Do you mean send it to them so that they may put it on their websites? If so, pm your email to me and I will send it to you.

Wow!!! It's beautiful, endsister!!!

(Just one little thing -- it doesn't seem to work quite right with Netscape... It looks absolutely *amazing* with IE, though, so I am not sure it's worth playing around with it anymore. The vast majority of the people online use IE anyway, I think (I don't anymore, but most of the polls I've seen seem to imply that most people use IE...)

We have recently bought a banner ad at Television Without Pity (http://www.televisionwithoutpity.com), specifically to advertize the Chain Reaction. Would you mind if we used your banner? It would be perfect to use in this situation, I think :)

By the way, you might want to take a look at this site: http://www.shriftweb.org/bannerads/ . Shrift created it to try and coordinate the banner advertizing movement :) (See this thread: http://www.watchfarscape.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=5039 for more information) It would be great if you could send your banner to Shrift, so that she can put it up on her "Available Banners" page, so that the people buying ads would be able to pick it up there and use it :)

(Unless you've already done that, or don't want your banner to be used like that, in which case I'll just shut up, now ;) )

That's weird. Ok, so I tested it out in the usual series of browsers I normally would for anything and it worked fine. So, I took a guess and think I discovered the problem. The banner is in Flash 5 format. If the user has the Flash 4 plugin it will still play but doesn't support some of the actionscripting so some elements of it don't play correctly. Luckily the % of computers with the Flash 4 plugin is extremely low. < /technobabble>

If you installed a newer version of the Flash player for Netscape everything should be ok. I had actually designed it in Flash 5 format and NOT Flash 6 to specifically avoid this complication. Poo.

And yes I sent a copy off to Shrift last night. If you or anyone else would like a copy just pm me with your email address and I will send both versions off to you. And yes anyone and everyone is welcome to use it as they please.

:grr: <--- and what the hell is this?! Mr. T?!

Thanks, endsinister! That's probably what the problem is :) I'm sorry I didn't figure it out and got you worried...

And I guess it makes sense that Shrift hasn't put the banner up yet, seeing as she's in Burbank right now :) I just wanted to let you know about her site, in case you hadn't seen it yet. I probably should have just kept my mouth shut. Sorry if I came across as being annoying...

Thanks for letting us use the banners!

No worries. Sorry if I came across as being perturbed.

What I mean endsinister,

I've been looking for: A way to send a kickass ad for FarScape in my email.

I'm sure that *someone* in the campaign must have the capability to do it.

Imagine sending a flash movie advertising the December Chain Reaction at the bottom of every email :D Imagine sending a flash movie advertising the new Episodes in January :bounce:

It would be glorious!

This is so gorgeous!! What a beautiful banner, I wish I had
a web site for it.

This would be great as a screensaver for folks who have cubicles. People stopping to talk have to see it. The still pic FS wallpaper I have gets some comments, think what this could do!

It would be great to send it to people I email.
Great work!

Sparky :hi:

Do you know how to send it in email? And can you make it clickable? That is click on it and it sends you here? ... or there... :D

Sparky: Thank you! I have sent you a copy. And a screensaver isn't a bad idea. I'll look into that.

nhfearme: right now the flash banners link to "http://www.watchfarscape.com/"

If you guys are wanting to actually have the banner visible in an email (like the header of footer of a message), I think it can be done but I don't think it's very easy. But then again, maybe it's really easy. I just don't know how. : )

Maybe someone else out here does?

endsinister,

The idear is to send out an inviting anime or movie gif to friends & acquaintances in our emails to *entice* them to a FarScape site & encourage them to *watch FarScape* ... In other words I want to run a *free* Watch FarScape ad as a tag on all of our emails.

A friend told me that it is the same as when you post one in html on your site... trouble is I've been messing with ezcodes for so long that html is just a memory :grr:

I know that unix mailers like pine and mh, xmh stip all animation and formatting, sending everything in plain text.
In MS Outlook you can use visual basic to put hyperlinks that send people to web pages, You can attach animated gifs in MS Outlook. To get to the VB mail creation, I am not sure, I only accidently stumbled into it one day and played with it.
In Outlook XP you can make hyperlinks in the body by highlighting the text and going to the Create a hyperlink (a globe with a chain link -- tiny) icon above the body.

You can also send a web page as a new message and it becomes the stationary for message. (use message>new using> web page
I sent myself one of areyou.com, but it won't animate the video, that is another link to make inside the message.
I tried a print screen of my test, but I don't know how to attach
that here.

It's a great idea, tho, I will try to learn more from my expert pool of Outlook administrators.

This is how you do it!

Prepare your webpage or in endsinister's case a kickass banner with an imbedded link.

Click 'File' => pull down menu to 'send' => 'Shortcut to Desktop'

Now simply attach it to any email and it will appear at the bottom

:::::::nh nearly falls unconscious from total fear cause she forgot how to do it for 10 whole minutes!!!!:::::::

<gasp!><pant!>

... k

I'm really taking a break from this now :thud:

nhfearme

I'm sorry endsinister :(

For whatever reason my email service says your banner's *name* is invalid. It refuses to upload to my harddrive or to send a page of itself as an email!

...but etana's loads ok. Her's ends in .gif. Does it make any difference... ? (just thinking out loud here.) I would have to go back and see the diff formats of the pages I tested this on. :jedi:

I checked. They all end in htm... anybody out there understand why ensinister's didn't load?

The page link is

Sleepy... go night night

I can't use this web page http://www.endsinister.com/farscape/ as stationary (Message>new>send as web page.
My error msg says I don't allow ActiveX, which is a system protocol, to allow certain functions access to your computer.

I also believe you have to have Flash ver. 5.0 to view something made in Flash ver. 5.0. Maybe even to manipulate it in mail?
This banner seems to have
Shockwave too, and I think that is an add-on to Flash you might have to have. Wouldn't stake my life on it, tho.

.gifs are different than this image, which ends w/ .swf file type.

More technical people might know.
I will be checking next week to see if anyone I know can answer
our question.
