Does anyone want my Word document with all the advertisers contacts listed by episode? It is a big document, 64 pages long. And because it is organized by episode, there is a LOT of repetitive information. But it is a searchable document for all the repeat advertisers we are expecting.

I was hoping by this date to get another document prepared with all the repetitive stuff edited out, a sort of master advertisers list. But I am less then half way through the editing, so I thought I would offer anybody who might want it my big old unedited document. Sorry, I cannot offer the convenience of downloading like Kerlin. I'll have to email this baby to you. So if you want it, pm me with your email addy and it is yours through the wonders of modern technology!

btw, I saw an earlier commercial for Scare Tactics when i was programming my vcr - Scare Tactics sponsored by Prestone.

Perhaps we should drop a line to Burger King and Prestone and tell them we are horrified that they would have their name associated with such a show.

Good idea. I was planning to anyway. I know someone had posted that we shouldn't when I'd suggested the idea of writing a letter to the advertisers that support ST, but it's something both my husband and I feel strongly about. We just cannot suppport a company that would advertise on such an inhumane show. We understand that these companies may have no clue what Scare Tactics is actually about and our letters will be polite and give a description of the show and how we, as consumers, cannot bring ourselves to buy a product that associates itself with that show. Other folks have done this sort of thing for other companies. Wal-Mart has pulled movies from their shelves when they got negative customer feedback. As long as our letters are polite, and we send thank you follow-up letters when/if they do pull their commericals from ST, then we've done nothing wrong, nor put the campaign in a bad light.

Is everyone positive that it was "Scare Tactics sponsored by Burger King" Rather than "Scare Tactics" "Sponsored by Burger King" meaning the show now coming on (Farscape) is sponsored by Burger King? Burger King then advertises within the show, as sponsors do. Is it possible that the announcer was just reading fast? Just checking.

It was the way Burger King was visually arranged in the Scare Tactics ad that gave me that impression.

On another topic, Kerlin has volunteered to host my giant advertiser document. Soon anyone who wants a copy of this file can download it from Kerlin, just like Kerlin's own Excel file.

Blue, the commerical I saw was for Scare Tactics and at the end, they had this big white "box" with the Burger King logo in it and the voice over said, "Scare Tactics - sponsered by Burger King." I haven't seen it since last night, so I may be a little off in the quoting. But I sure remember the white box w/logo and there was no other impression but that ST was indeed sponsored by BK.

CosmicTheorist, forgive me for a stupid question, but are we all supposed to be doing our own spreadsheets supplied by Kerlin and keep them until they're requested to be compilied? Sorry if I didn't get it the first time. I'm well aquainted with Excel and have no problem with it, just didn't want to be doing unneccessary data entry if I didn't have too.

2nd stupid question - should we also be targeting our own local advertisers? Not sure if it would really work except in the more organized local groups.

Kerlin provided the spreadsheet because back a few weeks we had a question from a Scaper about whether or not such a spreadsheet existed. It didn't at that time. I do not know about these things, but such spreadsheets are reputed to make it REALLY easy to automate preparing letters for all the contacts. This Scaper didn't want to leave any of the advertisers out of her letter writing campaign. Kerlin has just made this type of valuable tool available for everyone.

My understanding is that later in the week we will be picking a small number of the advertisers for these reruns and suggesting them as part of all new to-do lists. So far our jobs are to collect the lists, find the national ads and, when and where possible, post the contact information that is available, a lot of which already exists in my giant Word document. The nice thing about the advertisers on Farscape is that the majority are repeaters and their contact info has already been collected and posted. Check out my first post; most of that stuff I just copied out of my 64 page Word document.

Easy does it. Or don't sweat the small stuff.

Chaym, CT's right, no specific "you ought to do this" in this sort of thing. Organized anarchy ;).

The original intent in the spreadsheet was to simply have all the information in an Excel spreadsheet, which is a very quick and easy way of organizing information. You can sort alphabetically by company, by showing, by airdate, by state the companies are in, and on and on. It will also give us some hard numbers about who advertised when, how frequently, etc. and will hopefully help pinpoint some advertising trends. Someday maybe I will get around to creating a Microsoft Access database for all this information, which provides even more fun and geeky ways to play with the information.

What I was hoping to ask people to do with the Excel sheet I posted was to simply fill in the blanks and then send the file to me - PM me for my email - labeled with the episode name and date : hence, Premiere33103. That way all of this spreadsheeting could be done collectively instead of me spending my entire weekends catching up with inputting the information :).

And while I'm posting, you can download the Word document that CT has put together here :Farscape Advertisers Document (http://community.middlebury.edu/~agustin/FarscapeAdvertisersContacts.doc)

And once again, while this is not necessary it would make my life easier, here's the Excel spreadsheet. Just fill in the blanks ;).

I'll see if I can figure out how to get all the stuff I posted above into your spreadsheet after I get home from work. If I do, you'll get it back filled out. I am making NO promises, however.

Chaym-Re your second question--I would say, no, don't bother with local advertisers--they are paying the local carrier-cable or dish or whatever, not SciFi, for the ad space, and they would not be companies we would ask to contact SciFi or any other network on behalf of Farscape. They have no business connection to SciFi.

CT and Kerlin,

First, I did sign up for this, so for me, there were "rules and supposed to's" to follow so everything could be nice and organized and I got y'all what you needed :)

Second, I'll fill out my Excel file and send it to you Kerlin. And I know Access too. Not how to set it up (I tried to learn on my own, but never had enough time) but do know how to enter stuff into and pull various bits of info in different ways from it. And I'm more than used to keeping databases in Excel. <I used to have nightmare's about what I was expected to be able to do with Excel at this one job  >

Thanks for the feedback. :)

I'm all set to tape for tonight as well. I know I was put down for "Sundays and Wednesdays" but am just going ahead and taping them all. Gee, it's such a struggle to get me to watch Farscape lol! :flee:
