(I wasn't sure if I should put this in the Banner advertizing thread, but since it's not *really* banner advertizing, I figured I'd give it a separate thread and see what people say.)

I just looked in on the web comic User Friendly (http://www.userfriendly.org/), and I found out that they have this thing called "Link of the Day". According to the site, "[Link of the day] featured sites generate a lot more traffic than they would on a normal day. If you're a site proprietor, please be sure your site can handle the throughput required before sending in your link. To paraphrase Illiad: "Sending UFies to a site is like pointing Godzilla at Tokyo." For this reason we will no longer select sites that are geocities pages, they simply cannot handle the load." Sounds like something we might want a Farscape site on, don't you think? And it's completely free! I searched their Link of the Day archive, and there is nothing Farscape-related in there...

The problem is with coming up with a Farscape site that would catch the webmasters' eye... What do you think about the Farsons (http://www.coolercreations.com/farscape/farsons.html) site? Or that Farscape/South Park merge (I can't find the site right now, but I thought it was pretty funny...). Or the Dirty Mind Brigade (http://www.dmbrigade.com/dmb_stats.htm) site that counts how many times Farscape swear words have been used in Farscape? Any other ideas for what site we can send in?

Why not www.farscapefantasy.com?

It's an awesome sight. It's big. It can handle a load. And it has EVERYTHING. Even a Save Farscape section.

My two bits worth:cool:

Yes, I love that site, Jeff, but I sort of got the impression that User Friendly is looking for something more funny and unconventional (like, say, The Naked Quidditch Match (http://www.gryffindortower.net/Library/Anya/naked1.htm) or the List of Banished Words (http://lssu.edu/banished/current/default.html) to name just two of their recent picks). www.farscapefantasy.com is a great site, but it's one of the usual fan sites -- I was looking for something a bit more unusual that might catch the attention of the creator of the strip. That's why my suggestions were more on the humor side of things...

Edited to add: It doesn't even have to mention the fan campaign -- I just want to get Farscape's name out there, so that readers of the strip might get interested about it (yes, I know that User Friendly has mentioned Farscape before, but I still think that the more exposure we get the better.)

Hmmm.......what about that site that ran the cartoons mentioning Farscape? I can't remember what it was, but it caused quite a stir a while back.

Ooohh, sounds really interesting, Jeff. I've never heard of this site! That does sound promising. :aok:

I'll try to find where it is.

Check the through the past News Updates on this site. I know it was posted there when it came out. I'm thinking it came out either in the 2nd half of Oct or 1st half of Nov.

hope that helps.

I like that link, blue. I forgot about that site. I think maybe I'll send that one in. Thanks! :aok:

And jeffrabb, I thought you meant that someone wrote a comic strip based on Farscape (a fan-made comic strip, not one of those commercial Farscape comic books that are out now). Those comics are the other web comics that mentioned Farscape in their strips. While that is really cool, I doubt that the User Friendly guy would be all that surprised about them -- certainly not enough to make them the link of the day. (In fact, I think User Friendly mentioned Farscape in one of his strips, as well :) ).

I don't remember Farscape being mentioned in a UF strip (I read the comic every morning, religiously :) ) but I do think there was a frontpage news item about it for a while.

wmdopple, here is the link to the comic strip where User Friendly mentions Farscape (it's from September, soon after the news was announced):

You might want to read the story from the first strip, though, which is here (I think -- that story is fairly long ;) ):
