantified by the neilsens. Which we know. We know that Farscape is a valuable property - we know that Farscape fans are a very loyal bunch. This is a newer thing appearing in television advertising - not every ad group these days uses the neilsens to determine who they advertise with. There's a theory out there about the relative value of certain viewers vs. the larger numbers of less valuable viewers. So you might get 2 million XValue viewers but they're rated more valuable to have then 4 million ZValue viewers. That's part of what we're trying to sell in this campaign ... that the viewers Farscape has are very valuable consumers to advertise to.

the article wasn't about Farscape. it was about the the inaccuracy of Nielsens and how networks just have to look to the Net to find a more accurate picture of how their shows are doing...which is EXACTLY the point we're trying to make.
it was sweet that the author recognized our efforts...which was our point of outreaching to other fandoms...it's getting us press, and potentially, it's getting us viewers

It's an interesting read. I like the way she pointed out the heavy emphasis given on the nielsen ratings and how fans are pulling together to make their chioce in viewing be heard. But, overall I felt like the main theme of the article is to make Fox wake up and see the light. :( But, that is just my opinion.
Farscape got mentioned and we got a link so that's two points more than before.

Well, yeah, Tokeya. The site is a Mutant Enemy site. But it's also useful to see that other people outside our fandom are noticing our efforts.
