View Full Version : Update on Operation Bunny Rabbit!
Dominar of Action

Here comes Peter Cottontail, hoppin' down to UPN! Hippity hoppity ... :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
So, here's the deal. After much debate and snafus (whodathunk that Easter Bunny costumes were next to impossible to find in NYC!?), and a bit of Scaper luck (StarsGoBlue calls the LA singing telegram place because their website is down and ends up talking with a Scaper, Shelly, who is helping us out mightily!), it looks like we're almost set for Operation Bunny Rabbit! :D
For those of you who haven't had a chance to follow the thread, we're going to be extending our peculiar brand of Scaper love to UPN and Viacom by sending Dawn Tarnofsky-Ostroff (UPN) and Mel Karmazin (Viacom) a singing telegram next Wednesday, 4/16. Both singers will be singing a StarsGoBlue "original" to the tune of "Here Comes Peter Cottontail."
In LA, the singer will be decked out in full bunny rabbit regalia and accompanied by an Easter basket of popcorn/chocolate goodies (here (http://www.1800flowers.com/product.asp?sc=1002&body%5Fsc=1002&cc=1002&pcode=31374&placed%5Fprice=2995&country%5Fcode=0&APOFPO=)) and a balloon bouquet. If scheduling permits, Tiriel is planning on hooking up with the Bunny before and after the deed is done to get some video.
LA projected costs:
$70 for telegram/balloon bouquet/copy of lyrics
$58 for Easter basket
------
$128
Also, if we can afford it, Showtime is just down the block and the singer is willing to swing by there as well for a discounted price. We could perhaps also sweet talk Shelly into picking up a FS DVD and sticking it in the basket for us.
As for NY and Viacom, unfortunately (or perhaps somewhat ironically since we're talking Farscape and no plan ever goes smoothly on Farscape :) ), Preppygrams--the people who did such a wonderful job on the Valentine's telegram to Tom Vitale-- could not locate a bunny suit that wouldn't run us almost $200 in rental fees  We did talk to another telegram delivery service that had a bunny suit, but that guy was not very cooperative and lacked a lot of the spunk that Preppygrams seems to have (which spunk is required in order to get through security :lol ) . So, in true Farscape fashion, we're gonna turn lemons into lemonade by having the Preppygrams singer wear an alien costume ... with bunny ears and bunny tail! :rollin: We will also provide an Easter basket, and Preppygrams includes the balloons and copy of the telegram. Cost will be $20-30 more than for LA.
To date, people have donated $130 (yay!), which will cover the UPN telegram in LA. If we want to do NYC and/or Showtime, it will depend on how much we have in the kitty by the end of the weekend. If anyone wants to participate, please PM me for the Paypal information.
So, that's about it. Thoughts? Concerns? Jokes? Riddles?

Anyway, congrats and much thanks to Stars, DoA and the assorted personnel involved.

What are the final lyrics?
Dominar of Action
04-11-2003, 08:12 PM
Hey, atlantagirl! I was just thinking earlier today that I hadn't seen you post in awhile :)
I think Stars is still polishing the lyrics, but this is what's she's gotten so far:
For Viacom
Farscape is "the coolest show"
TV Guide says so, you know!
But our series ended far too soon....
The Sci-Fi Channel says it's done
But Farscape fans aren't gonna run
We won't let our series end this way!
"To be continued" makes us pray
That Viacom will save the day...
To your new sci-fi channel we'd be true!
Loyal viewers we would be
If more Farscape we could see
Viacom, we're all rooting for you...
Viacom, we love our show
And we wanted you to know
Give us more Farscape and we'll love you too!
and
For UPN (some minor changes but essentially the same song)
Farscape is "the coolest show"
TV Guide says so, you know!
But our series ended far too soon....
The Sci-Fi Channel says it's done
But Farscape fans aren't gonna run
We won't let our series end this way!
"To be continued" makes us pray
That UPN will save the day...
Then loyal viewers we would always be.
Will you help us, UPN?
Will you take our program in?
Farscape has adventures still to come....
UPN, we love our show
And we wanted you to know
Give us more Farscape and we'll love you too!

