GI Joe, Meet Aeryn Sun - the SaveFarscape.com Military Project

SaveFarscape.com, with the help of ADV and McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey, is embarking on its newest project to help expand the reach of Farscape.

Through the help of the squadrons deployed from McGuire Air Force Base, copies of Farscape that are donated by the fans of Farscape through SaveFarscape.com are going to be integrated into the loaning libraries of our foreign bases around the world. That way, our troops can get acquainted with Aeryn, Chiana, John, D'Argo, Rygel, Pilot, and the rest of the crew of Moya during their free time.

How can you get involved?

The new FWA-associated SaveFarscape.com Projects Fund, the Where's My Riot Fund, is taking donations at this time. We're going to be petitioning the fund as soon as we get a final tally of everything we need to help us purchase the DVD sets from ADV to donate to each squadron at McGuire Air Force Base. It's our plan to buy all available sets [season 1 - season 3] for donation to our troops. Also, as an added bonus, we'd like to make sure the donations of the DVDs include copies of the Illustrated Companions, to help give new fans an intimate view of Farscape. The fund needs your contributions to help make projects like this happen

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact Jul at jul@watchfarscape.com.

And can I get a huge HELL YEAH! for our own Twich, who came up with the idea and helped tremendously in organizing it through her military contacts!

P.S. Hey, donors to the Bunny Fund? Y'all remember that "big project" I hinted at? This is it

Oh, and another thing ... this has HUGE potential to reach thousands upon thousands of people, peoples A new, captive audience, so to speak, for Farscape. And as we know, once a person is exposed to the Farscape contagion, there is no cure.

Our only limitation is the number of DVDs we can pull together! So let's all help spread the word!

Are people going to be able to donate DVDs directly, or is everything going to be purchased through ADV? And are they giving us a price break?

Hey...glad you asked.

Jul has been in contact with ADV about a price break for the project. She has yet to hear anything back from them. We are also talking about adding the companion books as a bonus. Not sure if anyone has been in contact with them about a price break, but I'm sure we can at least try and see what they say.

As for direct donations of DVD's, we had talked about a PO Box for the purpose. We wanted to see what happened with donations first..and sort of go from there. See what folks thought of the idea for the project, etc..before putting that out there as an option. I think Jul has the information on the PO Box if that's a direction we decide to go.

This does have the potential of reaching thousands of people. The sets will be donated to all of the squadrons at McGuire with a note attached saying they are to be designated for overseas. When a squadron gets deployed, they will then take the sets with them and install them in the libraries at those bases. We have pilots and squadrons leaving McGuire all the time to go to bases all over the world. The potential is staggering. The more sets we can get together, the more squadrons that we can reach out to as well..beyond just McGuire's squadrons. (We just needed to start here to eliminate a lot of the red tape. The guy we're working with is a casual 'Scaper and doing his best to rid us of normal hassles involved with this stuff.)

Something else to mention is that McGuire is basically "hooked" to Fort Dix here as well. Though they are two separate installations, they are one large entity. Some of the sets will be going to squadrons that work on Fort Dix. So the sets will get there as well. People are moving in and out of these bases all of the time. The potential viewers is mind boggling. Especially since we will have copies installed in the base library. If things go well, and we get many donations, I can contact the squadrons at Fort Dix as well and see if we want to get copies to all of them.

The idea has limitless potential really. The more we collect, the more people get reached...so there's really no stopping point on it.

I'm very excited about this project. The MWR (Morale, Welfare and Recreation) department told me when I called that they had just purchased personal DVD players to go overseas as well. So when someone has spare time on their hands and wants something to do, they can go to the MWR tent, sign out a player and a DVD or set and take it back to their own tent. It's very cool.

I'm very excited about the potential of this project.

If anyone has any other questions, feel free to email me as well. I'm handling the military side of things and Jul is handling the money end. So ask away!

Very cool, guys! I know I would have given an arm and a leg to have been able to watch Farscape when I was stuck in the military hospital for a month straight (as in couldn't even step outside for 5 minutes.) Hell, the only thing that kept me going all that time was knowing I'd be able to watch it when I got home.

Peachy idea! How do we designate our Where's My Riot Fund donations specifically for this project?
