Question about the difference in Farscape DVDs...

Hi guys,

I want to buy the Farscape DVDs, but I wanted to know before I decided what to buy... is there any difference (as in features and extras) to the Season 1 Boxset and the separate 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, etc DVDs? Thanks for any help!

I think you will just save some money if you buy the Season Box Set...
I brought all of season 1 seperatly (1.1, 1.2 etc) and I then realised after I had brought them all seperatly I could of saved around £25... but thats in the UK, I am not sure about U.S pricing!

I bought them as they came out because I wasn't patient enough to wait for the boxed set. I doubt that the boxed set is missing any of the features that the individual volumes have, but I'm not certain. I'm pretty sure I paid a hell of a lot more for them than I could have.

The season 1 boxed set at Amazon.com goes for $104.99

I bought the 11 volumes for around $18-20 each. So I paid about $198 total. Aw, crap.

Question Season 1 box set

I thought the box set of Season 1 had extra things that the double dvd's didn't such as commentaries on them.

Maybe someone that has the complete set of Season one can answer this?

I can't speak for the individual releases, but I do have both ADV Box Sets.

The Season 1 Box Set has commentaries on most episodes. No cut scenes however. There are focuses on the various actors in the show as well, with interviews, that were quite nice. Wish there were deleted scenes available.

The Season 2 Box Set has fewer commentaries and deleted scenes (in a seperate menu) on some episodes. It does NOT offer the option of watching Dream a Little Dream as originally intended for Re-Union. Wish the deleted scenes could be seen in continuity with the aired episode. There are fewer commentaries.

All in all, I'm disappointed with the extras on both sets.

Hi, thought I'd add on to this thread to see if there's any more info floating around out there, or maybe another thread/site someone could point me to.

I'm in mad, new Farscape love. It's bad. So, now it isn't enough to Netflix the show. I must own, and I must own it ALL. All my Farscape must belong to me...yesterday I just bought the S1 and S2 box sets (Region 1 releases) and am waiting impatiently on a slow-mo eBay seller for them to arrive. But I was talking on AIM last night with a bud and long-time Scaper who left me feeling alarmed about differences between the region releases and what features I might miss on the Region 1 sets. I do have a multi-region player, so if needed I *can* buy the Region 2 releases -- I would in some respects prefer to buy R1 because I'm a vidder and like having all NTSC footage...but I've been known before to buy *both* R1 and R2 releases (yes, insane, truly).

So, if anyone knows where I might find a direct feature comparison, that would be so very appreciated. I was reading about the S3/R1 sets at Amazon and someone mentioned that the "Farscape Undressed" feature wasn't on the R1 set. Disturbing if that's the case...I neeeeeed that.

Region 2 Season 1 Boxset
Region 2 Season 2 Boxset

There are no "deleted scenes" for Season 1, 'cause the episodes are 48 minutes long.

The uk region 1 box set has more material on it than the individually released smaller sets (they added in the US commentaries etc.)

The Us box sets though I beleive have no extra material to their respective individual sets.

If you check out www.Farscapeworld.com Dani has alot of info about the dvd's and also has reps from both ADV and contender posting on his forums.

You're right, Angie. Many US Scapers said here at FMD or at Kansas that Boxsets released by ADV Films are EXACTLY the same as invidual sets.

I used to own the individual volumes for season 1 (region 1) but I ended up selling those in favor of a season 1 boxed set (big mistake but I won't discuss that here). The extras are EXACTLY the same. The only differences between the two are (for season 1):

- The discs in the individual volumes are MUCH easier to get out of their cases.
- The boxed set takes up about a third of the space.

As for season 2, the only difference is that the boxed set comes with a box. ADV just packaged the individual volumes and put them together in one set.

They do the same thing with their anime releases except you usually get the box with the first volume and you build your own boxed set.

eh?

O.K. to summerise....
I bought Season 1 box set from Amazon last month (reduced to £35, bargain) it's in a paper type box and I'm quite happy with it actually (so there!) reallly like the commentaries although they peter off in the middle. I've now bought season 2 as 5 box sets (plastic covers) off e-bay, not many extras so far. Amazon have the paper type set which I believe came out after the other. So on an extras level is it worth me selling the plastic ones to get the paper ones? (an extra £10) or would I just be doing this to get the matching set. I'm a virgo, I like sets (SETS!!)

Hi tempest! The UK whole season box sets have added extras that weren't available to Contender when the original smaller sets were released. So I'd recommend buying them to get more goodies if you like that sort of thing. For what it's worth I have both individual ones and when the S2 set comes down in price will get that to go with my s1 set too! In my view you can never have too much Farscape..
