RAELEE - Dreamwatch transcript, SS rambles SPOILERS
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Okey dokes.... here we go!!! SPOILERS for Sik's image and sliiiight plot spoilers (re Sik). Um... with some ramblings too, sorry, but ya gotta, dontcha? Raelee Hill never expected Farscape to win a new lease of life following its shock cancellation at the end of its fourth season. "I can't believe it's come back," admits Hill, who reprises her role as the arrogant *(look, these ain't my words, folks.... misunderstood, right? )* and super-intelligent *(good, that's better)* Kalish warrior Sikozu Svala Shanti Sugaysi Shanu in Farscape's mini-series revival, The Peacekeeper Wars. "I've never, ever heard of a show that has come back due to popular support. It's amazing. I always did think that it should come back. Farscape could go on for another 10 years. It's that sort of show. When the show was axed, I thought, 'That's not fair! There's so much more to tell. You can travel with this for years." *(Go Raelee! Go Raelee!!)* Farscape; The Peacekeeper Wars, picks up exactly where the show left off. Although Sikozu is still allied to the *(lordy, journo's, eh?)* dangerous half-Sebacean, half - Scarran Peacekeeper leader, Scorpius, and remains intent on destroying the Scarrans, she has visibly changed since her last appearance in season four's closing episode 'Bad Timing'. "It's not a new Sikozu *(thank the lawd)* because she's still fundamentally the same character, but she's got a completely new look." explains Hill. "It's the most drastic change to the show, in terms of look. When we went into pre-production, I was in the make-up chair for the week preceeding filming, just to construct a new physicality for the character. "When we see her in the mini series, she's spent an amount of time with Scorpius, and he's branded her as his own. When you see it, you'll know what I mean by 'branding' " , she reveals. *(eep... I knew it!!! Hate to say I told ya so.... OMG... eep, big time)* "She's still got all of her same tricks. Her race can walk on walls, she can emit this fabulous radiation that makes Scarrans very vulnerable *(burn 'em!! buuuuuurn 'em!!!! HAHAHA)* ,and still got this incredible mind. But physically, to look at her, she's a whole new character." Sikozu's new look not only reflects her close association wqith Scorpius, but is far more comfortable on Hill *(presumably, not on 'a' hill, because that is just silly)* than the characters previous outfits. "The first costume I had, the leather jacket, was a shell. It stood up by itself. It had absolutely no flexibility in it whatsoever!" she recalls. "All that stuff on wires *(you...you mean it's not *real* )* where I'm walking on a wall required me to use my body in a particular way. It was fine to rehearse the moves in a tracksuit and trainers - I could jump all over he place. But when I got into the costume and tried to do what I did in the rehearsals, it was impossible! I just couldn't budge in it. So it evolved into this skimpy little top by the end of the series. I could work in that a little bit more. "But this time round, her costume is a lot more pliable" she notes. "It is better, compared to he first time around." That said, working in Sikozu's new costume wasn't exactly easy. "It only took three days in the chair before I thought 'Oh that's right, this show really hurts you!" she admits with a chuckle. *(((((((((RAELEE)))))))))))* "The costumes look amazing. Terry Ryan, our designer, is a genius. They come up a treat on air. But actually working in them is another matter!" Prior to the start of shooting on Farscape The Peacekeeper Wars, the mini-series' cast participated in a joint reading of the script. "We had a working script for about a week, and we did a read through, which was the first time ever we sat in a room and actually read the thing through," notes Hill. 'It was a kind of rehearsal. When we finished the read through, we looked at each other and said 'You know what? This is all going to change anyway.' And it did. I can't tell you how much! *(Go on...gowan, gowan, gowan!)* New amendments speeches and motivations all came out." Throughout the making of the mini series, Hill's role in the Peacelkeeper Wars *(lordy, that's the last time I'm typing that in full!)* remained primarily action-orientated. But there was one notable exception. "There is a scene towards the end of the mini series between myself and Scorpius, where we have quite a bit of relationship discussion" she reveals *(S/SS SHIPPERS TAKE NOTE!! I see it now... 