OK, one more time a summary of what the plan looks like. Maybe one of the moderators can tag this to the top and we can keep the discussions in the "Women SUPPORT Farscape" thread :) I will do my dradest to keep up with that monster! And boy she's movin' fast! But I'll try to keep updating this post should there be any more changes/additional tips or tricks or information :)

NEW!!!
OK, here now a download-link for everybody who want to have a high-resolution version of ratscapes fantastic Aeryn-go-Bra'gh poster:
http://home.attbi.com/~areinhardt/Pics/a_go_bHR.jpg

Have at it! I'll be making myself a T-shirt with the Aeryn-go-Bra'gh in pink on a black T :D

One thing up front (because it came up a few times now):
Male Participation
Please! No jock-straps (is that spelled right? And what the heck are those anyway?!?! LOL!)! If you want to participate in this, please ask you significant other if you can send on in her name. This is really about getting the point across that the women they have stated they want to watch have already been watching. I ahve absolutely no doubt that we will come up with an equally funny way of demonstrating that the male viewership has very little resemblance to the stereo-typical 30 year old virgin! That shall be our next Mission Impossible, we gotta keep them entertained once Farscape goes into reruns, right? :D :D :D

OK, the project as it stands now:

What?
We're all going to send our bras to
Ms. Bonnie Hammer
President
The SciFi Channel
1230 Avenue of the Americas, F115
New York, NY 10020-1513

Timing
Please try to send your bra such that it'll get to the SFC HQ on Friday the 21st of March, the day 4.22 airs. That's the day we will give in the press-release and hopefully some press will show up there and have a look and take some footage :D I think getting all of them there at the same day is going to make the biggest impression by creating the most (LOL!) volume :D
Check here to see how long it'll take from your corner of the universe :)
http://postcalc.usps.gov/

The Motto
The original idea was to have "We send our SUPPORT for Farscape" on one and "Farscape or bust!" on the other...uhm, "orb". HOWEVER, please if you have not yet written onto your bra, please stick a note with the mottos (or whatever else you want to say) on the bra instead of writing on it. Instead please ask Ms Hammer to donate the bra to one of the women shelters in NYC! Let's make some people happy while we're making a point and are having some fun :D

here are a few suggestions you can make:
Franklin, 1122 Franklin Avenue, Bronx
Jamaica Armory, 93-03 168th St., Jamaica, Queens
Brooklyn Wommen's Shelter, 116 Williams Ave., Brooklyn

Considerations
As mentioned, please ask for the bra to be donated to a shelter. And please only send bras that are clean and (I was about to say proper, but scratch that! :D) not completely about to go (at least if you ask for them to be donated).
I think we resolved that if they are properly mailed, the metal underwires shouldn't pose a problem after all and can stay in (they wouldn't be able to donate them with the wires removed).
If at all possible, use Breast Cancer Awareness stamps. They are a bit more expensive, but the extra is donated for Cancer Research (IIRC).

Mailing
There are semi-transparent mailing-envelopes available (stupid Staples was closed by the time I got out of work, so I couldn't check there!).
http://www.castampin.com/ecommerce/category-browse-subcategory.tcl?usca_p=t&category_id=61&subcategory_id=143&subsubcategory_id=0&how_many=10&start=0
Or you can use a priority mail envelope like this one: http://shop.usps.com/cgi-bin/vsbv/postal_store_non_ssl/display_products/productDetail.jsp?OID=1003565&BV_UseBVCookie=yes&appName=SSOL
However, in that case you will have to send Priority and you will have to ask specifically for them to use Breast Cancer Awareness stamps instead of the normal print-out postage.
But you can as well make your own "window" envelope :D KozmikBloo explains quite nicely how to do it somewhere down the middle of this page:
http://www.watchfarscape.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8003&perpage=15&pagenumber=14
and two pages on you can see what the result looks like!
If you want to use a taped-shut plastic bag instead that should be fine, too. No staples, though! And if you are using an all plastic container, you should also include a sheet of cardboard (like the ones you get when you buy tighs) and a white sheet of paper on one side.
The cardboard will give enough support (<snicker> that word again) to make sure the thing can make it through the postal system without getting all messed up or worse messing up the postal machines! (Bad enough that it'll mess up all the postal workers! :D)
The white sheet of paper should be on the side on which the mailing labe goes. Obviously the machines need enough white around the address to be able to read it correctly and we don't want any valuable support to get lost in the mail!
I would also include the Farscape viewing information on the outside of the envelope, because I'm sure a lot of people will want to find out where all those bras come from :rollin:
Best would be "SciFi Channel Fri 21st 8pm and from 24th at 12am" because that's when the reruns are going to be.

