Well, for those of you who don't have either the time or patience to compose letters to either advertisers or prospective networks, try one of these form letters below. Just copy and paste, fill in the blanks, sign, print and send. Remember the demographic info IS important, so don't omit that info.
FORM LETTER FOR PROSPECTIVE NETWORKS:
Dear Sir (or Madam, as the case may be),
As an avid viewer of Farscape, a television show most recently aired on the SciFi Channel, I have heard that your company is possibly interested in acquiring this show. I wish to commend you on your consideration of such an excellent show to enhance your programming. As suggested by the enclosed online demographic survey, Farscape viewers are highly educated and have the discretionary purchasing power advertisers seek. We are also very discerning in our television viewing habits and are extremely loyal to the shows we choose to watch.
It is an unfortunate fact that the SciFi Channel has inexplicably chosen to renege on its promise to viewers of a fifth season of Farscape. Many of us will no longer have any reason to tune into the Sci Fi Channel or most other networks as their remaining programming is generally of no interest to us. However, if Farscape were to move to another network, its loyal audience would most definitely follow.
In closing, I thank you again for your consideration of Farscape. As one of its many devoted viewers, I hope this outstanding series will continue in the future.
Sincerely,

Thanks muchly for the form letters. I volunteered my husband to do ours since I was busy with the regular monthly greeting cards and today's cards with Ricky's comment to be sent out to the local media along with other RL stuff. The husband was able to personalize the advertiser letter and then personalize it even more with little comments such as, "When we traveled to West Virginia for my wife's family reunion she ate at Long John Silvers 5 times within 3 days. She eagerly hopes that you will be coming to New Jersey soon so she can get her fix a little closer to home." So, dual purpose - Farscape and getting me my Long John Silvers! :joy: <Frell, now I'm craving it! I can smell the delicous fried fish and hush puppies... >.:bawl:

Vote for Farscape on Entertainment Weekly!!!!
Everyone Vote Please...
Just a couple more days for you folks to be heard on this.
Come on everyone, how often does somebody ASK us what show we wan't? Especially a magazine that is specifically geared towards entertainment.
From my understanding this needs to be done by March 31st. It doesn't even cost you a stamp, just a few moments of your time.
This is FREE exposure here. We only have a couple more days to"wow" 'em.
Please if you haven't yet participated in this vote, DO SO NOW.....Help keep this ball in play for the remainder of the game, we may not ever have another opportunity for this kind of free media attention...

Feel free to use this as a guide (or not) ;) Rearrange the demographics however you think it's most effective. I tend to stick it in first, so they know who's talkin' to them. The names and addresses for the UPN execs are below.
Dear (UPN Exec),
My name is ___________________ and I am a ___ year old __________________. I earn between $______ and ______ per year and have __ college degree(s) in __________.
I watch quite a bit of television and, during my channel surfing, I find myself turning to UPN just to see what’s on. I have found that UPN is a great network on which I can find a variety of highly entertaining shows, so it’s often my first choice.
The one thing that would cement my viewer loyalty to any network is the programming. Recently, the SciFi Channel canceled the most entertaining, daring, and moving series I ever had the privilege to watch; Farscape.
I’m hoping that, by writing you, I can help influence you to consider picking up this unique series, also guaranteeing my loyalty to UPN forever. Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Voyager, Enterprise, Roswell, and The (new) Twilight Zone are the proof that UPN values good science fiction and Farscape is the best that genre has to offer. Know that my friends and I will follow Farscape to any network, and I’d personally like to see it on yours.
Sincerely,
(you)