Thoughts? Concerns? Jokes? Riddles?
Thoughts? Don't have any, some say never had
Jokes? Not a comedian
Riddles? See Thoughts?
But how about quotes?
Would gladly donate to the cause, if I actually knew where to go, what to do. Personally glad I don't have to dress in the bunny suit! Compared to the delivery person, shelling out a little cash is the easy way out. Again, will gladly help, want all the baskets delivered.
Just trying to remember some good Rygel quotes.
"Repent? We have less than an ahn. I was a Dominar, it will take me longer than that to repent." Dominar Rygel XVI
"Hey, I don't even permit my wife to do that." Buckwheat XVI deleted scene
"You're not fahrbot, you're magra fahrbot!" Sparky
"Where are you from? Every religion has an ancient text." Guido
"I like my wives pregnant and my ships cold to the touch, that way my feet stay warm and my sleep is uninterrupted." Fluffy

You guys are awesome! New total - $285!! So, we've got UPN and Viacom covered!! :aok:
Do we dare try for Showtime ($108, incl. basket) and/or add a DVD or 2 to the UPN basket (assuming we can get our LA contact person to pick them up for us)? If we collect more than we end up using, I suggest that the extra go to the BH fund to help with the library project (and another great project that I understand will be announced shortly :) ).

I haven't heard back from Shelly yet, but I hope it'll be possible to meet up with the bunny :) Sadly that arrival of my camera was a false alarm :( The package that arrived turned out to be the lighting kit... so now I'm hoping for Monday, which would still be in time, but leave me very little opportunity to familiarize myself with the new hardware... but then I'm never one to pass up an adventure :D
In the worst case the camera won't arrive until Wednesday afternoon, in which case I will use the Hi8 camera I have here (same optical system, but analog, not digital).
Just to keep y'all in the loop :)

Pardon my ignorance of these sorts of matters, but are these professional delivery singers that are doing this or fans? Because if it is the latter, I think it would be hilarious to dress them up like Harvey in the bunny costume.
Dominar of Action
04-12-2003, 06:03 PM
LOL, yeah we thought of that but these are professional delivery singers. And you wouldn't believe how hard (not to mention expensive) it is to find a bunny suit to rent. In NYC, it was close to $200 for a 2-day rental!

Update Time!!! I am absolutely flabbergasted by the generosity of Scapers! We've received ... ::drum roll please:: ...
$435!!!
:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
This will be more than enough to cover the UPN and Viacom telegrams. Our LA telegram people had offered to throw in Showtime as well for a discounted price, so if StarsGoBlue can arrange that with them, we'll be adding them onto the list
But that still leaves a bit left over and several people have PM'd me to make contributions, so I am throwing out the idea/possibility of adding DVDs to the Easter baskets to each place. HOWEVER, given our tight timeframe, Stars will need to ask the LA and NY telegram people to pick them up for us, and I don't know if they're going to be willing to do it. (Hey, Tiriel ... if the LA people can't do it, could we ask you to pick up a couple and take them along if you're going to be meeting up with the LA Bunny? And are there any NY Scapers out there willing to do the same for NYC? )
So, bottom line ... we've got enough in contributions to pay for what we set out to do (Bunny, Easter basket, balloons, copy of the lyrics), but if anyone wants to help add DVDs to the baskets, please PM me for paypal information.
Any extra money collected and not used for the Easter bunnies will be turned over to the FWA/BH fund -- they've got a couple of great (IMO) projects in the works that have the potential to reach thousands of new viewers! :D
That is all... I now return you to your regularly scheduled forum browsing...

With apologies in advance to StarsGoBlue et all, with no intention to intrude, and while I know that simplicity is favored, a little "B" section lyric seemed required. There's something to be said for emphasizing tawdry commerce and profitability when you're facing bottom line people.
So, to the "B" section tune of "Here Comes Harvey Cottontail" ("There'll be jellybeans for Tommy, Colored eggs for sister Sue, An orchid for your Mommy, And an Easter bonnet, too"), may I offer the following?
Farscape's audience dem-oh-GRA-phics
Will make TONS of bucks for you . . .
Men and women? in EQUAL NUMBERS!!!
Ranging 12 - to 92!!!
<< And then, one might take a quick theatrical break and speak the following in the style of a zany 20th century Viennese scientist (or his lab rabbit): >>
"Of course, profitability would be greatly enhanced by giving Farscape a steady and predictable timeslot and by applying a modicum of promotional stimulus.
"Whoh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh, yeah!"
And then back to the "A" section material.
However, given all the fine verses Stars has penned, perhaps the "B" section bears repeating to the fine folks at UPN and ShowTime, so they know there are profits to be had with 'Scape.
If this is unclear, I'll have an mp3 sample up on my website a little later tonight (Sunday, U.S. Pacific time zone).
Please be assured that I intend no disrespect of Stars' or DoA's work with this offering. Having been in the entertainment biz most of my adult life, I simply feel strongly that we must address the profitability of the creation and airing of Season 5.

Re: lyrics
Hey, no fluff off my paws...the lyrics are actually a *compilation* of some off-the-top-of-the-head stuff, and suggestions from interested parties.
If we could finalize lyrics *soon*, though, I really need to fax them tomorrow (Monday)!
Re: baskets/DVDs/other stuff
It's been a little crazy trying to keep up with all this, with phone tag and lyrics and food choices...don't get me wrong, I'm STAGGERED by the fact that people have donated over $400!!!
But it's just that 1) Shelly is already doing us a huge favor by accepting the basket(s) at *her own house*, so I really don't feel comfortable asking her to run around trying to find a DVD and 2) maybe things are different in LA, but I haven't been able to find any FS Best of Season 1 *in stock* at the Best Buys up here in N. Calif---they always have to be ordered. And time *is* the one thing we're lacking....
***UNLESS*** Tiriel or Gurnemanz could round one up, and give it to the bunny when you meet her on Wednesday at UPN?
But.....
I'm almost convinced that it might be better to keep the singing telegram and goody basket separate from the DVD....maybe send the DVD and some popcorn in a few weeks, as a follow up? 'Cause it could be argued that the singing telegram is a follow-up to the ice-cream project....so the popcorn/DVD could be a follow-up to THAT.
I'm just thinking why do everything at once and make ourselves nuts, when we could space it out some and keep our presence more continuous.....does that make sense?
I mean, if everyone really wants me to I'll ask Shelly & Kerry, but I don't have a really good feeling about it (kinda above-and-beyond, IMO)....

UPDATE ON THE UPDATE, lol..... :D
The Dominar and I have been chatting (I apologize for keeping you up so late!) about the DVD idea.
What I shared with her was another idea I had been mulling before the Return of the Singing Telegrams got started, that I think might work well with the DVDs.
There's an awesome shop here in town that makes gourmet, custom iced cookies. They make special baskets for birthdays, weddings, babies...you get the idea. But they do custom theme baskets too (they made the cutest gardening tools and garden bugs cookies for our school secretary, in a little painted flower pot, it was adorable!!).
I had been pondering taking some FS pix (like the neat-o ones Ratscape did for the wanted posters) and having them create some baskets of Farscape cookies. (They ship overnight so everything arrives fresh.)
So, if we ordered the DVDs/VHS whatever of Best of Season One with the $$ donated for that purpose, when they arrived I could take them in and have them added to the cookie baskets, no problem, with a card or something signed courtesy of Save Farscape.
That way the campaign is visible again in a few weeks, we know the execs will have a chance to see *why* we're so nuts about Farscape, the $$ people donated for DVDs is used for that purpose, and we don't run the risk of tricky shipping deadlines or overtaxing the goodwill of Kerry and Shelly.....
So.....any opinions/suggestions/objections to this modified plan? Operation Bunny Rabbit is less than three days away.....
******Stars :)
Feeling less chicken-y at the moment...whew!

UPDATE TO THE UPDATE ON THE UPDATE
$517!!!
FWIW, I think the DVDs would work even BETTER with Stars' idea than including them in the BunnyGrams. :D
However, I know some of you may have contributed specifically for the DVDs to be included with the Easter baskets, so I don't want to pull a bait and switch. If those of you who fit into that category feel strongly that you would like us to carry forward with that plan, please feel free to speak up! Alternatively, if you could let us know if it's OK with you to carry over the DVD donations to Stars' next project, it would make me feel better :)

OK, this is really hilarious :D What is the one thing you can always count on living in Los Angeles in SoCal? Exactly! Pollution! Err, sunshine! Now guess what! It looks like it might be raining on Wednesday! LOL! That's just too funny! I guess it's been raining here at least four or five times this year (maybe as often as seven, I might have missed a few while being asleep or using the restrooms :D) So what are the bloody odds!
So I guess, all we can do is keep our fingers crossed... besides getting a very wet bunny rabbit hopping up to UPN and SHO (there is no public parking right at the building) we'd also be out of luck with respect to any video coverage, as we'd have to do that outside and I don't have an all-weather cover for the camera (what a surprise living in LA as I do!)
LOL! What did John say: "It's just life giving you exactly what you want and screwing you in the fine-print!" :D
Well, I got all my fingers crossed!

:headbang: ... but wait! Actually, this could be good ... who wouldn't sympathize with a poor, wet, bedraggled bunny carrying a soggy Easter basket? :) I have faith that all will work out in the same freaky, karmic way this campaign has gone from Day 1. :D
:bounce:
As one of the contributors, I think the DVDs later is a very good idea. I might suggest, if there is time, that ordering them from Deep Discount DVD instead of Best Buy might be cheaper--but only if it is convenient for participants, and if there is plenty of time, in case a "rattling box" has to be exchanged--mail sometimes bounces those disks out of their containers.
I like G's idea about the money angle. I wonder if the rhythm of the original might be better as: (compare to original)
"There'll be jellybeans for Tommy, Colored eggs for sister Sue, An orchid for your Mommy, And an Easter bonnet, too"
Farscape's viewer dem-oh-GRA-phics
Will make TONS of bucks for you . . .

Before I get into a synopsis of the worst chicken-with-my-head-cut-off day I've had in recent memory... :eh:
Just for the record, there *was* a report last time, too. I should know, cuz I posted it. :)
Okay. Now on to why I've got bald patches on my head, and a really impressive ulcer-in-training.
1. Was nervous about making Kerry at Preppygrams responsible for putting together a goody basket for us...after some consultation with our dear Dominar, the perfect website seemed to miraculously appear. A gourmet dessert company located right in Manhattan, with a nice selection of assorted yummies for $58.
Cool, I thought. We could order the gift basket and the singer could pick it up on the way to delivering the telegram.
Should'a known better.
I call them this morning to place the order and am told (rather pityingly), so sorry, but we ain't doin' no stinkin' gift baskets until after Passover. What are you, nuts?
Okay, so he didn't REALLY say that. But close enough. So now we have no food. The stomach starts roiling.
2. I come in to print copies of the lyrics to fax to Kerry and Shelly. Having pondered G-man's suggestion, I'm struck with inspiration in the car. So here are the lyrics to all THREE telegrams...cuz I realized (sinking feeling in stomach now WELL underway) that UPN's lyrics weren't really what we wanted to be singing to Showtime.....a frantic few minutes and some chewed fingernails, but I survived it.

