*the original Beyond Hope Fund FAQ

What is the purpose of the Farscape: Beyond Hope (FS:BH) Fund?

The monies donated to the Fund will be used to work for the renewal of Farscape through marketing, advertising and other yet-to-be-determined activities such as mail campaigns or rallies.

We're working with other Scapers to formulate effective strategies to best promote our joint cause, and will carefully investigate the most high-profile and cost-efficient methods to make the best use of the monies you are entrusting to us.

Is the Farscape: Beyond Hope Fund different from the Beyond Hope Project?

Yes. The FS: BH Fund is an ongoing fund-raising effort to accrue funds to support efforts to renew Farscape or find it a new network home. The Beyond Hope Project was to fund a one-time ad to show support for cast and crew.

What is the process to disburse money?

There is an approval board of three people who will sign off on all expenditures before a check may be written to cover any expenses.

One of the approvers is Red. The other two are DallasScaper and Dani Moure.
editors note: there's been a change here. as soon as i can verify the additional approvers, i'll edit this bit.

Is the FS: BH Fund a non-profit entity?

No. It would take 4-6 months for the non-profit status paperwork to cycle through the government approval process. It would take a lot of administration and reporting to maintain.

Are my contributions tax-deductible?

No. The Fund is not a non-profit entity, therefore any contributions are considered gifts and do not have tax-deductible status.

What about taxes on the Fund?

The Fund will be taxed on any profit received. In this case the profit is in the form of interest on a money market account. Any interest will be taxed as profit. If we were to collect 100K and we could earn 5% interest the profit is only 5K. The Fund would have to pay taxes on the 5K earned.

Shouldn't the FS: BH Fund be in a trust?

At this point, there is not enough money to warrant opening a trust. If we reach 20K, we¹ll revisit the trust with our attorney. At that point, we will also need to investigate investment of any monies to maximize earnings as trustees of the Fund.

Obviously, a trust makes the money management more complicated, but it is our fiduciary responsibility to the contributors to earn as much money as we can to supplement the Fund.

What happens to any extra funds when Farscape is renewed?

Any monies remaining after Farscape is renewed or moves to another network will be contributed to charity. We are looking into which charities are most popular with cast and crew. Save the Children has been mentioned as one particularly beloved by Fran Buller.

For more info on Save the Children, visit here. (http://www.savethechildren.org/)

What is PayPal and is it safe?

PayPal builds on the existing financial infrastructure of bank accounts and credit cards to create a global, real-time payment solution. It is used by many millions of individuals and businesses to allow them to accept credit card transactions without being set up as credit card merchants. It acts like a holding company for your transaction information. Monies are deposited in FDIC secured financial institutions until withdrawn by the account holders. PayPal keeps your transaction information for transaction administrative purposes, just like your bank and any merchant that accepts credit cards. We as the Fund holders do not have access to your credit card information.

PayPal is more secure than using your credit card over a cordless or mobile phone, since anyone with a police scanner can potentially hear your credit card information while you talk. Here are some links to more detailed information about PayPal and security:

http://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=p/gen/fdic-outside

http://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=p/gen/security-main-outside

https://www.paypal.com/html/press/083002InfoWorldMax.html

How do I use PayPal?

To use PayPal the first time, you must first register as an individual account holder. After that, you can use it for transactions between yourself and other individuals or businesses that don¹t accept credit cards. The caveat is that there is a transaction fee _ that's how PayPal makes its money. But it's a nominal fee and the seller (that would be the fund in this case) pays the fee. Again, all the information about PayPal is right there on the site. www.paypal.com

*and from those groovy guys at the comic "In Other News" we have....
Good afternoon folks,

Ryan here from In Other News.

The store is now open, where you can buy glossy prints of the Farscape strip we did. In addition, Lar and I also put together another strip, which is just for Scapers. That is also available for purchase, and download.

Over the next few days, we also plan on putting togethe another "farscape only" strip, which will either be about John & Wynona, or Ms. Hammer covered in Bras.

The address:
http://www.inothernews.net/store.asp

5$ from every 10$ sale will go to the Beyond Hope Fund. We're looking to raise as much as we can.

Note: The price on the website is 15$ canadian funds, which is about 10$ american.

