Viacom Close To Sci-Fi Channel Purchase

A source close to the talks between Viacom and Vivendi has revealed to SyFy Portal that Viacom could be just "days away" from finalizing its deal to pick up the Sci-Fi Channel, among other properties.
"They have made an agreement in principle," the source said. "They just have to dot the I's and cross the T's."
Word about a possible Viacom takoever of both USA Network and Sci-Fi Channel first broke out just before March 12 (original story) after Vivendi reported massive losses in the midst of a corporate restructuring.
Just a few years ago, Viacom had announced plans to launch a science-fiction cable channel of its own to counter the one owned and operated by Vivendi. However, that cable channel never got off the ground.
Please note that the information above has not been confirmed by either Viacom or Vivendi, and should be treated as any rumor would.
