I know we have lots of newbies....seems like a long time since this question was answered. Come on new peeps....give us a clue! :D

UTChick
02-03-2004, 02:37 PM
Changed mine a little anyway,(Utnewbie to UTChick), I figure it's pretty self-explanatory - Unchartered Territories - female out there. I'm not always of this world anyway, so - I think it's reasonably appropriate.

Palin
02-03-2004, 03:42 PM
I love Monty Python and, as you've probably now guessed Michael Palin is my favourite Python. I also love his various tv programmes with him travelling across the world. :D

This thread definitely needs a new :bump:

chasa
06-02-2004, 09:52 PM
Mine is a shortened version of my original online nickname, chasarumba. And it has nothing to do with any fandom. I was a competitive Latin (aka ballroom) dancer for almost a decade, and it's an amalgamation of three of the five dances that were in my category -- cha cha, samba and rumba (the other two being paso doble and jive). I haven't danced in a few years, but the nick sticks all the same :)

faustus

Sponge
06-03-2004, 01:53 AM
Mine's short for 'Bullet Sponge', gained while at a LAN party with a few mates.

We were playing co-op Ghost Recon, and were on a mission that involved taking out some artillery. I ran up one particular hill at least eight times, and got shot by the same sniper each time, no matter what I did. Thus - 'Bullet Sponge' or just Sponge.

At least it's better than one mate, who got stuck with 'Kharn the Betrayer' for shooting his own men...

eta_carinae
10-21-2004, 09:21 PM
I don't think I ever posted in here.... my nick is my favorite star - Eta Carinae. I picked it from an astronomy book when I was first picking a handle way back in the day. It is one of the brightest stars in the sky, and is know for unpredictable "violent" outbursts :D

Owlman
10-22-2004, 10:12 AM
Owlman:

Funny story.

When I was 8 or so, I came up with a Batman like character, called, Owlman. Over the years, the character changed from a superhero to a normal soldier, to a special forces soldier, to an alien special forces soldier, whose callsign is Owlman. Since it was the first character I created, I started using it for my board name back at Scifi.com.

I did a yahoo search trying to find my fics, and I discovered that Owlman is a comic book character! I had no idea.

Oh, and above my avatar: "The Sensei of Owlitude" is a play on Wrestler Matt Hardy, who is the Sensei of Mattitude.

I really don't remember how anymore, but it might of had something to do with glo-in-the-dark-plastics.

gill_za
10-22-2004, 01:32 PM
Well... I used to play Counter strike a lot with friends in internet clubs and my CS nickname was gill_za which is derived from gil'za which means "Bullet Case" in russian.

Jim Reaper
10-22-2004, 01:38 PM
I needed a nickname for when we played Quake on the college network back in '97. Grim Reaper was a touch unoriginal so I went with Jim Reaper, and have used it ever since.

Spedoinkel
10-22-2004, 02:37 PM

Craistine
10-26-2004, 01:56 PM
For many years I use the name "Christine" whenever I don´t want to divulge my real name. There was no particular reason to chose this name, it was just the first which crossed my mind.
For my nick I wanted a reference to Farscape and since Crais is my favorite character (as you may have noticed...), I thought Craistine is a perfect combination of both names.

Defect9
10-26-2004, 07:42 PM
Nickname thread? I figure I'm the most obvious one when it comes to what my nick means. Its my band. there. easy. I'm named after a band i really like, that i produce for, and that i'm the only memeber of. As far as what it means really, I have no idea. It sounded cool. Used to be Manic Opression, when i was less talented, and there was a project i used the band for, and i just sorta named the band after that project, and Its been shortened to "the Defect 9 Project". At one point, the name was Manic Opression's "the Defect 9 Project", but i figured that was getting out of hand. Now its just me. I still go by Manic sometimes, but you can call me Jared. or J. its easier that way.

I terribly miss someone (that frequents this board) with the first initial H.

I always see it and think that someone thinks I am Mrs. H.
:)

DRD 1812
12-22-2004, 12:00 PM
Well, this one is self-explanatory. I love 1812. I even have the Overture as my ringtone. But my usual name is zhuuka. I was at a party one evening and drunk off my mind. My friend asked what the tall, glass thing was. I intended to say "It's a hooka." buuuuut it came out "A zhuuka!" It stuck. My real names Kate. ;]. Zhuuka is my AIM, and other MB names.

