Hey, just got my first response to a to-do list letter. It's from FedEx, dated March 20. I wanted to put it in a new thread, because of how they responded.

Here's what the letter says:

Dear (name):
Thank you for your letter to FedEx. We appreciate your taking the time to write to us and for your comments concerning Farscape.

As you mentioned, the show has been cancelled but Sci-Fi will run the reruns of the shows through the 2003 season. FedEx will continue to advertise in selected episodes.

It is unfortunate that this critically acclaimed show has been cancelled. We have made the Sci-Fi channel aware that we have received a number of letters from disappointed viewers, but unfortunately FedEx is not at liberty to influence the decisions of cable networks.

Thank you again for your interest.

Sincerely,
(signature)
Carole Millsaps
Manager, Advertising

It really was great to read that third paragraph-- they've noticed the letters, and they *have* contacted Sci-Fi about it! Think I'll send Ms. Millsaps a short note (or maybe a card) thanking FedEx for their help.

It makes me wonder how many other advertisers are also contacting Sci-Fi, mentioning all the letters they're getting.

I got the same letter but am more than a tad irked given that my letter was about Scare Tactics and mentioned Farscape only in passing.

Yeah, it made me pretty bouncy this morning, too! I hope other advertisers are counting the letters and telling Skiffy about them.

I think I'm going to send a thank you card to Ms. Millsaps, to let her know how much we appreciate FedEx taking the time to do this for us.

This is great. It isn't just another form letter, even though it does seem to have done double-duty for LC's Scare Tactics letter.

I got the same response, too. I was pleased with it - it's definitely more than a generic thank-you-for-the-lovely-letter-you-sent-us.

It may be a "form letter", but it's a form letter they created for
us!

When you write advertisers, PLEASE ask them to contact
Viacom, expressing their interest to advertise on Farscape
wherever it winds up. I don't think skiffy's gonna renew
Farscpape no matter what. Viacom (UPN, Showtime, new
channel, etc.) is "Our Last Best Hope".

I've received similar responses from advertisers in the past, particularly KFC and Kia come to mind.

you know, it might not be a bad idea to do some "the official __ of the Save Farscape campaign"...and start with KFC and FedEx.

thoughts?

I *like* this idea. You get ANY big company on board and others are bound to follow.

now for the hard part: Getting one of them to be first.

I *really* love the idea!

To take it one step further, we put a link on the savefarscape page for a list of all the 'official' ________s for the campaign, explaining what it's all about. Or even create free 'banners' for the official advertisers of some sort...

Then we tell the advertisers we're doing that for them in our letters- free advertising for them to the online community- all for just a little bit of action on their part to support our efforts.

In the advertiser contact threads (we're we've already decided to select 3 - 4 advertisers from each week's re-run to focus letter-writing), we can feed any new candidates for official ______s. We can also add a line into the form letters and the thread that has suggestions for letter writing so that we make sure that advertisers know that they are getting airplay....

wg - NICE. Love, love, love that thought. We already FedEx stuff all over the country anyway, so they're practically our official mail people ;).

Can you see it now? FedEx commercial: "The official shipping business of the Save Farscape campaign."

Like B Sharp's idea of linking something to the main webpage, as well. Maybe we could contact the companies and offer them free banner space on a specially created webpage here on savefarscape.com? As a "thank you" and "this is what we can do for you" kind of thing.

Gosh, I've still got lots of FedEx receipts...they have plenty of scaper money.

FedEx: When scapers need it there fast!

Love the idea too!

"Ship Fed Ex, because there is no postal service in the Uncharted Territories."

"John Crichton isn't the only one who's mastered wormholes. Fed Ex. when you absolutely positively have to get it across the galaxy in a solar day."