Oh, in case you wonder why we want see through envelopes: It's that terror-thread thingy. If you can see what it is, you can't just throw it away claiming it might have been dangerous... and we do want them to get *all* our bras, right? <snerk> The bra as a means of terror... you gotta hand it to us Scapers, we have balls! Uhm, orbs! Well, whatever!

b]Documentation![/b]
If you can try to send using a delivery receipts and keep the paper-work! or at least keep the receipt from the mailing. It looks like we might collect all the receipts at some point, not only to get a count, but also to be able to show to the press (most likely in scanned form on the press-kit site). Also, if you get a chance, please take a picture of your package for the same reason :)

To be Included!
The bra of course :D Please also include your demographics! I quote Chaym, who has participate in plenty of market research thingies and says this is what they usually like to know:
Name,
Sex,
Age,
Ethnicity,
Occupation (it's o.k. to put "unemployed" and give your usual job such as desktop publisher) ,
Income,
Marital status,
# of Children,
Age of Children,
Place of Residence (city, state, and country are fine),
Own/Rent/Lease (example: "own single family home"), and
Education ("some college")
Yes, put gender AGAIN, just in case... LOL!
The Times article that sparked all of this! Personally I just stopped by and bought the latest Times Magazine (article is on page 71). I'll highlite the passage this is about. But Tokeya kindly also posted a copy here:
http://www.watchfarscape.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8003&perpage=15&pagenumber=5
so if you want you can just print it out :)
On top of that just include a little letter telling Ms Hammer about yourself and how you really feel you are their new target group and quite irritated at the fact that the only programming that did interest you on their channel was canceled... if you want, that is. Tell her whatever you want, just do it politely as usual (being a bit cheeky is OK, though, I think :)) Or just let the bra speak for itself. Lots of people have posted in the "Women SUPPORT Farscape" thread what they will include in case you want some inspiration :)

Heh, it's a long read, but that thread is really funny :D

Bosom Buddies!
Don't live in the US? Don't happen to have a spare bra and the next pay-check won't clear in time? Check out the "Bosom Buddies" thread! That's the place to find Scapers who have more than one bra to spare and are willing to send one out for you with your demographics :) Check here: http://www.watchfarscape.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=8041
Scapers are simply awesome!

OK, I'll be updating this as new developments occur or as I remember things I forgot... I'm totally braindead right now but it'll all come back... I hope... :D

And alst but not least a HUGE Thank You to everybody! Scapers are frelling fantastic! This has been such a great collaborative effort it's simply amazing! Lots and lots of people have contributated with ideas and improvements and this appears to be still growing :) If you have any ideas, any suggestions, head-ups whatever, please post in the other thread :) As I said, I'll keep this one updated so people can find all the info in one place without having to read through dozens of pages (although they are a huge lift-up!)
Heh. I don't think I have ever worked with such a determined and go-get-them-spirited group in my entire life... and that's why

I have been trying to confirm with the post office that the suggested clear envelopes would actually be accepted--and I have not gotten a "yes"--I HAVE been told that the post office would have to actually SEE the package to say yes or no-that it would have to be taped with packaging or strapping tape, not masking tape or any other kind of tape, and that it would have to have the return address as well as the mailing address and postage all on one side--that the packaging would have to be stiff enough and strong enough to not get damaged in the machines, etc. but would also have to be flexible enough--or be in a rigid box--in which case it would be a box.

So would someone (or several people) who has already made one of these up PLEASE take it to their post office and get an answer before everyone takes the packaging advice posted????????

On the "Women support Farscape" thread the timing hasn't been clear. Are we shooting for the bras to arrive on the 21st, or are we mailing them out on the 17th (Aeryn Go bra-less)? At one point mailing them out on the 17th seemed to be favored, but now it looks like arrival on the 21st is the choice.

Tiriel
03-13-2003, 02:58 PM
OK, I highlighted the "getting there ON the 21st" part. I think a strong showing on one day is going to be better than bras coming in all week... LOL! Which would be like a bra-epidemic... first a few than the bulk and then a few trailers... :D

Thanks for pointing out that it wasn't quite clear, mgraylorn!

Love and Peace and Good Timing :)

If you want to make sure your pakage goes directly to Bonnie Hammer use Signature Conformation from the USPS. She'll be so busy signing for bra's she won't have time to make bad television.

do check out though, the thread "For the Boys", as DentArthurDent just posted a great complimentary idea for this.

Actually, signature confirmation just makes somebody sign for it.

Tom Vitale did *not* sign for the letter I sent to him with sig confirmation on it.

But most likely it will be Bonnie's assistant, or a mail room clerk, who gets slammed.

