A reporter at salon.com wrote an article about the Save Farscape campaign and TVC. It will appear tomorrow in the A&E section of the Salon e-zine!

Adrienne Crew wrote it and said she hopes it helps.
;)

Please drop in and read it to show them the interest and size of the community !

Bump!

This is really, really excellent major coverage. Here's hoping it's also positive coverage. :)

Saska - re-energized by this bit of news.

I would link directly to the story, but I really think you should see our beautiful prominent placement as the headline story for this issue...

I had to watch an ad to get a free membership to Salon. But it was well worth it! Thanks so much to Adrienne Crow for the great press!

unfortunately we cant send a letter direct to her. Even though her name at the end starts an email, it bounces back. Still it's a great piece, and well balanced. Thanks for posting it up! I snuched the link to the Kansas board too, so thanks again.

Hi all:

What a fabulous page and a coup for us! Could someone paste the text of the article here for all to read and also for use in our efforts to contact other media outlets. Thanks!
 :rollin:

Let's make Salon glad they ran the article.

I know it is a pain to watch the ad to get the full article if you are not a subscriber, but you don't have to tell them anything about yourself. And I would take a certain amount of satisfaction in knowing they got huge traffic/ad revenue for the story.

I am not necessarily objecting to posting the text here (I can't do it because I am on my mobile phone typing this - no cut and paste), but I hope everybody goes to Salon's site. Might improve our chances of a follow-up.

Anyone have a mirror for this?

It's asking me for a credit card for 7-day trial to read anything past the 1st three paragraphs....

Copy of the article would be cool too ;)

saska

Mirth, I was able to get a free pass by watching an ad... It was the option furthest to the right to continue...

Hope they didn't remove that option. If they did I will be glad to paste it when I get to work.

Mirth, look again- you can get a one day pass by sitting through an ad for a few seconds.

The text is pretty large.

edited by board admin....

Salon.com has specifically asked us not to cut and paste the article. they need the hits. you can get a day pass by watching the 15 second text only commercial for one of their sponsors. since they've written such a well-balanced article, it's the least we can do.

Susana,

sorry about having to edit your post like this. i hope you understand.

I clicked to sign up for the free trial, but I had to enter a credit card to get it. It says I have 7 days to cancel, or I will be charged for the subscription.

D'oh!
Mine eye's picked up the yellow background and 'zoned-out' the white-space Free-day pass....s'what I get for not finishing my coffee. Sorry All (and Thanks :) ) To much practice ignoring
web-vertisments i guess

Just got through reading the article. Damn, that is good! And she had to have done a LOT of research for it. Let's hope it makes an impression with someone.

Even If you read it here go to Salon too. The FREE/FREE way is the furthest option on the right you just have ot watch a not to good flash commercial, if it asks for a credit card, that's the wrong one. Read it there to see the pictures and the impact of the overall article. I think Salon's demos are very similar to ours, this might be very helpful to us...

Let's make sure to all send loads of thanks and praise to Salon for writing a brand new headline (A&E) article about a save-a-show campaign that was started over 6 MONTHS AGO! When have you seen that before?

And let's get some people to actually subscribe to salon and make sure that they identify the reasons: 1) Farscape and 2) Coverage of the TV industry from the viewers' point of view!

Thanks everybody!

DID ANYBODY SEE THE RELATED ARTICLE ABOUT STARGATE??????

Fan rebellion threatens "Stargate"
With its most beloved character dead, its adult female fans up in arms and its ratings in ruins, the once-hot sci-fi series "Stargate SG-1" may
be doomed.

Just to reiterate: Even if you read the article here, please click on the link to the Salon site anyway. We want this article to get as many hits as possible, to show that this really was a worthy piece!

Just hit that free 1-day pass option to get into the site, no need to enter a credit card, watch a short commercial (or close your eyes if you wish, whatever), and voila, you are there!

Bravo for well-researched writing that does not include stereotypes of science fiction fans! Obviously the author does not write for Time. :ewink:

StarsGoBlue

Oooops, sorry Prairie Scaper! Yes please do go visit the site, the one-day free pass option is easy and takes like 3 seconds and you don't have to give them any info at all.

could you guys go back in and edit out your cut/pastes of their articles. they specifically asked us not to do this as they need the hits. folks can get a day pass by watching a 15 commercial.

Susana, i already edited your post, not realizing their were two more cut/pastes. i'm sorry about that.

I read the article on one of my mailing lists, but I still hit the site, just cuz. :)

thanks JA...

Salon.com is really struggling financially, so every tiny bit/hit helps. and that's something we Farscape fans can definately relate to.

Salon.com seems to have taken down the link for the "watch a commercial for a free pass." There is no longer any link to click on in that box. I tried it in Explorer and Netscape.

If they're going to be THAT way about it, I think the cut and paste should stay up. Just my opinion. I don't want to give them my credit card information when I have no intention of subscribing.

waltersgirl
03-13-2003, 04:23 PM
no they haven't, as i was just there. if you already have a day pass though, the link will no longer be visible. once i left and went back to double check something, it had a "welcome day pass" kinda greeting at the top.

Please help salon.com out by not reprinting the article (TVC has removed its post of Page 3). Just make sure everyone sees the link!

I read it myself and then quickly sent off a letter to the editor thanking the writer for her work and the ezine (is that right?) for putting it out for all to see...Also said that Vivienne deserved a raise! Think she'll appreciate that?!?!?!?!?

The SG-1 article was interesting too. Just more proof that SciFi is clueless about science fiction, women and television programming.

Excellent article! :joy:

I am sending the link to everyone I know. I also submitted the link to Slashdot.org as an article suggestion, along with the Press Kit and the TV Commerical links. :D If selected, I hope all of the servers can handle the /. load.

This campaign frelling rocks!

Adrienne's story was reported by someone on slashdot
Someone on slashdot made a comment about it and linked the salon.com save FS story (salon's story is A GREAT READ).
Now there are lots of commments discussing all sorts of FS things.

Yikes! I'm glad to see it made it. Thanks go out to JoeCotellese. As expected, many people are bashing the campaign with "get a life, its just a TV show". It looks like I need to illuminate the show's strong points.

You know what I really enjoyed seeing in this /. thread?

The people who felt like flaming months ago, the first time we got /.ed, have pretty much left us alone this time.

More people are copping to watching the show, even if not all of them believe it ought to be continued.

Honestly, this is some of the friendlier Farscape /. commentary I've seen.

Done. I tried to keep it under two pages. :) If you read my NPR letter you know I'm long-winded when it comes to Farscape.

: pauses to draw a deep breath :

Whew. I just hate that the thread has been pushed to the recent articles slot now that Monday has arrived. The article should still get some press on Monday with people returning to work.