Then I had to run out with my basset and two cats for shots at the vet's, which killed a good hour and a half while I was pondering how in the heck I was gonna be able to get a basket to Viacom by Wednesday morning.
Another 15 minutes gone while I picked dog and cat fur off my shirt with some packing tape....I really wasn't fit to be seen in public.
3. Worried searching on the internet for a company that could get a decent (ie, NOT TACKY) gourmet gift basket (remembering all the while that this isn't going to Bonnie, but the CHAIRMAN OF VIACOM...eek!) to Viacom without charging us a ridiculous rate.
Came up with a possibility, angeldelights.com, only to see that their hours are until 4:00 EST (and it's already after that). And also that stuff has to be ordered by 9 am EST to be shipped the next day (which means I'd have to be on the phone at 6 am tomorrow, and I am NOT a morning person).
But while I was calling Kerry & Shelly to make sure faxes and payment info had arrived safely, I called Angel Delights anyway thinking maybe they had an answering machine.
This is where things finally started to go right. :D
A very lovely woman named Sherise said no problem getting a basket to Viacom Wednesday morning, so we ordered "The Gentleman."
Here's a link, if it works: http://www.angeldelights.com/products/GN792.html
And a pretty decent price, too.
So, to wrap up. Shelly at Zebra Entertainment in LA has arranged for a bunny-suited singer to deliver two singing telegrams complete with balloons and gift baskets (ordered by the Dominar) to UPN and Showtime.
Tiriel & friends are going to try to get video & pix of the singing bunny at UPN.
Kerry at Preppygrams in NYC has arranged for a alien-suited singer with bunny ears to deliver a singing telegram to Viacom. The gift basket will arrive the same morning from Angel Delights.
No camera/pix available from Preppygrams (they used to, but their cameras kept getting taken/broken), but if some Scapers want to hang around Viacom HQ (1515 Broadway) around mid-morning, it'll be hard to miss the large grey alien walking down the street.
!!!!-----> Kerry was also more concerned about getting into Viacom, because of who they are it will be harder than Sci-Fi was. I am a bit worried about that too...I know we wanted it to be a surprise, but I would be a whole lot happier if our resident phone goddess (that's YOU, Twich) could call and give a heads-up that we've got a surprise delivery planned, and could they do their best to make sure it gets through....What do you guys think?
God. I think that's it. I *hope* that's it, cause I'm wiped. After this I'm gonna need a vacation from my vacation.
$$$$$$ stuff.
Preppygrams telegram: $107.50
Zebra Entertainment telegrams: $140.00
Angel Delights gift basket: $58.00

If your credit card is screaming but you ignore it, does it really make a sound? :D LOL
Oh, and to clarify. Somewhere I saw written that Zebra was going to be $70, but I don't think I said that....the total was $90 because Shelly gave us the discount, and then offered to make the extra booking for $50...if I was unclear or confused anybody I apologize. It's been a bit hectic. :(
Well. Everything *should* be arranged. I'm going hiking tomorrow and will be away all day, but I'll check back in Wednesday.

Well, we tried and tried, but a-o-hell is refusing to let us upload our little audio file of the "B" section.
So; if you want to hear a *very* bare, plain muttering of the "B" subject melody with biz lyrics (along with a bit of a goofery), e-mail me and I'll send you the 2-meg file.

Sorry not to make this more conveniently available, but nothing seems to work today in foggy smoggy rainy LA!
BTW - Fabulous work, all you contributors!! Fabulous!! Ole' Jim Henson is surely smiling, somewhere up a wormhole . . .

I really really wish I could help y'all take pictures in NYC, but we just seriously *can not* afford the train fair right now from central, NJ...and I don't have a digitial camera which would mean getting getting 1 hour developing or even next day (or however quick you'd need it.)
I would  to be there, take pictures, and get a report. But I can't...unless someone has a job lead... :(

Great job all! And Stars, I hope you are using some of the money in the fund for all the long distance calls you're having to make.

Well, at first I was thinking, well, FRELL, I can't take off work at all - and I work so close! And then I thought, oh, DUH, I've got a friend who works for legal dept at Viacom, maybe I can butter him up to take some shots?
so people cross yer fingers, I'll let you know if he says yes.

OK, the good news first: Just heard back from Kelly and filming is good for go with respect to the performer.
Now the bad news: I was jumped by a random deadline for tomorrow evening :( So depending on whether I manage to get enough work done through tonight I will or will not be able to take the morning off tomorrow... Gawd, I hate when that happens, but there's precious little I can do. I usually have a lot of freedom with respect to how i organize my time, but in return I am expected to show some flexibility if it is necessary...
Well, I'll just put in second gear then ;)
(Kinda wondering why our plans always have to end up like one of John Crichton's plans!)

We could try cloning you :bounce: but the clone would probably just turn out to be a dim replica of the real thing :bounce: and nowhere near as truly wonderful as you :bounce: (the genuine article) are! :spin:

Hey there....I'm back. :)
Had a lovely day yesterday (38 different bird species, oodles of jackrabbits, three deer, and a phalanx of pheasants---including a female pheasant, which I had never seen before).
But I guess that means I'll be paying for it today.....
Dominar, did you hear from Kerry? :(
Still keepin' fingers crossed,