There *IS* an option that requires the signature of the actual person the item is addressed to...I just can't think of it off the top of my head.

Think I'll go check out the USPS website.....

Suggestion for press release:

Make sure you give good attention to NY's tabloid newspapers, the Daily News and the Post. They have a bit more of a sense of humor than the Times or Newsday.

Also, be aware that NY has a dedicated all-news 24-hour cable channel called "NY1" who have a lot of time to fill.

Also, following my marketing training where I've always been taught to consider all "Strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats" (a SWOT analysis), I'd put into the "threat" column, the possibility of war breaking out.

I've recently done an analysis for clients of what happens to the media, TV viewing, and consumer perceptions during the early days of a war or a national emergency. Things can turn on a dime.

Of course, no one knows yet when anything will happen. I'm not aware of what the current "CW" is saying.

It may be nothing to worry about, but "be prepared" isn't a bad motto to live by.

One thought, though -- if you require signature confirmation, they can always refuse delivery. :P

That's exactly why I checked off the "Waiver of Signature" option. Basically, it says that anyone can sign for it. I figure that eventually Bonnie would get tired of having to sign for all these packages and just start refusing them. So at least my 9 bras will get signed for by the poor, overworked assistant or mail room folks.

Good point. And having to sign for 200 bras might generate negativity rather than (albeit grudging) respect for our dedication, passion and creativity.

Tiriel,
Bad Example had the excellent idea of folks sending in either pics of their bras that they were mailing, and/or pics of themselves. These would then go on a poster to be held up at the rally. It would help prove that even though there were only a few people able to make the rally, that hundreds of women sent in their bras.

I can take point on this one. Just have people email me their pics and put something in the subject line like "pic of bra" or "pic for campaign." My addy is purple@castle.net. If folks don't have a scanner and think they'll arrive in time via snail mail, they can PM or email me and I'll give them my address.

Tiriel, sorry to bother you again, but I want to make sure I know what's appropriate to say to the press if/when we're asked questions. I just want to make sure what the rules/guidelines are for savefarscape. I've dealt with the press before for our local chapter of Starfleet, but never before as a Scaper.

Thanks bunches for your time :-)

Sorry! Kinda lost track of this post for a bit! What do they say? Overworked and underpaid?!

MediaSavant: Thanks you raise a very valid point there! I've been having sleepless nights about that. First thing in the morning: On to BBC-online, check: Is it war yet? I'm worried about the Bush deadline of the 17th, but they're having a meeting on Sunday and it looks like Britain and Spain might push for a resolution to be submitted next week in which case I would assume they wouldn't start the war until the set deadlines have expired (currently they're talking about a step-wise plan over three weeks, which would leave our little action well in the clear) but yeah, in the worst case this could cut our legs off. Heh. We'll simply have to think positive and hope for the best.
I'll check with the SFS.com press-relations to see if we have contacts for the more tabloidy papers :)

Chaym: I'll update the post about emailing the pics to you! Just sent mine :)

About what to say: Have you checked out the press-kit webpage yet? It details a lot of the things the campaign has worked on. Main guideline is this: Be nice, be calm, be professional. You got that down, so nothing to worry about.
The points we have stressed all along:
1) SFC has utterly misunderstood the valuable demographics of Farscape.
2) They have misrepresented the reasons for cancelling the show:
a) Total viewer-numbers were up not down, relative numbers were down, because the number of households in which SFC is available grew faster than the number of viewers.
b) Farscape couldn't grow because it was not properly promoted. No off-channel commercials. Long haiti at random intervals. Moving of time-slot more or less randomly. etc, pp.
3) They had announced with a lot of noise that there would be a fifth season then opted out. The currently running eleven episodes are NOT a short fifth season! They are the rest of season four, which is why they end on a cliff-hanger.

But generally (and that's the hard part :D) we are trying to remain positive towards SFC. They made a little mistake, because they didn't really know the demographics (Nielsen's fault, ALL Nielsen's fault) and they'll surely understand that bringing Farscape back is the only reasonable thing to do. Or they'll understand pretty soon.

As I said: Check out the press-kit webpage and give a link to it on the flier.
IF (that's like a really big IF) I find the time, i'll try to burn a bunch of CDs with the promo-video and the commercial we made for Farscape and I'll mail them to you if you could email me your address. You could hand them out to the press should you be approached.
There might even be a CD-version of the press-kit, I'll check, if I can find it, I'll include it on the CD if there is enough space.

Phew, I hope that's it. Anyone anything to add?

Love and Peace and best of Luck!

I just wanted to share where I got my mailing materials in case there were some ladies confused as to what to get and where. I also took the stuff I bought and took it to the local post office to verify they would accept them. They said they would, but I'll get to that part in a minute! :bgb:

I went to Staples and got the Staples brand Transparent String Envelopes. They're durable plastic, transparent, come in packs of five with different colors (one is clear transparent in case you didn't want to send it in a different color, but all are transparent), legal sized and expand to one inch so there is plenty of room, and close in the back by wrapping the string around the two round disks. You will definetely want to secure it with extra clear packing tape so nothing will fall out. LOL!

Unfortunately, I don't have a scanner to show you what it looks like, but if you went to Staples and tell the salesperson that you want the Transparent String Envelopes (and specify the LEGAL sized ones because these have more room), they should know what you are talking about.

Anyway, like I mentioned, I did take these envelopes to the post office because I wanted to make sure it could get mailed without any problems. I SURE FELT SILLY, ESPECIALLY AS THE POSTAL CLERK DIDN'T SEE THE HUMOR OF THE SITUATION!! He sort of rolled his eyes  and tried to tell me HE thought that it seemed "unethical" to send a bra in a transparent package through the mail. He had the NERVE to ask me if this bra was going to be CLEAN! :eh: :eh: :eh: What the frell!!!!!

After assuring him it was going to be clean, no profanity in the package and nothing "unethical" was intended, he grudgingly took it back to his supervisor to get the final word. As long as it is properly addressed and taped in the back with clear packing tape, I WAS TOLD IT WOULD BE ACCEPTED! :aok:

Hope this helps! I'd love to know what others think!

Just email me your picture(s) to purple@castle.net. Put something like "bra picture" or "Scaper pic" in the subject line.

Sorry to post yet again, but I've got another question about the iron-on transfer paper. The instructions say, "You can make the colours last even longer by heat pressing or hand ironing your complete transfer with a sheet of baking parchment...Use the same temperatures as used in the transfer process, but only press or iron for a few seconds and allow to cool completely before removing the baking parchment."

Do they mean do this "before" you iron on the tranfer to your garment or "after"? I'm thinking afterwards, but want to be sure. I've got the parchment, so no worries there, though why it work, no clue.

Thanks :-)

Just have to share...

I found, in the bottom of my underwear drawer, a never-worn (because it creates the quad-boob effect, LOL!) emerald green velvet with rhinestone accents push-up demi bra. It's St. Patty's Day and in-your-face all at once. :) I confess I lack the mivonks (probably because I wear a bra) to mail it in a clear package, but I did print the "Farscape or Bust" Ratscape logo and pasted it to the outside of my padded envelope....

Hullo,

I just came back from the post office - I work right in Manhattan, so it made the most sense to send it today. I was debating taking the packages to Skiffy myself - it's like 10 blocks from where I work, but I'm REALLY very busy usually.

Anyhow, sent two bras - really cute and sexy, let them donate something women will feel good in. Sorry, I don't have the pics, though - I just made my envelopes, went out, bought two bras, stuffed them in, and mailed them. The postal clerk was very courteous and nice, and even knew about Farscape being cancelled. He thought it was hillarious that the president of Skiffy is a woman and she doesn't dig Farscape (ben browder's as... er, eyes! :D ). I said she lacks the mental capacity. I guess I must be one of the last ones to mail.

Anyhow, GO US!

Hopefully, with all that war going on, we'll still get noticed. Did anyone contact NY Post or anything?

Tanya.

Hi Tanya/Elfinity, want to join us on your lunch break and hand the posters to Skiffy? We'll be on the Avenue of the Americas, in front of 1211 to visit (hopefully) Matt Roush of TV Guide and then either Fox News or Skfiffy (depends on the time and when we can meet up with Amy from FN.

We'll be easy to spot - pink T-shirts, pink signs all with BraScape on them :-)

Post in the Going to NYC SF HQ thread if you think you might be able to make it.

Hey all. I was just wondering if anyone did make it up to the Today show today. Wow, that seems a bit redundant. Anyways, I hope ya'll did. And I hope Ms. Hammer is peeking at my bra right now! My bra was delivered today - at 11:52am !! Perfect, I'd say. ;0)

Much thanks to the wonderful, hardworking USPS and their tracking system. I hope LOTS of bras got there today.

My fiance and her cousin sent thier bra in... Never even met her cousin... The fiance has seen Farscape from time to time, and does love the show. The cousin has never seen it, but took our word for it and will be a new follower soon.

This was a fantastic idea.

Hi all,

My bra was supposed to be delivered Friday afternoon, so it should have arrived right on time. I was just wondering if anyone heard any word on how many were delivered and whether there is any news on what sort of impact it made?
