Post More cable companies need to carry the Scifi channel

I was considering what would be the biggest hurdle against increasing the fan base of Farscape.

I noticed that not all of the cable companies offer the Scifi channel in my area, which is Marin county, northern part of the San Francisco bay area.

When I tell someone about Farscape, they haven't seen it partly because their cable company doesn't carry the channel. Or in some areas, their local cable company offers the Scifi channel on their most expensive optional package, so it's more rarely an option for their viewers to be able to watch Farscape at all.

So the only way I have of getting new viewers hooked on Farscape is to sit them down and show them some episodes myself. Or invite them to take a 45 min drive each way to watch Farscape with me and my buddies on a sattellite TV hookup.

Has this issue been addressed before here? Is that true for some other areas? Any ideas what we might be able to do about that?

I'd be happy to put some energy in this direction if I could get some suggestions about approaching my local cable companies. If I could get an idea of the companies' concerns and have some convincing things to say to them...

Unless you're inviting friends over for intermittent sleepovers - midweek, Sunday nights, etc. - the DVD rout is probably the best. SciFi aka 'Skiffy' currently has little love for real genre fans, much less Farscape fans, so it's probably not worth you expending any effort on their part, since they abandoned you more than 18 months ago. I'd suggest that you just buy the DVDs as they come out (both 'home copies' and 'loaners'?), and loan them around.

In the time that I've been here, Skiffy has proved over-and-over again, that they just aren't interested in the patronage of Farscape fans - Why reward them, if they're getting the audience that they *really* want, with 'Mad, Mad House' and 'Tripping the Rift'?

Buy the DVDs. Better yet, buy a multi-region DVD player, and get the DVDs from the UK. All 4 seasons are available from Contender(UK) and you'll get the added dividend of making yourself available to all sorts of stuff that hasn't been released Stateside.

Yup, I do the sleepover thing...pretty regularly.

For sure, money talks! I'm sure that this info about where to buy the other seasons in the UK is elsewhere...so I'll go looking...now that I know it exists. Thanks!

Got the DVD for the US, but have been looking at other episodes that were taped off the TV, since I thought that they aren't available.

There's gotta be one of my friends who already has this sort of DVD player... Would be awfully nice to see all the episodes on hi-quality with the commercials gone.