If there is a demand for it, we will make shipping available overseas. Let me know about that.

We hope this goes well, and that you enjoy your prints.

Any questions/comments/concerns, please send me off a note at sohmer@inothernews.net

Ryan

*there's also fundraising still going on for the commercial that will be airing today during episode 422. here's LilOrion's update...

More specifically the MONEY end of the commercials.

TOTAL DONATIONS RAISED FOR THE COMMERCIALS: $3,965.60

TOTAL COST OF COMMERCIALS: $3,445.00

TOTAL COST OF TAPE DUPES: $420.00

TOTAL COST OF SHIPPING TAPES: $172.00

TOTAL EXPENDITURES:

$3,965.60 - $4,037.00 = (-)$71

Okay so we are (-)$71.00 in the hole so far...and this does not include the phone minutes and packet copies to be made.

As of now, I purchased 12,000 prepay minutes for Friday.

(Its 4.9 cents/minute when you prepay as opposed to 7.5 cents/minute).

For each 1000 minutes it is approx. $50

12,000 x $50 = $600....and we MIGHT go over that, but I wont know until Monday what our minute usage is.

If you count the price for the minutes we are a total of $671.00 in the hole.

Anyway, just wanted to give everyone a heads up as to where we stand with the funds.

Here is the donation link again:

https://www.paypal.com/xclick/business=LiLOrion%40aol.com&no_note=1&tax=0&currency_code=USD

Please note that anything left over after the minutes and package printing will be donated to the FWA.

Also, here is the link to the thread with info on when/where the commercials will air, the phone message and info packets:

No I'm not a newbie, but let me ask a different question:

There used to be a link to Farscape: Beyond Hope Fund on the front page of this site.

Now its a link to the "WatchFarscape website" Fund.

Where's the other link (is it still active)?

How are you doing on the funding of the new server? (I know you moved to it today.)

Thanks,
Akimbo

we don't physically have the space for the button, for one thing, but we'll fix that asap. the other is that the fund is in transition right this minute from handler to handler and the destination account has to be changed. also, and a thank you to everyone that donated, if it wasn't for the button change and the unbelievably rapid and generous donations, we wouldn't have been able to move to the dedicated server and would in all liklihood still be offline today. so THANK YOU DONATORS!!!

Get enough for your dedicated server? I didn't do my portion on that one, tied my capital up elsewhere :)

Edited to add: never mind. you posted the answer already in Stargate2077's question.

Thanks for spinning the plates!

:lol:lol

quite welcome. we will be putting the website support button up later, after we transition to the new site design, but we're good for right now so it's more important to put the project funding button back up.

waltersgirl: I am looking to donate but not through paypal. Is that possible? As far as I know paypal requires a credit card (please let me know if I am in error on that fact) and my refusal to own a credit card makes that an impossibility for me unfortunately. I'd love to help if we can make this happen!

Thanks for your time and assistance!! :)

p.s. I wish I had known of Farscape's cancellation earlier. Would have been here sooner.

here ya go Jason...right from paypal's home page.

Just enter the recipient's email address and the amount you wish to send. You can pay with a credit card or checking account.

Kerlin

I don't have a credit card; what you can do is link your PayPal account up to your checking account. It's pretty easy to do, just takes 3-4 days for everything to clear. And then you can transfer money over from your checking account into your PayPal account. I've never had a single problem with it so far, and I tend to be very nervous about online purchasing.

There should be instructions on how to do this right on PayPal's website.

You guys are gonna think I'm a pain in the butt for this but....

I'm not comfortable giving out my checking account info over the net. I'm sure that paypal is completely secure and trustworthy. I'm just superparanoid (not a word :) ) about it. If theres a direct address I can send a money order (my preferred method of paying) then that would be best. Sorry to be such a pain. And I appreciate your help and assistance!!

Jason, if you're comfortable with it, we've got a p.o. box set up for the website support for our original board, wdsection.com. Jul is the fund administrator of that, so you can send it to her and she'll deposit it on your behalf into the FWA fund.

if that's good with you, i'll post the p.o. box address here.