Another nickname of mine is Fox. Someone started calling me the foxy lady in the net. So, as a goalie? Im Fox.

matt_boy
12-22-2004, 12:07 PM
I act kind of corny when under the influence of love. So my friends said anyway, like a little boy, and so they started calling me mattboy.

Gaussian
12-22-2004, 12:19 PM
My maiden name is ''Gauss". In my sig you will see that it means "unit of magnetic flux density." (It's in the dictionary!) There is a "degausser" on televisions.

I really believe that John Crichton.......scientist that he is, would know all about "gausses".

ScaperTeen
12-22-2004, 12:22 PM
i think mine is pretty obvious....."Scaper" because i am a scaper and a "teen" because i'm 17. really, really, self explanitory.....

Also one that you use for "clearing" video tapes at TV stations and the like.

Malachi le nomade is the French version of nomad Malachi (suggested to me by a friend of mine in France).

nomad is because I move around a lot (though have lived here for 7 years  )
Malachi is the name of a rather psychotic character I used to play in D&D (name taken from the character in Children Of The Corn)

Actual name is Brian :aok:

The system wouldn't allow me to use spaces and using the dashes didn't occur to me :headbang:

I kept reading it as Malachi Lemonade. I knew that wasn't it, but that's how I kept seeing it. I kept thinking that it must have something to do with Asimov's Foundation series. If I'd only applied my French...

'Malachi the Nomad.' Neat!

My real name is Scott. Snoogans is from "Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back".

cybergal
08-25-2005, 07:00 PM
Mine comes from a really old email server. .cybergal .cyberguy Anyway, I was trying to come up with a handle for another email and everything I tried a the time was taken, so I tried cybergal and it was taken. I was tired so I added a number on the end and it was history after that. I was able to use cybergal at the DOM, so after that anytime I visited a new board that I might return to, I'd sign in as cybergal. So far it's worked pretty well....

Not very exciting, huh? At least it matched up pretty good with the avatar that I'm using here. It's pic from an old vinyl album that I love called Paradise Ballroom by The Adrian Gurvitz Band featuring Graeme Edge (w/Ginger Baker on the drums). The album rocks and the cover art is fabulous. That the one thing I miss about vinyl. The large size cover art.

Maire
08-25-2005, 07:53 PM
I'm glad to see this thread about IDs revived because I find it so fascinating to see how much thought has gone into creating most members' ID names. This is definitely a creative bunch!

My ID comes from one of my fav singers, Maire Brennan from Clannad. I chose her name to be my ID because it can be pronounced 2 ways. Pronounced in Gaelic it sounds like "Moya". But if you didn't know that, you might pronounce it like "Mare" which would suit me too since i have horses.

Lilith
08-28-2005, 09:20 AM
My name is the name of the woman that is believed to be Adam's original wife (before Eve) in the Book of Genesis. She was cast out of Eden because she refused to submit to Adam, and I picked it because I thought it was a strong name.

fiona-maria
08-29-2005, 12:43 PM
Fiona Maria - my name. Fiona is a Scots name, means "the fair one," as in "fair of face." Might have been true once, but I don't think so any more...*smile* My pic is in the scaperjirl/boy calendar, but I don't remember what month I ended up in....

Col.Batguano
08-29-2005, 08:02 PM
Mine is a Character from the Movie "Dr. Strangelove “or” How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0057012/) , Col. Batguano was played by Keenan Wynn.
He was a very minor Character bent on rules and protocol and the only seen he was in was with Peter Sellers as Group Captain Lionel Mandrake, Captain Mandrake is desperately trying to make a phone call that could stop World War 3 - and Col. Batguano was giving him a ration of dren about a bunch of unimportant crap to the situation,
to me the seen was a pretty good some up to John Crichton's situation, and I saw a lot of references in Farscape to the movie and was expecting it in the mini (and was not disappointed).
all Farscape fans should see that Movie, and then rewatch Farscape - Especially the Peace Keeper Wars.

There's a better story behind the name Green Emerald, my fanfic character...

Fyodor
09-14-2005, 03:31 AM
Fyodor is a character from Elaine Cunningham bookseries "Starlight and Shadows"

I chose it because Fyodor is very much like me... if all my characteristics were put on overdrive...
