Nearly half (45%) of TV viewers have no idea what a "Nielsen family" is, and 10% believe the phrase was a '50s sitcom, according to a poll by cable arts channel Trio. November marks television's all-important "sweeps month," in which shows compete for viewers and live or die by Nielsen ratings. The ratings are determined by tabulations of the viewing habits of selected tube watchers.