'look Scorp, Tuesday is *your* day to take out the rubbish!!!)* "I hope that scene stays in. I know the second episode of the mini series is running over time, so it might hit the cutting room floor - which would be a great shame, because then there's absolutely no explanation for Sikozu and her actions." **(SSG MEMBERS.... MISSION ONE.... SAVE THE SCENE!!!!! )** A young Australian actress whose credits include Neighbours and Water Rats, Hill originally joined Farscape at the start of its fourth season, when she was intreoduced as an intelligent but *(aaarrrggghhh... misunderstood, right?)* untrustworthy ally for John Crichton and the rest of the Moya crew. Sikozu's true motives and nature were revealed over the course of the season, but Hill's portrayal of the character wasn't made any easier by the fact that she wasn't given any advanced knowledge of script developments. "The storylines always came so thick and fast on Farscape, and just when you'd think you had a handle on who your character was, suddenly a script would be written that would turn it all on its ear." she recalls. "It makes the show nice and fresh, but it makes it hard to portray the long projection of your character over the story arc. "I came from a drama background, and all I've ever done is television where you get your character, and you can start moulding her from day one. But on Farscape, things just happened. I found that sort of pace hard to deal with, and it frustrated the hell out of me. Sometimes I'd recieve a script, and when you're really unsure to begin with, you end up with a really ambiguous performance. I hate that! I'd rather have a bit more grounds for conviction." *(We wuv ya, Raelee!!! You did a daaaaaaaahhhhmn fine job!)* Ideally Hill would have liked to have known her character was destined to be exposed as a super powered robot *(sigh....BIOLOID... repeat after me 'bioloid'...)* whose mission is to destroy the Scarrans long before it was demonstrated in season four's penultimate episode We're So Screwed part three La Bomba. "You could have had subtext leading up to that big reveal," she explains. "When suddenly, these super powers are revealed, I didn't know they were coming!" Fortunately, Hill's frustrations with her lack of inside knowledge about Sikozu didn't stop her from thoroughly enjoying her time on Farscape, or undermine her admiration for the shows writers. 'They're a pretty extraordinary group of people, and their minds literally really do work that fast. Tothem, it was just evolution in their own heads." Fittingly, Sikozu's last moment in Farscape's fourth season was shrouded in mystery. When she made her last appearance in the shows final episode, fands were left wondering if she was playing a very weird sadomasachistic game with Scorpius, or if he was simply killing her *(pffth)*. "It was very ambiguous" admits Hill. "We wanted to leave it open." Following Sikozu's return appearance in TPW, the door has been left open for further Farscape adventures. And Raelee Hill is certainly open to the prospect of returning. *(HOOOOOORRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY)* *(SSG - MISSION TWO - S/SS SPIN OFF!)* *(no, I don't think I'm aiming just a teeeeeny bit high )* "I guess all the actors on the show are saying that they'd love to go back for the cast and crew, because we had such a hoot" she notes. 'But it would be so great to see a script before filming - and t o know what you're getting yourself into!" *phew*

Great article! Thanks for transcribing, ScorpSik!
That's probably my favorite interview. We all love Ben's comedy during his, but he doesn't get as down and dirty as Raelee. Like so.. Quote:
That's the kinda crap I like to read about. The behind-the-scenes happenings. Everyone elses seem to be more distant. Raelee rocks! And a Scorpius (and Sikozu) spin-off would be the dren!

Great interview, but I could have done without the commentary.

Alright, I know some people don't appreciate the rambles.
*note to self - don't allow yourself to get excited, Em. Juuuust because there's been the first ruddy interview in over a year, is no reaon to be joyous.* Sorry. It's just not very often that there is any Raelee/Sikozu news. I'll shut up. Grinner, why not copy it + delete the 8 or so comments out?

Whoa! That's ungrateful. Scorpsik didn't have to transcribe anything for us. I think we should thank her for doing this not criticize her. Geez! Skim past the comments, if you don't like them. |
