Farscape Business Cards

Well, not really...but business cards are easy to carry and something I give out quite a lot for business.

So I tried my hand at creating Farscape promotion cards - get'm, collect'm, give'm out! That's kinda-sort of my little idea.

So far I've been handing them out and leaving them just about everywhere I go.

My medium res version is the same size as a business card - 3.5" wide by 2" high. I created them (yep, I have more in the works) as 150 dpi so they print well on ink jet printers. Since they are not for sale and not going to be auctioned off fan art is ok. Pritchard was used for the word Farscape - I prefer to stay way from making it look exactly like the FS logo.

I have a 150 dpi version which I can set up as a PDF - one page with 10 cards per page.

Could You make up ones with out the SCI-Fi channel stuff on it? I am a Canadian scaper and Farscape is aired on the SPACE channel here (we don't get the sci-fi channel):rolleyes: I'll make a really sad attempt at making some. but I can't make any gauruntees;)

Ok I finally came up with text for the card that I like - so I changed the Noranti card and I worked up this one with Aeryn. I have another one with D'Argo and Rygel in the works.

I've printed out a number of these cards as well as some bookmarks and I've been taking them to the malls around my area - there are 17 Nielson boxes in my town - and I figure those families have got to be at the mall at one time or another especially since there's not much else to do around here.

Anyway - I leave 3 or 4 cards all around the mall where large groups of people are milling around, or at the information kiosk or the food court, and let me tell you, I'll go back to where I left them and they're gone - in a matter of 5 minutes someone has picked the cards up!

I even dared to go today - put down about 30 cards and they were all "taken"! :P

Very nice shippy card! I put your cards and mine on some bumper sticker material that comes off fairly easy (I tested it on lots of places so no dmaage issues), so now people all over town using gas pumps, ATMs, check out counters in stores, and bathroom stalls are reading about Farscape. Now, on to Dallas :D

mycattoldme: Just wanted to let you know that I made tons of the pdf pages of the cards on card stock paper, cut them up and gave away oodles at the Portland con this weekend. I was already strapped for time getting things ready for the convention and it was so easy to send the pdf pages off to Kinkos and then have them print them up on card stock. I had to sign a release though stating that I wasn't selling anything and that they were for info only but that was no big deal. Took just a couple minutes to explain and sign the form. I just really appreciate the time and effort you took and then sharing them with us and wanted you to know. Thank you so much!:aok:

MyCatToldMe - you had made a bumper sticker for the Miniseries before we knew the date. I had asked you a while back in another thread I can't find if you could update it and put in the date of the Mini. You said you would. Then you have some computer troubles so I just figured you'd get to it later, but I guess you forgot or I just haven't found it. Anyway, I included a picture of the original one in this post if you can update it. Let me know, this is still one of my most favorite bumper stickers. :yes:

Now, if you could just guide me through how the frell do I get the business cards to print out on my Avery Equal 5371 Glossy precut business cards. I have Windows Xp and my printer is a HP printer/scanner/coper. I can get them to print out just not to line up in the precut sizes which are 2"x3 1/2". They keep printing out at 1 7/8"x3 1/4". I have downloaded your downloads for the 2x31/2 but when it comes to the actually printing something goes haywire. I have tried everything under the sun. I was able to print out a couple of 8 1/2 x 11 of my favorites and they were nice and clear and crisp, so I'm putting them in my rear window of my car. But I think that's a tad too big to hand out.......lol. Plus I bought an entire package of business card paper and would like to put it to Farscape use. If you could help me I'd appreciate it. You can email me direct at katrina@comcast.net. I can't tell you how much I love your work, it is just awesome. Will you be making anything new with the dates for the Mini on them.
BTW, I made all those bumper stickers and I covered them with clear vinyl and applied them to magnetic vinyl. I will take a picture of my car and send it to you. I have already gotten a lot of compliments for my bumper stickers. So, thank you so much for making them.

Business cards usually misalign for me, too. I have Windows XP and an HP all in one, too. :D (Personally, I usually use Avery #8871 and just trim the top of the sheet to get them to align properly.) But they don't print at a different size. Did you use Word Perfect to create the cards? I noticed that the printing problems I have usually start there. If I choose a different program or a different type of paper, the problem disappears... so I blame Corel. ;)

Do you have Print Shop? Using it might help.

Well I don't work with Windows programs so I can't be of much help. I don't know why they would be printing smaller...sorry :(

One thing I do know is make sure when you print your document look at your Print Properties (I think its called) and make sure that "fit to page" is NOT selected and if you can select "centered" if that's an option that way the cards "should" print at the right size.

What I will do is work on some new cards for the mini, set them up so they can be printed on the Avery or just about any Busness Card specialty paper and post a PDF.

I don't know what the frell my printing dilema is, I removed the top of the first sheet and all the cards except the top row printed fine and fit. Then I left the top on to see if I would get the complete top row even if they were on the border and then not only that did not work, but the rest of the cards were then misaligned. :freak2:

During the week of the mini combine these cards with flyers and ads in your local newspaper TV section.

Variety is the spice of life - and that's true in advertising and promotion - exposing people to a new message in different ways actually helps validate the information, and the more comfortable people feel with a message the more likely they will respond. :D