I know we have largely left out Fox for many reasons, but I recently found one reason to include them in our begging. :D The format of the letter is pretty much the same as the UPN letter, but it's obviously directed to Fox executives. Excuse the shmoozing... it's necessary.
Oh, yeah. If you see any problems with these letters, just let me know. If it's something minor, you can simply correct it yourself in the letter you copy. Remember to write the one you send by hand. It'll mean more. Have fun. :rollin:
Dear (Fox Exec),
My name is ______________. I’m a ___ year old _____________________ and hold _________________ college degree(s) in _____________________. I earn between $_________ and _________ per year.
I’m writing you today with a valuable opportunity I don’t want you to miss. The Sci Fi Channel has cancelled Farscape. What does this mean for Fox?
I’ve recently learned that FoxTel in Australia has taken over as the network financial partner in the production of Farscape from season four onward. This presents the American Fox network with a unique opportunity in global entertainment. If Fox were to take over as the main production partner (along with Hallmark Entertainment and the Jim Henson Company) in creating new episodes of Farscape, Fox would gain not only the most dramatic and moving science fiction series on television, but also the millions of Farscape viewers that exist worldwide. The opportunity for both Farscape and Fox is amazing.
Presenting Farscape as a Fox production around the world would garner both huge audiences as well as huge revenues. Existing Farscape fans have already spent millions of dollars on merchandise as well as the current “Save Farscape” movement, proving that they are willing to back up their series in more ways than one. Farscape’s audience is fiercely loyal, and a major network like Fox could only make it grow. The only thing Farscape needs to gain an audience in the tens of millions is exposure. A small cable channel like SciFi can’t hope to do this. Farscape could very well be the new X-Files for Fox.
As a long time fan of both Farscape and Fox, I’m asking that you consider picking up this one-of-a-kind series. You won’t regret the decision. Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
(you)

pkgirl - WOW!! GREAT LETTER!!! ((((applause))))
Now to get off my eema, finish mailing out my monthly cards and make up some new ones.
AvengerCO--asked by whom? I thought there was a discussion about the wisdom of separating the anti Scare Tactics stuff from the pro Farscape --and the upshot was that Scare Tactics belongs OT. Posting that letter here just mixes them together -- Seems like it should be posted in OT, not on this board.

Sorry, blue, just saw the letter you're talking about.
Yeah. This thread should be for letters in support of Farscape only.
If you want to write more letters, write some to casting agents in LA on behalf of Virginia. :D
I hope that the ST letter above by AvengerCO will be moved to an OT thread by its poster or by a mod. It really shouldn't be on this Campaign Strategy board. It is not part of campaign strategy, and shouldn't appear to be, or it may damage perceptions of this campaign.

"Avengerco- your letter is an excellent idea. If you could post a general version of this on the form letters thread, ("Busy? Hate Writing Letters? Easy Form Letters Here..."), perhaps others would also be inspired to express their outrage over this."
This individual has four times as many posts as myself and I considered her advice as valid and wiser than my own counsel.
It was significantly after my posts were made that the thread in question was moved to the off topic section of this board.
My apologies if she overstepped her powers of direction.

This thread was specifically created as a place to acquire various form letters. As a general place to post basic form letters for whatever purpose related to either Farscape or Skiffy...This is not to say that first priority is not, (directly), the Farscape topic, (it is), however the purpose for creating a thread specifically for form letters was to make them ALL easily accessible in ONE PLACE, so folks would not have to sift through various threads to find them. As long as letters are in good taste and related directly to Farscape (or indirectly, as in the case of Avengerco's letter which relates to Skiffy's overall programing, and thus, indirectly, to decisions which influenced Farscapes cancellation), I can see no harm in posting them in the same location. If there are those that feel this is a conflict of interest, they are more than welcome to use only letters they feel appropriate. I AM in full support of this site's policy regarding refusal to boycott Skiffy due to Farscape's cancellation, however, if people find "Scare Tactics" offensive, should they be silenced in this regard? As long as there is no direct correlation to Farscape in letters opposing Scare Tactics, I do not particularly see any conflict with the no boycotting on behalf of Farscape policy. Lets not over-complicate things or quibble over subject matter and whether or not it is closely enough associated. If a letter is not on an issue you wish to pursue, THEN DON'T USE IT. If any Mods feel there is a direct conflict of interest with any letters posted, I am sure they will let us know. Again the theme of this thread is Form Letters, period.

Again, the point of creating this thread was to provide a centralized location for people to obtain form letters. . If a letter is not considered inappropriate on this site in general, then why should it be excluded from this thread? Obviously, you have the authority to do so, but I point out that this defeats the purpose for which this thread was created. Furthermore this discourages people from posting their letters when they have to worry about being critisized for their contributions, which further disempowers the purpose of this thread.
waltersgirl
04-15-2003, 11:15 PM
this forum specifically, and this board at large, is about saving Farscape, not cancelling Scare Tactics or other shows that Skiffy is showing in lieu of Farscape. if folks want to make form letters for writing to advertisers about Scare Tactics, then those would belong in the OT forum, which was where the Scare Tactics thread was moved.