SaveFarscape.com and the Farscape Webmaster's Association present the "Where's My Riot" Fund

In the depths of Katrazi, John Crichton initiated his plan to get them all out of another potentially hopeless situation with three words "Where's My Riot?" Faced with the cancellation of Farscape, we're asking you, the fans of Farscape, the same thing.

The "Where's My Riot?" Fund, the heir of the Farscape: Beyond Hope Fund (http://www.watchfarscape.com/news/article.php?newsid=295) , has been created with this purpose in mind: the support of fan projects that market, advertise, and promote Farscape and SaveFarscape.com through activities such as commercials, advertisements, tabling at conventions, mail campaigns or rallies. The fund is handled by SaveFarscape.com and expenditures of the fund are approved by the Farscape Webmaster's Association based on the tenets of the revised SaveFarscape.com Marketing Plan. Spreadsheets from the fund will be posted to continually inform SaveFarscape.com members and donors about the fund's current activities and any questions about the fund should be directed to Jul, the handler of the fund at jul@watchfarscape.com.

Here are the basics of the fund:

What is the purpose of the Where’s My Riot Fund?

The monies donated to the Fund will be used to support projects that market, advertise, and promote Farscape and SaveFarscape.com through activities such as commercials, advertisements, tabling at conventions, mail campaigns or rallies.

Is the "Where’s My Riot" Fund different from the Farscape: Beyond Hope Fund?

Yes and No. This fund is part an ongoing fund-raising effort to accrue funds to support efforts to renew Farscape or find it a new network home. For the most part, the goals of the funds are the same and the FWA must approve any disbursements made. It is different because the handler of the funds has changed due to Deneba’s wish to take a step back from the campaign due to real life circumstances. Jul is now the handler of this FWA-associated fund and left over funds from the Farscape:Beyond Hope fund are being transferred to this new fund.

What is the process to disburse money?

There is an approval board of three people who will sign off on all expenditures before a check may be written to cover any expenses.

One of the approvers is Red. Other stampers include Brit Angie, JMax, Dallascaper, jeffrabb, jadeshand, and Dani Moure.

Is the "Where’s My Riot" Fund a non-profit entity?

No. It would take 4-6 months for the non-profit status paperwork to cycle through the government approval process.

Are my contributions tax-deductible?

No. The Fund is not a non-profit entity, therefore any contributions are considered gifts and do not have tax-deductible status.

I just donated $10. I wish I could donate more, 'cause this show is was the best thing on television, but I'm totally broke at the moment.

I hope Farscape comes back. It was just really coming into it's own and there was so much more room to develop more.

an expansion of fundraising.....

The Savefarscape.com Special Projects Fund

The Military project and the Library project have opened up some interesting and problematic issues for us.

In order to make best use of the funds you, the fans, are willing to entrust to us, we've been discussing what our best options are and we have decided to open up a special projects fund. The fund will only be open for specific projects and it will allow you to more easily donate funds directly to large projects.

The Special Projects Fund (SPF) is not meant to replace the FWA's Where's My Riot (WMR) fund, the SPF is meant to supplement the WMR fund and allow you more flexibility with your donations towards specific large projects. The WMR fund is a broad, general fund, that allows fans to donate towards the specific goal of promoting Farscape – the WMR fund is tremendously flexible in the types of projects it can help support and, as a valuable resource, it allows for a continual collection of funds that are held in a general account and can be used for any number of future projects that may come up. The SPF fund is a limited time fund that is used to help direct and gather funds for very specific large projects that need an immediate and substantial amount of up front cash.

The fund is modeled after both the original Beyond Hope fund and the emergency fund we opened when we needed to make the move to a dedicated server. The projects supported by the fund will be determined by the Savefarscape.com team, the Savefarscape.com/FWA marketing plan, and will, for now, be limited to large projects that require a good deal of cash up front. Each project will have a specific goal and once the goal is reached the fund will close for that project. All expenditures will be approved by a majority vote of the fund oversight team consisting of the following three members of the Savefarscape.com staff – buggaboo, Dominar of Action, and Jadeshand. An itemized accounting open to the public will be made for each project.

It opens now for the Military project and the Library project. When donating to the SPF please specify which project you are supporting. If you have any questions, please contact our fund manager, Jul at jul@watchfarscape.com.

Thank you very much.

Red
